Was listening to Thunder Force 4 and then KZread switched to this. What a GEM I've found!
Soundtracks like this are the reason why I only find myself listening to game music recently. This has to be one of my favourites.

SuperBig exactly, there are at least 2 dozen excellent gen soundtracks imo. Midnight Resistance, Shinobi series, PSIV, Adventures of Batman &R, Monster World IV, Gauntlet IV, Master of Monsters, Devilish, Shining F series, Alien Soldier, Gunstar S, Ristar, Comix Zone, Hyperstone Heist, Mega Turrican etc... my favorite console for gaming music by far.

Holy hell this soundtrack is amazing! Wish they’d give this game the HD remaster treatment along with my favourite Genesis game Alisia Dragoon.

Why do you want this or Alisia in HD? The originals play and look perfect. Using a new cheap “HD” artstyle and one of those modern indie chiptune soundtracks would absolutely shit all over what makes them great.

Some of the best tracks on Mega Drive, and shit one of the best games too at that. The ending themes are my jams but I always get hype with stage 1. Good shit.

15:51 Story 3 & Stage 5 theme is a nice homage to Zero Wing (another game that uses the CUBE Sound Driver. The song itself has taken cues from Zero Wing's music pieces: "Open your Eyes", "New Day for Me", and "Hit Man".

CUBE's iconic heavy electric shred guitar (in which I had often dubbed this instrument as the "Zero Wing Guitar" or "McFire Guitar", due to its common role in Zero Wing's Mega Drive soundtrack, but you know what I'm talking about), made its debut on Space Invaders '90, one of the first games to use the CUBE sound driver.

"Stick to it! And believe in your power!" Stage 1 tune kicks, but those great VOs are what really hooked me. "FRAGMENTS !! Are Approaching !!"
I know this is kind of late, but the "Easy Mode ending" theme plays if you fail to save your father on any difficulty, the "Normal Mode ending" theme plays if you succeed, and the "unused" theme plays on the final stage if you saved your father.
@BADC0FFEE

If some of these instruments sound familiar, that's because they are. Noriyuki Iwadare arranged Zero Wing's soundtrack for Sega Genesis.

A shame that it wasn't more widespread, this game deserved worldwide exposure. It happened with Gynough so it's sad that NCS didn't manage to do the same with Gley Lancer. btw, if it's not already done, try it on hard mode for faster bullets and more interesting boss fights!
@SpeedySPCFan

I think the issue with Gleylancer was that it had a story to go along with it, so they would have had to translate that and probably didn't think it was worth the effort. It's a shame like you said though. I haven't actually even finished the game on Normal; I didn't want to spoil myself before getting to play the game on my Mega Drive so I quit playing after a bit.

The presentation, music, and artwork of this game is phenomenal...but the game itself is just above average IMHO.
Love this game, and love its OST and the cheese voice-overs immensely. Getting the English translation of the ROM was totally worth the effort, too -- I really enjoy the cutscenes in this!
I found some mistakes in song list. 29:32 Stage 11 (Rescue failure) 37:55 Bad Ending (Rescue failure) 40:29 Good Ending (Rescue success) 44:49 Stage 11 (Rescue success)

The Mega Amp mod is supposed to replicate the sound of a model 1--it's not perfect due to the YM3438 having different characteristics but it gets very close and I've actually come to prefer it as it has a lower noisefloor and less distorted output than the headphone jack. And you're welcome, I really should have done this one long ago.

Did you know that the Electric Pick Bass FM patch (most noticeably used in Zero Wing) was actually used in El Viento? Despite this, El Viento uses the Wolfteam custom sound driver, which explains the reason why Wolfteam uses the Cube sound driver for their earlier games.

Yep. Did you know that the overdrive electric bass that was used in MUSHA was later used in Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine?

And that was Puyo Puyo. MUSHA uses an Unknown Custom (probably a prototype of the Compile Custom driver), and Puyo Puyo uses the Compile Custom driver. I guess FM patch sharing in Compile has something to do with it?
I think ost sounds much better in 50 hz.
