It took me far longer than expected but I am very happy with the result.

Habe mir das BMW i3 Komplett-Set bestellt,alles passt auf Anhieb. BMW i3 Kofferraumerweiterung BMW i3 Frunkdichtung BMW i3 Ladeklappe. Die Sachen waren alle sehr gut beschrieben, das kann selbst ein unerfahrenes Einbauen. Der Versand war sehr schnell, ich kann den Verkäufer nur weiterempfehlen. Dirk.Ben……

I need to see. To be honest I am quite happy with my i3 now. But for such projects I need quite some time and access to the car that I am working with.

I love your i3 modifications! Have you considered sound proofing upgrades?

Thank you for your kind words. I will leave sound proofing to the workshops. You need to tear the car apart quite a bit to get an effect. This would be a litte DIY style.

Can you explain a little bit more what did you use to spray on the towel to clean the hood? Regular disinfectant spray i think i heard you say?

Hi, yes I used a disinfection spray. You can use washing alcohol as well. What works best is acetone but you need to be careful not to get it on the frunk sealing. ;-)

Pretty cool idea. Now if you can find a way to put a roof rack on top of the car? I need to take my i3 to the beach with surfboards & currently there are no options for a surf rack.

This would be a different kind of project. A roof rack would require an official certification and there are no mounting points on the roof or the i3. So the engineering costs would be at least 5 digits and the market is very small. So I will leave that to the roof rack companies ;-)

Hi Björn, da man den Lacknebel auf dem Inneren der Haube entfernen muss, bleiben leichte Spuren erhalten. Da ich schon zwei Rückgaben hatte, kann ich dir aber versichern, dass das niemanden interessiert. Der TÜV / DEKRA Prüfer kontrolliert das Auto von außen auf Schäden, prüft das Vorhandensein der Ausstattung (Reifenraparaturset, Felgen, Ladeziegel, usw. ) und checkt den Innenraum auf Schäden. Daher bekommt das niemand mit. Bei größeren Sorgen, einfach noch etwas mehr Lacknebel entfernen, dann fällt auch das nicht auf. Ist aber etwas mehr Arbeit. Lange Reder kurzer Sinn: Es ist vollständig entfernbar und daher kein Problem.

I just bought a used 2014 i3. I think all years have the same dimensions, but can you please confirm whether this will fit?

Wäre es nicht besser gewesen die Oberseite der Abdeckung 1:1 an die Struktur des Frunkdeckels anzupassen? So hätte man deutlich mehr Auflagefläche, was die Haftung wiederum verbessern würde. Aber ansonsten ein gutes und sinnvolles Produkt 👍🏼

Hi Chris, ich kann dir versichern, dass die Haftung kein Problem ist. Das 3M Klettband klebt extrem gut. Die Kontur der Haube exakt abzunehmen wäre sogar eher ein Problem, denn die Toleranzen für Lage der Funkbox und Einstellung der Haube sind zu groß. Dadurch hätten viele i3 Besitzer enorme Probleme mit dem Einbau oder die Dichtung würde falsch sitzen und damit sinnlos werden. ;-)

I imagine this wouldn't be ideal for those of us who leave the EVSE in the frunk while charging? This is how I charge daily, and surmise the lid would retain too much heat.

I agree. But to be honest I never had such a use in mind. But why do you have to do this? The charger is connected with the type 2 plug and that one is locked while the car is closed.

@@WOKEBY I do it for convenience, because at work it's easy to pull just the charging handle out and a short length of cable to plug in to the car, and only as much extension cord as I need to plug in to the wall receptacle (the rest of the cords remain coiled inside the frunk), and leave the EVSE neatly tucked in the frunk, out of the elements. But I'm also considering cutting some holes in your lid, between the two spars, to let the heat escape. I think that would still keep the frunk mostly clean if I glued some plastic mesh over the holes. BTW did I correctly hear your pronunciation to be "vo-KEY-bee?" Not "woke-bee?"

@@speede541 I would personally never do it this way, as the frunk is not waterproof (hence the need for this product) and is not totally protected from elements. It literally takes me 30 seconds to take out portable EVSE from trunk, plug in both ends, and set under car in case it is raining. Rest of charger is water resistant and designed for outside use. But hey, to each their own! And yes, he pronounces it that way because he is German. Also, this sounds like a good opportunity to see if your work would consider installing an EV charging station, which would be even MORE convenient and less wear and tear on a portable charger which is meant for occasional use! 🤓

I don't have temperature ranges. I intalled my products in all seasons of the year already and as the frunk sealing will remain pressed down after installation I would not worry about it. The only reason the 3M Velcros will fall off is if you don't remove the overspray.

Just stick it up the top of the box , remove sticker , then close. Seems simpler, rest is the same.

The issue with this procedure is: How can you make sure to hit the reinforcing beams with the stickers? The 3M velcro tape sticks like crazy so there is no second chance. My procedure is the safest way of doing it.

yeah, the point is to make absolutely sure that you stick them to the lacer cleaned spots, that's why you need to first stick it on the hood.

There is a button on the remote control that you need to press and hold for about 1 sec. Then the frunk pops open

@@WOKEBY mine opens the trunk :( I had heard they were originally supposed to open the frunk. Which makes much more sense as the whole truck isn’t electric so poping it is really no different than just unlocking the car.

@@1515Steve1515 Really? With my first i3 this key on the key fob was the only way to open the frunk because I did not have the comfort open / close option and therefore no buttons inside the car.

It gives opportunity for people like these to make some money, much like big Cellphone companies don't make case or screen protectors and have you buy 3rd party.

Very nice products, but they are just extremely expensive! You should consider a deal for the set on your website. If you get plastic stamping going i eatern EU or China or similar the prices could be cut in half.

I do not believe the volume of sales would come close to a higher production rate that would be required for the tooling necessary.

I had hoped that your video would help where your written instructions really don’t. Unfortunately you working under a dark hood in bright light results in me not being able to see where you are cleaning or sticking the pads. A work light to illuminate the hood underside would have helped. Or, you could stick the pads on the cover before shipping. PS. The UK parcel delivery service Parcelforce added VAT and a £12 handling charge to an already quite expensive product!

Stop moaning, I am from the UK and managed to follow the instructions and you would have had German VAT deducted from the price listed on their website at checkout, so the price you paid would have been basically the same.

115€ for a piece of abs plastic...

@@ESP4762 €115 is including German VAT which will be deducted for sales to the UK. The increase in shipping costs and customs clearance is obviously not my fault and a result of BREXIT. The original bag BMW offered was "just a bag" and costed more or less the same and BMW had so much fun sellig it that they stopped doing so. So I still don't get your point.
