I love Joe! ❤ I’m sure no one will see this, but I’ll throw it out there anyway: My family has owned our home since it was built in 1952, when my mom was 5 mo. old. My grandparents knew all the neighbors. Bc it was a new neighborhood, they’d all moved in together. They socialized together & took care of each other. If someone was sick, in the hospital, lost a loved one, etc - the entire neighborhood would take food & help with anything they needed. My mom & her siblings grew up with all the kids in the neighborhood. Then my siblings, cousins & I did the same, with the next generation - the grandkids. Due to some problems at the home I lived in, Gram & Papa’s was my safe place, where I knew I was loved - & the love extended thru the neighborhood. Myself & 2 cousins lived with them for some years of our childhood. Gram had raised 4 kids, but she said we were like her 5th, 6th & 7th. My amazingly strong mom was finally able to leave a bad marriage when I was 13 & we moved into a home down the street- so I basically still lived at Gram & Papa’s. Gram & all the ladies played games & did church things together. They had daily morning walks- starting at one end of the neighborhood & picking up more ladies as they’d move along. One was a stylist & had a little salon in her basement- reminded me of Steel Magnolias, they’d all get their hair done for the week (lol) & get their (good-natured) “gossip” in. One day when I was in junior high, Papa picked up my backpack & felt the weight of my textbooks. After that, he drove me to school. On the way, we stopped to pick up one of the other grandpas. Every day, Papa would say, “Hullo, Dad!” as he climbed into the truck. I finally asked Gram what they did after dropping me off. She whispered, as if it was a secret & somewhat disgraceful, “They go get coffee!” Those “Greatest Generation” neighbors were all grandparents to me. We grandkids roamed the neighborhood, back when it was still the norm to play outdoors all day & just come home when the street lights went on. They’d always greet us, give us treats, allowed us to climb their trees & play with their pets. We had many slumber parties at each other’s homes or in the summer, backyards- so I feel like I grew up at their homes, too. Some took me boating & taught me to waterski as a young teen. They all watched out for us. When I got into trouble as an older teen & landed in drug rehab (a few times, but I finally got sober) one “grandpa” wrote a letter every week to support me. I still have the letters! During those years I got pregnant at age 18- instead of judging, the ladies gave me a beautiful baby shower. Their kindness dressed my baby in darling outfits & blankets, many handmade with love, & I didn’t have to buy diapers for a year! More than that - they “showered” me with love & acceptance at a time when I needed it. We lost Gram way too early, but we got to keep my Papa till age 90. He continued to mow lawns & shovel snow for the widows in the neighborhood for many years, till he no longer could. I’m lucky to live in the home with my son now. We still have a few of the original grandparents- we visit & share garden vegetables & stories from our lives. It’s been sad to lose them as they go. We just lost a grandpa across the street, who my son had grown close to. He still goes over to talk to the man’s dog & reminds Feather that his dad is waiting for him in heaven. I’ll always be grateful for these neighbors & for being blessed to grow up in this place, in this era. Their level of kindness & commitment to others is something you just don’t see much anymore. We humans need a community of love. People like Joe have no idea what an impact they have on others! This sweet family, dogs & Joe touched so many hearts, inc. mine! “Love thy neighbor as thyself.” We are ALL neighbors across this big, beautiful planet!

With a police officer and two awesome dogs living on one side, and another dog living on the other side, I think it's safe to say that Joe and his wife will always be safe guarded as they should be. What a treasure of a neighbor.
We should all be so lucky to have a neighbor like Joe 🥰
What a sweet man! You're blessed to have such a wonderful neighbor.
Thank you for your service to the community. God bless you, Joe and your pups!
What a lovely story !! This is the kind of man my Dad was, from the "greatest generation" . He & his neighbors made the neighborhood happier and closer. Neighborhoods should be that way. 🐶 Your dogs are goofy because of YOU ! They are happy, well cared for, loved and enjoy their life. Thank You for telling us. And thank You for your service on behalf of others. Be well & kiss the doggos for me !! 💖

Kent and Lex, you are both so adorable, with so much personality and joy! I’m glad that neighbor Joe gets to share his Iove with you both too 🐶🐶🐾❤️🐼
Aw! This made me cry. What a nice story about the neighbor Mr. Joe and the dogs. :)
A perfect example of why dogs are a million times better than cats. Dogs can read your emotions and show genuine compassion and understanding.
Joe reminds me of my grandfather. He never met a stranger. You are blessed with him as your neighbor and your fur babies.

@@HVS-gk7oo I love long floppy ears. They are much cuter and it doesn’t hurt the dog. Unless it’s a health reason u shouldn’t crop them. I don’t care how the people that run the pet contest. If everyone would stop doing it they would have to judge all them just the same. Things change all the time. Why can’t they start with NOT cropping dogs ears ??? I know I like them better floppy.

I was thinking the same thing! Adjust it so he can come and sit down with the pups and hang out. With a neighbor like that I wouldn't mind finding him in the yard with my pups, lmao! You can tell he clearly loves them and that its mutual. We (us and the neighbor) were considering adding a gate to connect our neighbor's backyard to ours (it's our back fence so we can't just walk next door but would have to go around the whole big block) so we can go in and love up on her golden retriever. We are really close with her and she encourages the neighbors to feel free to love her dog anytime they want. We were going to adjust the fence but she is now considering moving cause family stuff.
Sounds like such a genuinely nice guy and a wonderful neighbor.
I am so sorry for your loss of SUGAR. I know without a doubt SHE was LOVED and CHERISHED. Your pups are so fantastic and deeply LOVED. THANK BOTH OF YOU FOR SUCH BIG HEARTS. THANK YOU ✝️

Reminds me of my dogs when they were pups. They would chew on each others faces all the time and end up smelling like each other’s mouths. They are 11 and 13 now. All they do is sleep. Not much play anymore, but they still love to cuddle.
They're both so cute - especially Kent. He has such a goofy, loveable face. Love your dogs!

Try and BE that person instead of lamenting the lack of people like that. Start caring for your neighbors and family, showing kindness. Offer to snow blow elder neighbors' sidewalks come winter and make an effort to socialize with your neighbors as well. Too many people ignore their neighbors existance when they could be great friends. Thankfully I'm pretty tight with most of my neighbors and the kindness goes both ways, it's not one sided with always us caring for them. Most of the families with dogs on my block are all friends with each other and set up doggy play dates so as the people hang out the dogs get to goof off.
I would love to see more about Joe too!! What a wonderful man! Great story, thank you for being a police officer, please, please be careful!!!
Your very lucky to have such a good hearted person living next to you. Years ago a farmer up here starved 76 cattle to death. Not a good hearted man
