I had a male for five years. He passed to young from bone cancer. I’ve never owned an animal more loving, loyal, protective and my best friend. Miss you Odin.

Me as well! He chose me when he was living with his owner. He stopped eating until I came back and they gave him to me. He was about 2 when I got him. I only had him 3 years and he also had bone cancer and had to be put down. 😰I’ve had many dogs, but there’ll never be another protective loving soulmate companion like Warrior!

The only Irish Wolfhound I have met came up to me, put his feet on my shoulders and looked me straight in the eyes. I'm 6'3". Super friendly.

Same experience. Came up with good body language so went for some good chest and neck pets. Stopped. Homie just lurched up putting front feet on my shoulder and grunted for more chest rubs. Felt very Great Dane to me where they didn’t realize how big they actually were and thought they were lap dogs

My daughter was terrified by a dog when she was three, and would literally climb my body to get on my shoulders to avoid any dog. Then one day we went to visit my boss's home, and in walked Sasquatch at 180lbs. Now at 6 y/o, my daughter was frozen stiff, and Sass gently walked over to her and very gently nuzzled her. I told her that Sass was the King of Dogs, and from that day forward she was never frightened again.

I met an Irish wolfhound for the first time today. It really might be the king of all dogs😂. I was shocked by his size but seriously impressed with how kind, happy, and gentle he was.

We used to watch the neighbors wolfhound for them here and there. Sully, he was a giant baby. So friendly, so obedient. The funniest part about him though was the fact that he was DEATHLY afraid of our cat. Like run and hide behind someone scared. I miss him actually. He was a GREAT dog.

I became the first kennel manager of a no kill, non profit shelter back in 1978. My boss owned the first Irish Wolfhound I had ever seen. His name was Thorin Oakenshield. We all brought our various dogs to work and it was so much fun to see the reactions of both adults and children when they saw Thorin. He was always gentle and kind,. Thorin and the rest of the original staff's dogs have long ago passed on. The original staff, we're all past our mid 60's now. I'm proud to say that shelter is still going strong .

@@johnharris7353 It was my joy back then. I moved on from there and just kept on rescuing cats and dogs. I did become the Crazy Cat Lady ..lol. I'm down to 3 dogs and 5 cats now.

I had a irish wolfhound. Wonderful dog, he didn't shed, never destroyed a thing, house trained as puppy the first day, they're breathing carpets he'd lay in his spot the whole day till it was mealtime and time to go out. Made house rounds at night checking the house and the children from time to time in the night. He loved car rides, short walks, and sitting next to you or at your feet. Excellent companion

Lost my Irish Wolfhound baby this past June. What a joy it was to share his life for 11 yrs and 2 mo.

I am a proud Wolfhound owner. She is enormous and a total baby. I will say this, we ran into two black bears and she immediately went into protection mode to put space between the bears and myself. Loyal, sweet, and overall and amazing animal.

I grew up with with one of these guys down the street. Everyone treated him like a person and his owner let him walk around the neighborhood alone. Stanley was amazing, checked in on everyone on the street and loved to watch kids and follow them around. Though he would find time to watch over anyone grilling food outside. He ate at his families table. Obviously everyone else was sitting and his plate was on the table. He was eye level when they sat down and lived for about 16 years

I've been a veterinary technician for 40 years, and I've met a few of these fellows. They've all been well behaved dogs, none of them have given me a hard time. But, all were very well socialized from puppyhood.

If you're gonna spend that much on a dog, then you'll definitely get them trained. They're pretty rare. I worked at a vet office for 12 years and only ever saw 1. I had the same experience as you. He was a really good boy. Potty trained, leash trained, food trained (not food aggressive if you didn't get my meaning but i'm sure you did). If I could afford one, i'd buy one but they're a little too big for my place and a little more high energy then I can accommodate. I've always told people, that if they're going to get a dog, then make sure you can provide a stable healthy environment for them.

Blessed to live with an Irish Wolfhound. She is so gentle, intelligent, loving, and kind. When she looks into my eyes, I feel … known. She is the love of our lives. Looks so much like these beauties ❤

When I was a child in the 70s and 80s, we had an Irish wolfhound crossed with a golden lab called Sabre. He lived to be 17. And was a wonderful boy.

We lived in a pub, they all loved him, when he passed we had a card and flowers signed ''from all Sabres friends at the Clarence''....even though we'd moved on a while back. I still get misty eyed when i remember that gesture :) I love animals, and people can be pretty awesome too :)

There was an Irish Wolf Hound from the other neighborhood. I rode a bicycle and was up late at night after work. He would run around me and protect me once I entered his territory, sometimes before. He ran circles around me until I got to my home. He didn't expect a treat or anything. When he was done, he'd run off.

One of my neighbours had a great Dane when I was a kid. That dog was the friendliest thing on four legs, but it was just TOO BIG! I got really hurt one day, because it wanted to play with me while I was riding my bike. He kind of just jumped me to lick my face and I crashed. Poor dog, my mom was soooo mad. But I started crying, telling her he just wanted to play and she let it go. Poor thing got hit by a car soon after that. His owners didn't keep him on a leash, but never took the time to train him. So he was all over the two or three blocks around. Like some wandering friendly monster, just sniffing everyone's crotch, jumping up and down with joy, whenever someone took the time to pet and talk to him. I think every kid around was sad the day he got hit. Today, that dog would have been at the SPCA about 20X by now. And the owners would be paying fines until the next century. The 70s were WAY different. But that dog was EXACTLY like Scoby-Doo.

He wasn't protecting you, he was protecting his owner. He just kept an eye on you till you got out of sight. If you had been attacked by someone he probably would have just trotted back home.

They clearly say they’re not good guard dog so this dog would not have protected you from anybody it would’ve watched you get attacked and then licked your blood up

They have a very friendly look, almost like a smile. If it weren't for their size, I imagine most people who are wary of dogs would be confident enough to approach them.

They have a chilled out attitude and can read the atmosphere no matter what the occasion. Basically they are the coolest dogs on the planet, and i don`t say that lightly because i love all dog breeds but The Irish Wolfhound is the BIG clever boy in the classroom of all creatures both great and small.

Longdogs, be they Greyhound, Wolfhound, Deerhound or Lurcher all seem to have the same temperament. Couch potatoes, the lot of 'em! Love them to bits but it's so sad the larger breeds have such short lives..

When I was 9, we adopted a dog who was half Irish Wolfhound, half Airedale. He was roughly 2 when we got him, and we finally had to put him down at 16. Watching this, I see a LOT of good old Winston's personality, and even though it's been 25 years since he left, I'm getting those happy/sad tears. What an amazing dog to grow up with.

Yeah. These things rarely reach 10, so that’s really impressive.

I've had many dogs in my life for many different reasons. Working dog, hunting dog, companion dog, rescue dog, but one beautiful Irish Wolfhound blessed my life in ways that still cause me to quietly smile or shed a tear. She was a rare and irreplaceable guardian and friend with a boundless Spirit.

I was a nurse in a tiny town in the Canadian Arctic. We did not have a vet so people learned that I would see animals at the hospital. I got in so much trouble for that but I didn’t care. I was the boss! One night someone brought me their IW, Walter. He had a bad cut on his leg. He was laying in the back of a tiny hatchback car so I just leaned in and sutured him up. He’d just turn his massive head from time to time to look at me. He knew I was helping him. What a magnificent beast he was!

@@tackalian3103 Why the ugly language? If you didn’t believe it, what was it to you, after all? I know people like that first hand. I know a vet’s main assistant, and animal stories like that abound. I can well imagine it’s true. In fact, I do believe it. I have an aunt who was head of a large hospital ER. She stood up to administrative staff on behalf of patients on a regular basis. She never got in trouble for it. They often did. Go figure.

I grew up in the Canadian Arctic and back in the day the gals in those nursing stations (along with the RCMP officer if there was one) were pretty much the whole of officialdom. The essential service they provided and the respect they held meant that no one but a fool would have complained of Lois's chosen extra service she describes. Sounds entirely true to me. It is hard to imagine just how isolated those places are and consequently how far help and close death can be. Many are hundreds of kilometers from *any* other civilization. Great dog. I used to frequent an antique shop in the Gettysburg area, and they had a giant wolf hound there, his name was Buddy. That dog took an instant like to me, and I would always stop in there just to see him after we met that first time. He passed on, and I always think what a great friend he was. I still miss him as if he were my own.

I had my first wolfhound some years ago. I took her on just before her 7th birthday. I was lucky to have just over three years with her. I lost my 14 year old rottie in November. As if by some incredible turn of fate, the kennels I had my girl from had a dog returned to them, again an older chap. He's six. I traveled over 500 miles Sunday and brought him home to live his days out with me. He's settled with my 17 year old blind rescue dog perfectly. He's extremely obedient and very loving. I feel privilege to get to care for and have this beauty by my side for the rest of his days.

When i was younger, my cottage neighbor's had 2 of these. They were by far the most nicest and protective dogs ive ever seen. We had a pack of 4 Grey wolfs approach our cottage and the dogs came bolting over and circled our cottage to protect us out of nowhere. The dogs pushed the wolfs away from our cottage. They had done things like that multiple times and once even scared away a bear off the steps. Its an oddity, because the distance between our neighbors and us was like a 5-10 minute walk away so for them to be able to tell somethings up and come running over to help. They were the nicest, friendliest, goofy things i have ever seen. They are friendly giants

Are you for real? Wow man, pity you didn`t manage to record any of this film from the 17th century life in the wielderness. But you are right about the nature of `the friendly goofy `nature of these fine dogs.

I grew up with Irish wolfhounds we had a few litters that I got to help with delivery/leash train and had one that escorted me everywhere as a child! They had half of a barn and a quarter acre to run on because we kept them as a family until they found appropriate permanent qualified homes!Loose in the woods as a child ,with my horse and my Irish wolfhound: best memories ever! 💜

Having bred and shown Woolfies for over 20yrs I have found them to be the most wonderful animal to live with. They have one of the best natured dogs. Have ever come across.

I'll never forget the time I first saw one of these animals. He was sitting on a dock floating in a giant lake in Texas. I couldn't tell what it was as we were approaching the doc in a boat, but as we got closer I started to realize that it was a dog and I was in shock and disbelief! I'm five four and this dog came up to my breast so about 4 ft at the nose, maybe. Larger and taller than the biggest Great Dane I've ever seen. One of the few times in my life that I couldn't trust what I was seeing! We docked the boat and approached. He was the sweetest, kindest creature... He darted off suddenly when his owner called him from the house up the hill, fast as lightning. It's the one and only time I've ever seen one in person and I'm still, to this day, in disbelief at how huge and majestic that dog was.

Visited a breeder of Irish Wolfhound last summer. Let my 2 year-old son stand amongst 3 huge adult males and they were very gentle to him. The females were also very sweet. Even though there were like 20 of them, the house didn’t stink that much. They didn’t bark either, only playful growls here and there from the puppies. Gosh they’re the sweetest things, these dogs. In short: One of the best day of my life.

I super love these guys. As I posted about, we babysat one for a long time when I was child and he was very wonderful with me, even though he knocked me over a few times.

I had a friend years ago who had a pair of these huge dogs, which she kept as house pets. They were the biggest, dopest, friendliest dogs I had ever been around. Completely different when you saw them run.

Friends of mine were the proud owners of an Irish Wolfhound. They used to bring him to SCA (medieval events). He was a true cuddle bug who loved everyone and protected the children. Sweet dog, missed by all!

I would always love to see what dogs people would bring to the SCA events, I miss doing to them.

We owned a beautiful Irish wolfhound we adopted in the UK in 1985. He was my baby. Standing At 32 inches at the shoulder and 172 pounds he was the most gentle love of my life. He only ever wanted to play. He was an awesome sight / lure course participant with a promising future. Unfortunately he was bitten by a timber rattler at age 2 1/2 years.. Keddleston Star was the grandson of international champion Wild Isle Warlock. 30 years later I still cry for him.

My last dog was an Irish Wolfhound crossed with a Saint Bernard weighing 92 kg (203 pounds) but was a gentle beast. He lived to be almost 10 because I believe he had the St. Bernard heart. It destroyed me when he went!

@@yosserc You know I never thought of that till you explained it but that must be the reason that big dogs don’t live long because the bigger the dog the harder it is on their organs and their muscular skeletal system. . My neighbor had a Rottweiler and he lived to be about 10 years and my neighbor even said to me when he died that large dogs like his Rottweiler usually live around 10 to 12 years.

I had a Wolfhound, Oisin, he was so gentle. Unfortunately he got a form of meningitis, and even with the best efforts of the Dublin Vetinary Hospital he passed. There is a story of a Celtic chieftan who gave a pair of hounds to a Viking chief from Iceland, he said "they will bark at your enemies but never at your friends"

Our wolfhound passed away many years ago. He was 38" at the shoulder, a gentle giant. He used to sleep with our lambs in the spring, and look after them. I'm 5'11,, when finn stood up with paws on my shoulders, he stood a lofty 6'2, 6'3.. he weight around 7 stone , lived for 9 years.

I seen two of these been walked by a little old lady about 10 years ago, I couldn't believe how well trained and gentle they were. Really awesome dog's to see in person

I just saw one today for the first time walking back from work, literally stopped in my tracks on the sidewalk, they were walking with this tiny women, first thought was the hound of Baskerville lol as I’m from a village on dartmoor where the books set. Such a cool unusual looking dog, never seen one like that before

I have a baby Wolfhound, Jack. He currently weighs 180lbs and still has another 10 months left to grow..I have had dogs my entire life and he is the most affectionate one yet. He has to be touching on one constantly. He is a giant lapdog for sure. Thank you for making this video.

Lucky you. I'm Australian and only ever seen an Irish Wolfhound once. What a magnificent animal. I could never own one. I weigh 48kgs and have no hope of controlling one. I hope you and Jack have a wonderful life together. It's all too short with dogs. They leave you broken-hearted when they pass on. Enjoy every moment.

@@maryeverett8708 it's about confidence,trust,respect and training , every adult fat or skinny can handle a dog and these dogs are so kindharted , on walks mine kept always in hand reach ... even without a leach !

My parents adopted a Irish wolfhound, affectionately named “shaggy Maggie”. She is the sweetest dog and had absolutely gorgeous brown eyes. I’ve often told my parents I would happily adopt her myself if they are ever so inclined haha. Amazing breed

HUAN, the Hound of Valinor, was a great wolfhound, one of the hunting dogs of Oromë the Hunter. Huan had been granted special powers by the Valar, he was as large as a small horse, immortal, tireless and sleepless, and was allowed to speak three times before he died.

My first family dog was an adorable Irish wolfhound "Asgard" when I was 4 years old , I did get 2 more later Gaëwen and Goswald some brothers , they are such nice and kind dogs and to see this video randomly pop up in my recommendation many years later remind me that having Irish wolfhound as my first dogs taught me alots of things and brought me a lot a affection at this time !

@@AVONEUS Actually they cost like any other small dogs BUT lots of food , when u need to pay for medication when the hounds are like massive u need high number of medication so that's worth a lots of money in this way ( food and medication ) but they are like any other dogs otherwises except they obviously need a big space and garden to be able to run a bit or etc

As a kid (maybe 6 years old), we once played in a village next to mine and when walking through the streets, we walked past a big window. It was quite foggy and dark that day and behind that window, something shined through. We went closer just to find 2 irish wolfhounds behind, just standing there. I never saw anything like them and stood there, with my mouth wide open for minutes

I got a pup that was an Irish Wolfhound/Great Pyrenees cross when I lived in Montana. What a smart good boy he was! I took him to obedience training early (4 months) and he did better than every other dog in the group. I am disabled and trained him early in my disability knowing I wouldn't be as able to control him later. He was my wonderful loving companion. Sadly, he got bone cancer and I had to put him down at 6 years old. Broke my heart. I loved that boy.

A guy has two Anatolian Pyrenees. These dogs are such an awesome dog. They definitely have to be trained while young and because they are so easy going people usually don’t train them properly, leaving the dog to their own devices when they are older. A guy thinks they are the best he has ever owned.

Thanks for this beautful report! My uncle had one of these 15 years ago. I loved this dog so much, when I got sick three years ago, I still mourned her lying down with heavy fever. They are truly gentle giants and amazing to have around. Kind regards from Germany!

Every day on the walk home from School, up a hill we called the gallops, one of these dogs used to appear on the other side of a basic fence. Every single day he would appear without fail awaiting his petting. Despite his size he was an extremely gentle dog. We always used to give him a pat and a stroke. I heard many years later that his owner was truly heart broken after he had passed on and that he never really got over it.

We have a gentle giant 6 year old Irish Wolfhound called Murphy,after having various breeds of mastiffs for almost 30 years he is our first Wolfie and (I'm hoping) definitely not our last.He is freakishly big for the breed (39" and over 100kg ).He is usually extremely laid back and has very little prey drive but is extremely protective of both us and his big brother Socks,our 7 year old cat ..they do everything together including going for walks, playing and eating/drinking from the same bowl at the same time.We sometimes get out to our local Wolfhound meets near Newcastle and Northumberland and it's quite funny the attention they all get from people who've never met on before... especially when there's 10-12 of them tearing down the beach.

Mine are on the larger size too. Also very protective of home and family and off lease always but super large babies at home. I want to get mine a cat too.

When I was little, we babysat a beautiful Irish wolfhound. He was wonderful. He got into the chickens and ate like five of them, but we forgave him. Once, I got off the school bus and he ran up and jumped on me to express love, knocking me into a pond of mud and throwing my books and papers over a 20 ft distance on my driveway. I still loved him.

My first dog was an irish wolfhound mixed with lab and mastiff who I named Cricket because she was loud and bouncy. She was 70lbs of pure muscle with an amazing heart and a brain which always kept us on our toes. She came from a bad home so she had a lot of emotional baggage (dog and person reactivity, resource guarding tendencies, bad manners etc.) but training her was not difficult at all. She was my pride and joy, I wouldn't pass up any opportunity to talk about her. She was my best friend and we'd spend hours outside walking, playing fetch, lazing around or going swimming together. Watching her run was magnificent, I'd keep her in impressive body shape as a result (fit, maybe even conditioned) and always received compliments on how cute she was! She passed 15 months after we got her as she was hit by a car chasing after some scent from the forest, which truth be told is a fitting way for her to go. She is the reason why I got my first job at a dog kennel and why I have became so obsessed with dogs and training. She is the reason why my next dog will be a purebred wolfhound from a responsible breeder because those 15 months with my half wolfhound made me fall in love with the breed. Thank you Cricket for all the memories we created, until we meet again.

I have had the pleasure of being a friend of an Irish wolfhound which belonged to a cousin of mine. He was a very big, sweet goofball. He was affectionate and gentle with his family, and anyone accepted by his "pack.". I don't know what he would have been like in a country setting where he could have run free, but in the city I found him to be an affectionate, somewhat clumsy, but very charming, and loyal family member.

I had a rescue hound, a Wheaton Brindle called Jake. On walks he would suddenly decide to wrestle me with a fearsome growl which used to frighten people to death. My young children used to lie with him and they would all fall asleep together. When he was laying on his side asleep he would sometimes dream of chasing something , it was hilarious. I am welling up now so thankyou for posting this, it is now on my favourites .

Wow, sounds just like my girl. She is ALWAYS on the chase and snoring/farting!

About 3 years ago I went to Ireland & Scotland. Got to meet two Irish wolfhounds and working border collies. Absolutely majestic beasts!

There’s a couple of these near where I live. To see one bounding towards you at full speed can leave you a bit nervous 😬 But They are honestly one of the most Stunning and Handsome breed of Dogs I have ever had the pleasure to see.

These guys are awesome indeed, their human companions must be such loving souls...beautiful and heart warming...Thank you...God Bless!

I'm broken hearted when I think of my two Irish wolfhounds, how we loved each other and how much I miss them.

We just got our 5th IW. There is just no dog that compares to them. Intelligent, empathetic, kind, gentle (until they feel you are being threatened!) and so loyal. Amazing creatures. Seeing them run full out is a sight! They are more than just a dog; they are family. 💕

We have had dogs for 30+ years. German sheperds mostly. than we decided to let a wolfhound into our lives. It was by far the most nobel and sweet loving dog we ever had. He passed away at 6 precicely one year ago. We do miss him so much. As i am 70 year old now i will not take a puppy again but if i were younger i certainly would.

I've had two that I sadly lost due to a house fire earlier this year... My girl Rosa (8,5 years old) and my boy Nano were everything that they said in the video... Gentle giants with a heart as big as their size. They are truly a family, they need to be with their humans and they will make themselves as tiny as they could to fit next to you because that's all that matters (or sometimes they will just sit on you or steal your couch). Even though they're not guard dogs, their size and appearance is enough to deter anyone who wants to come in to your house uninvited 😉 They just love you sooo much, they're so trusting and loyal ❤ I have a new girl by my side, my not so little 8 months old Lily how's helping heal from the pain and the loss of my 2 puppies, and I can't wait to live that new adventure with this amazing breed 💖 To be short, 10/10 dogo, many pets, treatos required but overall 100% cuddle bug.

I am so very sorry for your loss. I can't imagine. I am glad that you have Lily to help you heal. I agree on 100% cuddle bugs. As for guard dogs. Mine boy has a ferocious growl and bark and uses it when anyone comes to the door or even walks on the sidewalk in front of the house. He moves aside the curtain on the front door and growls and I have many funny moments of delivery drivers jumping outright at the surprise of his size and his angry face. So excellent an excellent deterrant for sure. He loves other dogs. Very gentle with the little ones. Were your dogs picky eaters? My boy won't eat cold chicken has to be lukewarm, he won't eat raw eggs just scrambled. He is on a good kibble and then chicken and organic veg diet mainly. I vary his meals a bit. I rarely get to communicate with other Wolfie owners so forgive my comments and questions. God bless you and your baby Lily. Do people stop you to take photos too? I get that all of the time haha. He just got groomed and I had them give him a Mohawk this time.

My dog was half irish wolfhound, Max and he lived till 14 years old. Breaks my heart seeing those dogs faces because they look exactly like him. Never stopped missing him and its been 7 years later.

I had a wolfhound and it was very smart but so gentle, it weighted in at 60 kg due to her diet and lived to 17years old, and so faithful.

The last few Irish Wolfhounds and crosses were used to recreate the breed. The Scottish deerhound are Irish wolfhounds. Nothing was mixed in. They simply got smaller because they were hunting smaller prey.

Finally! 13 years ago I was walking my small Maltese, and she began barking and I turned my head and saw this giant dog. I couldn't explain or describe to my family because I have never seen anything like that doggie. He was so docile..I was shocked. I am so happy I found this post!! Thank you!! In addition, I had a golden doodle, and boy their face and nose are practically identical. I just find these giants mesmerizing!!

Our beloved Wolfhound Gladys died last year at the Age of 9 years and 3 months. I miss her every day! She was the kindest and cutest and most loving dog I ever had. Everyone in our small village knew and loved her (Dogs AND Humans) She was really one of a kind💕❤

I live with dogs my whole life and one thing I am certain- every dog can be pet or killer it depends only on the owners .

These are my favourite dog, ever! They are absolutely gorgeous.

Last summer I was out and about in the city and stopped in my tracks at the outdoor dining area of a restaurant when I saw a massive, very well behaved Wolfhound sitting at the table with his parents. The owners were SO excited that “someone actually knows what he is!” and I fell in love with him. Such a sweet, docile giant :)

I fell in love with this breed as a child, back in the early nineties, at around 10/11ish, there was a livery yard in Shropshire that I used to ride and event at, and there were two of these as family/yard dogs - they were enormous! I remember when us slightly older kids went out on day hacks in the summer holidays, they’d walk alongside and around us for miles all day long, and when we got back and dismounted, you still kind of felt like the dogs were so big walking back up to the house, they felt like little ponies’ themselves! They used to give massive kisses and gentle nudges and they had this air, this grace about them I haven’t ever forgotten. I only knew them a few years, and I haven’t ever met another since those back then, but I actively remember them at times. Beautiful souls those creatures had 🥰👌🏼

Nice video. I love the looks of the Scottish Deerhound and Irish Wolfhound. It's nice to learn about them.

My friend’s dad had an Irish wolf hound that was a rescue. He always walked backwards through every doorway for some reason. He also drank out of a huge bucket that sat on a coffee table. I think he was bigger than average, he was much taller than the dogs in this video. He was a good boy!

I love the way these dogs look. Reminds me of dogs we could see back in the dark ages. Plus it’s always a pleasure to get to see the gorgeous Anneka show us these beautiful creatures. 😍👍🤘

I have always wanted an Irish Wolfhound and love seeing our neighbor out with his two. We have adopted retired racing greyhounds for 21 years. The Wolfhound has the sweet, gentle personality of a greyhound but do need good socializations and training due to their size and speed. The only negative of the breed is the shorter life span compared to greyhounds who live (11-13 years). They are prone to Osteo like all large Sighthounds. I just love seeing a huge pack all together like this family! They are so beautiful and so sweet!

many years ago I met my first IW - huge, majestic & the sweetest dog i had ever come across. Am now on my 7th & eighth Wolfhounds and will never be without one. Always get two!

They're really sweet, friendly dogs, but you have to remember that they're big, and very strong. I went up to one at a show and wrapped my arms around his chest from behind. When my hands touched him, he threw his head back to say hello, caught me right under the chin with the knot on the back of his head, and knocked me right out! An indeterminate amount of time later, his handler was saying "Oh my God, are you okay?" I was, but I was in an altered state for a while there! 🙂

I have two. Broke an elbow and a tooth with the other but i LOVE them and now they are super trained. Just as big as they are and when puppies they jump so be careful lol They don't mean to hurt but can.

I babysat an Irish Wolfhound for a weekend. My place was WAY too small so I stayed at his house. My friend had his house renovated and reworked to accommodate Larry and it was perfect for him. Anyways, I loved taking Larry with me whenever I went out because he always drew a crowd and I loved watching peoples reactions when they saw him. I’ll never forget a group of guys we encountered obviously had never seen or heard of an Irish WH and their reactions were the absolute best. They were so funny and just could not get over Larry’s size. (I’m 5’5” and the top of Larry’s back was in line with my waist and the top of his head was in line with my shoulders) We spent almost an hour with them. They all had their pictures taken with him and they adored him. It was such a wonderful experience.

We used to have a few of these breeds walking around in my neighborhood. I live in nyc so it was definitely a shock to see such a large dog. But up close, these dogs really are gentle giants and amazing!

I had one when I was a teenager. I can tell a few things. 1. They are lovely and gentle. 2. When they bark, which luckily does not happen very often, it is like a thunder. 3. They can eat half of my birthday cake in one bite. if you don't watch close.

My grandfather used to have an Irish wolf hound and a great Dane when he was a kid, and for me....I'm happy with my German shepherd Optimus and my corgi moon moon😁💖

I used to own and show at Finnish Spitz many years ago and for some reason they would always put them next to the Irish Wolfhounds, they where so funny to watch next to each other the FS is such a troublemaker and the Wolfhounds give off almost a regal charm to them, you very much got the impression that they put up with them with great sufferance!!!

Banshee, Bailey, Jackson, Tashka, and Bonnie, are the names of all the Irish Wolfhounds we have owned over the last 20 years or so. Banshee lived to be 11, she was the mother of Bonnie and Jack. Bonnie lived to be 10 and Jack lived to be 11 also. Our vet said that was amazing. Tashka is Bonnie's mother. She is also the mother of my daughter's dog Betty. They are dogs like no other, truly like no other dog. As they say, " Gentle when stroked fierce when provoked."

We had two, a sire and a dam, when I was growing up. Absolutely love them! They have such a far-away, old look about the eyes.

They're so adorable. I love their sweet, friendly faces.

I was at the neighbors today and her dad stopped by with his irish wolfhound. I had never seen, or heard of the breed before. What an impressive beast. He was absolutely huge. But what really got my attention was how kind, happy, and gentle he was. Holy smokes he is awesome.

These dogs would live in a 1 bed flat and absolutely thrive as long as they are with you!

I grew up with an IW. She was the sweetest dog! 💕 Her “boss” dog was a dachshund! Those two were quite the pair!! She lived to be 10 which was exceptional for the giant breed.

Your dachshund was a great chillout buddie for the big Girl. Both worlds apart in size but with the same gentle nature. That must have made for some funny moments for sure living with those guys! Cheers.

@@Talos2kX Yup, but the general rule is the larger the dog breed, the shorter the average lifespan, and these are the tallest breed. So they usually don't live very long.

I had an Irish Wolfhound mix. He was absolutely the best! He lived to 15 1/2. How did we get so lucky? Miss him so much! He was very large and very loving.

They’re one of the most lovable and gentle dogs out there for their size. They don’t live very long though. I once saw,while driving,a person jogging about 300 yards in front of me. I thought, as I got closer ,that she was jogging with a pony. As I started to catch up to her,I noticed it was a wolfhound and not a pony. 😅

I am Irish and have seen Wolfhounds on quite a few occasions and there has never been any bother from them, there is even one that lives with his owner near me and he walks him off leash no problem. Like in the video they never have a muzzle and are frequently off leash. They act more like a friendly smaller dog running around the place excited than you would think a dog of that size would be. They do not seem scary at all apart from maybe a little shock at how big they are compared to regular sized dogs. I would be more cautious seeing a German shepherd, rottweiler, pitbull approaching me off leash then I would a wolfhound

@@smelltheglove2038 the neighbors cat, not a good thing, as the neighbors cat is followed by the neighbors gun, unleashed dog with known breed instinct for predatory behavior on specific animals in a specific habitable person area, like suburbs, cities, etc. That being said, the Scottish deerhound, and other hunting dogs can be the same way. I love them all, including birds and fish. What to do, what to do. View and enjoy these videos, and see if someday, can actually have these magnificent beings, and be able to care for them in the ways that reflect them to their inner best, and best life. Not everyone is able to have them in their lives, but for them that do, as these folks, reflecting an actual love for, and the means to have reflect their inner best in a best life for them, is the best way to be a part of enjoying these magnificent beings, while looking them in their eyes as they look into yours. It is said that they look into ones soul, and this seems true as have met two, where live. I will not get them until can look at them back, into their eyes, knowing they are in a place that is the best for them, in care and their safety, for them to have the best. This is a lifetimes partnership. None other will suffice for me. These folk take care, off lead, they care for them.

Hard for us but they are angels and only have to spend a short time here before back to God.

Sou do Brasil e tivemos um lindo Irish em São Paulo.Quando saía na rua todos paravam para ver pois parecia um portinho.Chamava Apolo.

They are my dad's favorite brees of dog and I had two awesome irish wolfhound plushie toys when I was a kid that I played with all of the time, so seeing them is very heartwarming to me :)
