Wolf Team/Motoi Sakuraba SEGA Genesis Music Compilation (Real Hardware)

Ойындар

Here's a compilation of soundtracks by Wolf Team on the SEGA Genesis. All tracks were recorded from a real SEGA Genesis model 1 for the best audio quality. We have also uploaded all of these soundtracks in full on our channel and they can be downloaded from our MEGA folder.
Most Wolf Team games were ports of their titles on the Sharp X68000, with the exception of El Viento and Earnest Evans which were developed solely for the Genesis. If you listen to the soundtracks chronologically, you can hear how the sound technology advanced over the years. The first games released, Final Zone and Zan: Yasha Enbukyoku, used a very basic version of the Wolf Team sound driver. For some reason, they chose not to have sampled percussion and instead used the PSG chip to create it. I can't think of any other games that did this, and it makes the soundtracks sound a lot less full compared to the Sharp versions. Granada was also released in this time period, and used the Cube driver. This was the first appearance of the clap sample. The next game was Dino Land, which still used the Cube Driver but also used the samples that would become the standard for future games. After this, every other Wolf Team game used the custom Wolf Team driver with improved instruments and samples.
Another thing worth mentioning is that many Wolf Team games had audio glitches that impacted how the music sounds in game. For example, Arcus Odyssey is completely missing the high tom sample, which is instead replace by a static pop, and Earnest Evans is missing some instruments entirely (this was fixed by a VGM patch that I used to record the soundtrack).
Motoi Sakuraba worked on all of these soundtracks except Dino Land, and is easily recognizable by his bass lines and infamous usage of claps through out his songs. If you want a full list of composers, check out the uploads for each game.

I had a Mega Drive growing up, played a ton of games, explored a lot of titles later with emulation that I didn't have a chance to play as kid, and I never heard of ANY of the games in this list. I'm so impressed, the music in this compilation is insanely good, among the best from the console. I'm downloading each one of these ROMs today and playing them all, I can't believe all these games went under my radar.

I swear, you could almost title this the Motoi Sakuraba Power Hour. Even though Dino Land had someone elses hand in the job, I'm shocked to hear just how hard the music goes in its end themes. Especially considering the more light hearted tone. Motoi Sakuraba was the first time I ever paid attention to the end credits of a game just to see who the fuck made the music. And he has continued to influence me since then. I've always loved VG BGM before. But his name and even face after seeing live footage of him playing was the first identity of a musician I'd ever put to the media. He needs more respect! But now you've posted something that has made my day.

It's crazy how two composers using the same instruments on the same sound chip can sound so different. Ichiro Hada's Dino Land tracks are beautiful, but when they're surrounded by a sea of Sakuraba tracks, it's obvious that they were written by another person.

Just got done relistening to all of this while practicing some coding. I'm even better than before now. I swear Wolfteam Megadrive music is awesome to practice to. I even do Motoi Sakuraba style arpeggios on guitar and keyboards in my spare time. He's got that whole dark atmosphere done insanely right. Also a respectful mention to Ichiro Hada (Dino Land). I guess Wolf Team felt that Motoi's way of instrumentation was TOO dark for the younger ears. So they got another composer who uses the major key of his scale progressions more (wonder if he ever went on to do anything else).

Can you do the PC Engine version of Bomberman Panic Bomber? The game's CDDA tracks have all been ripped already, but it also has some chiptunes that haven't been ripped yet.
