Woman Builds £1000 Tiny Earthen Home To Live Close To Nature In Welsh Woods

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

This weeks episode takes us to the wild woods of Wales, where a remarkable woman has chosen to live close to nature in a £1000 tiny earthen home, with no running water, electricity, or internet.
To many of us, this may seem like an extreme lifestyle choice, but for Emma, this way of life is all about building a closer relationship to nature while also creating a lifestyle where she is free of the pressures of the modern world. Her simple home is beautiful, cosy and warm. Water is collected from a spring fed stream which runs by her house, and at night, candles and a fire light her home.
Emma’s story is a wonderful reminder of just how little we actually need in life, and perhaps also a reminder of how much of ourselves that we need to sacrifice in order to obtain the things we do have. I hope you enjoy her story and the video tour of her very special, very simple home.

Yeah, I think many of us are sick of showing loyalties to corporations who will replace us in seconds during a pandemic or financial crisis. Lost of us don’t even want to work a 9-5 job. We demand more work and life balance more than ever. What kind of hours is 9-5 anyways or 8-5. No wants to work 40 hours a week anymore and if there’s over time, we are taxed even more, then our social security is taxed, our land is taxed, buying a house is taxed, selling a house is taxed. Everything is taxed, honestly we never really own anything besides our time. Time is more valuable than anything. O_o The job market is crazy too. All these temp to perm positions or contract positions. Even the companies these days want to cancel or freeze job opening or the ones in place of the hiring process can’t even provide follow through or feedback. Then there jobs where a supervisor who is so out of tune with their whole team gets a say when an employee becomes test level and if a supervisor doesn’t know you than you never become recommended to take the test to make more money and then these plants/warehouses want to put their own workers in a point system.. again no life balance. I’d rather work 10-2:30, skip all the breaks and lunches and not eat on a companies time especially when they are just going to not pay you to take the lunch. Lol! And it’s not even rewarding when you don’t have the time to go eat a restaurant to enjoy an actual lunch. All lunches come in a bag or plastic wrapper . .. it’s disappointing to say the least bc the. The lunch you get is only 30 mins long. So now we are working for a company who neither can provide a convenient lunch area where many of us spend 10 mins walking and using the restroom or just to go outside before lunch and then force feed food down our throats for 12 minutes just to spend the remainder time getting back to the workstation within the plant. I know I’m over it. I’m over learning new jobs just to be fired at will or replaced when I reach top out pay or replaced with a temporary hire. Why work for the USA when the USA CANT IMPLEMENT something to help workers safe to work? Everyday check is save saved just incase we are fired next month. That’s no way to live. Too much anxiety and fear.

Love hearing that Wales started an initiative for low impact, natural housing. That's very encouraging, especially knowing that Wales is a country rich in fairytales and magical folks dwelling in quaint cottages. Clearly we're all reaching back to our past when life was, not necessarily simpler in terms of housing ( palaces and castles and all that have existed throughout known history), but when people built for themselves in ways that were more suitable for their needs and the environment. This is what the world needs in order to heal.

My grandmother used a treadle sewing machine to make clothing, sheets & pillow cases- just about everything. She would pick her cotton & cord it by hand & make quilt after quilt. Patchwork quilts from worn out items. She made soap in a big iron pot on an open fire outside. This soap was used for all needs. Toothbrushes were made out of twigs & baking soda was toothpaste. She cooked everything from scratch & OMG she could cook! And of course she canned. She was 70 yrs older than me, I was the last child to live with her. I was with her for 2 years. Those times & her ways. I have drawn on those days all my life. We are so spoiled these days.

I think more people than you think would love simplicity in living. The lady in the clip owns her own land and built the home on that. Not everyone has the money to purchase land and so they're faced with either renting or getting a mortgage - so they not only tie themselves to the evil of interest attached to a loan but also that of a loan for a big chunk of their lives. Our leaders have in effect made our lives difficult with the housing situation. It is either rent for life or save up and go abroad somewhere cheap where your savings can buy you a home. That is better in terms of not adding to ones stress. But I do agree with you on the 'success' blueprint people follow, many not even realising it is not needed. University (huge debt), home (huge debt), car (huge debt), gadgets (more debt). Most people think they are independent but are unwittingly trapped in credit and enslaved to others.

I believe we were created to live closer to nature without all these modern distractions. Our ancestors studied the seasons, the stars, the moon, the animals etc. That's how they knew when to plant, when to save food for the winter, and a whole bunch of other knowledge that is disappearing. God provided things we need to live and many are now feeling the calling to go back to basics. God never meant for us to have to pay bills etc...but to live off the land and all he provides in nature. Food, shelter, even medicines... but we have lost all that knowledge. I watched a documentary where 6 indigenous women in Washington went into the forest and harvested plants and different things and made a feast for the camera crew and film maker with only what they found in the forest it was amazing and wonderful. This brave woman living alone in the mountains has a close connection with nature and she is so inspiring. I pray she lives a long and healthy life.

So I have to create a parallel reality that I can be happy in." I think a lot of people feel this way about our culture, but so many don't believe they can really do anything about it. People like this woman show us we can. As more of us take steps to create this beautiful parallel reality collectively, I believe it can rival the mainstream reality. More and more people will switch over as they see there really is another option. People like her are pioneers and way showers, they refuse to accept an unacceptable reality and substitute their own reality. Let's do the same in whatever way we can

I feel like this woman is an archetype that we are desperately missing and craving, in our society and even in our stories - the closest thing we have is the word 'crone' and yet that word (sadly and mistakenly) comes with negative connotations. But this woman is incredibly strong - her power is not derived from men or money or society but flows from her knowledge and will and connection to the earth, she is who I aspire to become. She has risen above so much that holds us down to find her own true and genuine joy, and she is beholden to no one. What an inspiration. She is a warrior of peace, and I think this deserves so much more glory than what we are currently ascribing value towards as a world.

How ashamed I am of myself, I started to watch the video and my thoughts were, this lady must be a crazy. I watched, I listened to her & what a lovely, wise woman.

She lives a life right out of a children's storybook. Such an interesting person. I would not be surprised to see forest critters gathering there for conversation & tea. Just lovely! Edit: I think I've watched this more than 2x now. It just feels like something I want to remind myself of; happiness is typically inversely proportional to complexity in one's life. Perhaps leaning toward introversion helps.:-) Right now I'm living in a suburb of DFW in TX, and can't imagine a more extreme departure from true happiness than that. A reminder that it's about time for me to go back to nomad mode.

„Happines is typically inversely proportional to complexity in one´s life.“ So much truth in that, brought to the point in a simple and understandable sentence. I ´ll remember this one - thank you for the clarity 🤗

This is my second watching of this amazing video of the life of an extraordinary woman. This time around I noticed small details that I previously missed. The Buddha statue, several Om symbols, the lovely stones & crystals & the pottery that have been thrown on a wheel. And that beautiful roof. This is a woman who would be worthwhile getting to know & learning all of the things that she has learned from the beginning of her adventure.
