    Honestly, season two’s extreme deviation from lore, quality storytelling, and character development chased most of us away before Cavill left. I mean, in the books, Yen basically adopts Ciri as a replacement for the kids she’d never be able to birth (a decision that she constantly regrets and tries to “fix”) and goes scorched earth multiple times to protect her. In the show, Yen loses her magic (for some unexplained reason) and spends the second season trying to set up some sort of Ciri sacrifice to gain her powers back. Who in the Hell thought that was a good narrative decision?

    Correction. It isn't the origin of the first witcher. It's what the show runners think was the origin of the first witcher which is why it fits into the lore like a square peg in a round hole. They didn't read the books. Or play the games. Or talk to anyone that knows what a witcher is and when they got hired probably in unison whined about why Geralt isn't gay. This could have been a new game of thrones if they came at it with even a tablespoon of respect for the source material and tried to stick as close as possible to it instead of sidelining the main god damned character to smash the patriarchy.

    In the witcher 3 there was a side quest, where you investigate on a attack of mosters, together with a hunter. If you talk to him, Geralt thinks he's a werewolf, because he lives outside of the village and always keeps distance to it, but the man doesn't really want to talk about it ,but if you pressure him enough he says, that he loves another man and no one shall find out. This had so much more meaning in it just it wasn't shoved down my throat and was a story told realisticly for the time and world, the witcher taking place

    I loved that part. It was actually a main quest in the prologue when you investigate the griffin attacks. And the story is even more depressing because the hunter tells us the man he loved hanged himself when people found out about them, and the hunter went into isolation so he won't be near people any more. A very sad story and the perfect example how can you tell a story well about homosexuality in a medieval like fantasy game. It's like Hollywood has forgotten how to do casting. Peter Jackson got it right when he did LoTR back in the day and that was what made it so amazing. Even the relatively unknown actors were perfectly cast. When you saw Hugo Weaving as an elf who was there three thousand years ago in battle with Sauron, you felt the weight of that moment. You saw the pain behind his eyes. When you saw Viggo Mortenson take up the sword of kings and go to confront the dead you saw a real king rising up to take his place. When you watched Liv Taylor carrying Frodo to safety, you saw a graceful and beautiful elf woman who could also hold her own. It was amazing. And apparently they've forgotten this ancient art.

  • @ezrahinkley6132

    @ezrahinkley6132

    pretty sure Viggo was a recast. They originally had another actor, who was impossible to work with. Like when they shot the hobbits first seeing "strider" in the tavern, viggo had nothing to do with the film. But yeah, I agree, no casting has even come close since then.

    Elves portrayed in this show are so...Human. Elves took pride in their way life. Them being one with the nature. They had a great sense of aesthetics which was evident from the elven ruins we see in the games. They were not the people to live in huge castles. They had a knack for philosophy and sophistication which separated them from humans. In every way possible. Their dress, design of their weapons etc. everything just showed how much they were rooted in their culture and took pride in it. Elves were masterful archers which show clearly decided to omit. The elves in the show look like rag tag band of thugs.

    These shows are in no way part of The Witcher universe or it's lore. The closest it ever got to being anyway connected to The Witcher universe was S1 and even that's pushing it, because it was only the scenes Henry Cavil as Geralt that made me go "yeah this is the Witcher" the rest of S1 was pure ass. I didn't even bother with S2 because the writing was on the wall, not even Henry Cavil could save that mess and it seems he agreed with me and the rest of the real Witcher fans and gtfo before S3 (and was probably contractually tied to S2) wanting no part of continuing to massacre The Witcher universe.

    This intentional shoehorning of diversity and female empowerment across media has had an opposite effect on a lot of people, including me. Ten years ago, when people were tossing around the idea of Idris Elba playing James Bond, I was like, “A smooth, badass British guy? Hell yeah, I can see it.” Now, if they cast a black actor as Bond, I distrust Hollywood’s agenda to such an extent, I wouldn’t be able to help thinking, “A smooth, black British guy? I’m getting worried…” Their relentless insistence that diversity is more important than quality has got me seeing race and gender more than I ever have in the past. It just sucks. Hollywood, you’ve pushed moderate liberals like myself further away with your fanaticism. What if instead of forced diversity, it was forced Christianity. Pretty sure if quality was sacrificed in favor of every character promoting Christianity at every turn, you’d eventually even get some Christians going, “God damn, fuck all this.”

    The writers couldn't have been more blind to their audience. The audience loves the source material since its where the entire story originates. These new writers as we all know hate the source material and seemed to think they could do better than the original author while at the same time making it diverse, woke, and literally embedded with politics. Huge mistake and Hollywood seems to make this mistake over and over. Add that on top of Henry Cavil quitting the show over these very matters and it makes for a disaster of mega proportions.

    A massive difference between showing and not telling would be House of Dragons in comparison to this show. This show uses 4 episodes to squeeze out like a weeks worth of events in which a good portion is said rather than shown. House of Dragons does a lot of showing and manages to squeeze several decades into 10 episodes while making every episode feel like a great movie. You feel engaged, you not only learn about characters but grow fond of them and you just feel yourself slowly slipping into the universe this story is taking place in. hi i’m new here and i rly liked this video. i just watched two commentary videos on this show and got annoyed cause they just complained for 10 minutes but didn’t tell the story or gave examples of why the show is bad. one of them didn’t even show a single scene of the show. so i’m really happy i stumbled upon this! the video was really well made and i love the dad cam btw haha i also just want to see more women in the commentary side of yt cause imo they’re not being hyped enough so I just subscribed and am happy to see more from you! :)

    The potential we’ve could’ve had. Maybe show how the elves got to this world, maybe show the Vran the lizard civilization that was here. More of this world’s original inhabits. Like dopplers, Lutin’s and Godlings. Or maybe the actually origin of Ciri , Lara Dorren and why some love and respect her and why others hate her. Maybe show why the elves that came here broke up into two clans in the first place. But nah we just get a kinda shit original story.

    I’ve played the games and watched the first two seasons. They should have done the origin like a horror story where humans are dying in droves by monsters, then mages and knights form the. First children Witcher’s through cruel experiments and hard trainings. The story would then follow those young ones slaying monsters only to end with them establishing the different Witcher school.

I decided that cleaning out the catbastards litterbox, folding clean socks and taking out the trash before bed was more important. Never finished it. I felt I was watching some Uwe Boll version.
