Wolverine's origins are pretty tough to trace. From his introduction in Incredible Hulk he was just a Canadian maniac. Then they built up all the Weapon X stuff. Then they went with the "Sabretooth is his dad" thing. Now post-Secret Wars, they've scrambled it up again. They've rewritten his history almost as much as Captain America. I wish they could pick a narrative and just stick with it.

Ya know, I have a Theory. Rose: Red head, green eyes, Kind, strong, loved Logan even though he was dangerous and had these weird powers, killed by Logan's claws. Jean Grey: Red head, green eyes, Kind, strong, loved Logan even though he was dangerous, killed by Logan's claws. Even though Logan's memories were very faint, he could probably still remember Rose just a little bit, and Jean reminded him of Rose, that's probably why he loved her so much.

It had a nifty fight with Deadpool where Logan was maneuvered into having a piano being dropped on him in the middle of the fight outside to Deadpool's complete amusement. I'm sure there was a lot of interesting things actually, it's just a bit hard to collect them all. I think there's at least 30-50 of them.

The direction I thought they were going to go with Wolverine's origin story (and now wish they had gone): (Sorry about the length) They seemed to have set it up to make most readers believe (only to switch it up on us at the end) that Dog was going to be the half brother or the unacknowledged full older brother of James, and that Dog would eventually become the character known to us as Sabertooth. The way that they drew the grandfather ('John Howlett the 1st') also seemed to be intentional, and implied that he too was related to Thomas Logan (and his sons Dog and James, and John Howlett the 3rd - the other, now deceased, older half or full blooded brother of James). John Howlett the 2nd (Jame's step father, who he was raised to believe was his actual father) seems to have been written to fill the role of the milquetoast 'nice guy' cucklord type in this origin story. John's wife, Elizabeth Howlett (nee Hudson), not only birthed John Howlett the 3rd (the other son who scarred her back up before he died/ was killed) with another man (it's implied that Thomas was the father that time, as well, but I think they should have made it that it was the grandfather's child and that the grandfather killed him after he unintentionally let the family's mutant secret out when he bone clawed his mom after finding out his father wasn't who he thought he was), she then goes on to bear James with Thomas Logan, and possibly even Dog before that (between John Howlett the 3rd and James). I remember reading the origin mini series thinking that they were going to eventually reveal Thomas Logan to be the biological son of the grandfather (John Howlett the 1st, who the artist drew to look just like him with the stereotypical 'Wolverine'-like facial features, etc). I remember thinking that they were going to disclose that the grandfather was a carrier of the same mutant genome as Wolverine and Sabertooth (assuming they were going to show that Dog was in fact Sabertooth), and that Thomas Logan was also a carrier but just a weak carrier (or that he had not had his potential mutant abilities fully triggered to express themselves, yet). I assumed we'd get a back story showing that 'John Howlett the 1st' (the grandfather) had stolen the Howlett name and taken over the estate and the copper mining business of some rich man named John Howlett - a man that he'd murdered decades ago in order to get to where he is now. I thought that they were going to write it so that the grandfather was fearful of keeping his biological son, Thomas (who carried his father's actual last name, Logan), directly tied to the (newly stolen) Howlett family name and riches because Thomas knew the truth about how his father got to where he is. Besides that, the grandfather believed that his son Thomas wasn't a worthy successor, feeling that he was too mentally weak and too much of a loose canon to be trusted with the full responsibilities of maintaining the family business and running the estate's affairs, but still letting him stay on the property as the groundskeeper. This was where I figured John Howlett the 2nd's character would come into play. I wanted the story to go that John Howlett the 2nd (Wolverine's step dad) was actually the 'adopted' (stolen) son of John Howlett the 1st (who is really grandfather Logan), and that John Howlett the 2nd was actually the biological son of the real John Howlett the 1st - the man that grandfather Logan had murdered when John Howlett the 2nd was just a tiny infant. Grandfather Logan, already seeing signs of his own wild/ primal aggressive mutant genetic traits start to come out in his actual son, Thomas, needed an heir (or heirs) he could depend on to carry on his stolen family name/ business, and so raised John Howlett the 2nd as his own and manipulated him into becoming the dependable yet pussified cucklord type of a man he'd eventually prove to be. It was said that there was another Howlett son that had died after the estate mansion was built, so they could have made it so that Howlett was another biological son of the real John Howlett the 1st who was raised by grandfather Logan as his first heir (and who was also very young when his parents were killed, and was unable to remember anything about them). I wanted the story to show that Thomas Logan was aware of all of these facts about his father because he'd witnessed all of this transpire when he was a young child (he saw his father bone claw murder/ decapitate the actual John Howlett the 1st and his wife and other Howlett family members who might have gotten in the way of his plans). This would give Thomas all the reason in the world to feel hatred towards John Howlett the 2nd (who, sadly, wouldn't have had the slightest clue as to why he was being hated on so much while they grew up together in a Cain Marko/ Charles Xavier sort of way, assuming Thomas kept his mouth shut about what his Dad actually did to John's real father). This would have set the story up in a way that Wolverine's early life would be an almost perfect mirroring of his step-father, John's, tragic upbringing, the only difference in this case would be that Dog (Sabertooth) would be James' actual biological half brother (if Dog had a different mother) or full blooded (if Dog's mom was also Elizabeth) brother instead of the unacknowledged adopted (step?) brother that John the 2nd was/ is to Thomas. They could have written it so that Thomas Logan keeps his mouth shut out of continued fear of his father's threats to him about ever telling anyone the truth about who they are/ where they came from, and never actually tells his son, Dog, that Dog is the grandson of 'John Howlett the 1st' (aka grandfather Logan), but he does encourage Dog to bully and hate on James (Wolverine) as much as he can in the same way he used to bully John the 2nd while they were growing up (James now filling the same role for Dog that John Howlett the 2nd did for Thomas when they were growing up). The implicit take away reason for Wolverine turning out to be a 'good guy'/ hero (as opposed to the ruthless animalistic killer that he was genetically predisposed to become, just like his grandfather, father and brother, Sabertooth), would be based on the nurturing differences he experienced growing up, having a loving/ caring (c̶u̶c̶k̶ step) father in John Howlett the 2nd. Even if they didn't go in this direction, exactly, they still could have made the origin story 10x better than what they did with a few minor tweaks here and there. They completely dropped the ball on that whole aspect of Wolverine's origin story. I just hope they retcon it again some day to make it at least somewhat interesting (for example; make it so Thomas didn't actually die due to his mutant healing factor and that the grandfather still wants to find Wolverine to kill him like he killed his other grandson for revealing the mutant side of their family to the world) and much more suited to the character that Wolverine is supposed to be.
