He's explaining thug life and the detrimental things some Black males do to each other. Some want to be gangster, some don't. I grew up in the hood in the 60s and 70s and watched the neighborhood spiral out of control largely due to male bravado and a penchant for them wanting to prove they were tough. Men don't have to prove squat. You're either a man or you're not. Ignorant bravado is destroying Black lives and communities. Stubborn resistance to changing and believing it can't be changed is killing us more often than not. Change requires work, unity, and commitment. Destroying communities and lives means you're a child, so does expecting others to fix our self-created problems. We're either for our race, community, and future or against them. We reap what we sow.

I remember how controversial he was. butpeople didn’t get was that he grew up at the worst of the gang life and when your an artist you take from your life. So he was just telling it like it was. Could I relate , no. But I could empathize and learn.

When Bob Marley got shot it shook him like “wow these people tried to kill me.” It never left him. It’s a different kind of feeling when someone tries to kill you in real life and you just happen to survive. It’s not necessarily that he (edit: Pac) knew he was going to die in a way like he was psychic. Anyone that’s almost been killed feels they’re on borrowed time. It’s a reverberation that doesn’t leave you. You’re left forever shaken and paranoid.

@@MaryLou913 Deep is subjective even in The Rap Game, I have come to realise as an adult. It's even more shocking to see people you fight for try and extinguish you. I feel it everyday, I understand the horror of it and the anger that might elicit, but if you dig deeper they know no better. It's the 'know better' that you have to fight for, for all, not just your own. Study Tupac, I have for years and tell me I am wrong.

The song was also a question to people in thug life, asking were they gonna ride or die. Pac was loyal. In the end he learned he was more loyal to many thugs and Black people than many were to him. The way he lyricized his pain and every day life was creatively amazing. He was a visionary and poetic young prophet. The Black Panther roots he inherited from his parents and his sincerity, passion, and spirit course through his lyrics. He's forever with us - intentionally. He takes people on a journey from the beginning of the song to the end. He states in the opening "FEEL ME," and meant it. We do, still to this day. That's raw focused spirit. He was a gift and a young King in a land full of thieves. Gone too soon.👑💪🏾💯🙏🏾

Thereafter, he was on assistance & was finally taken off support on September 13, 1996. A time we never forget. FYI - APB = All Points Bulletin. It's basically a 'everyone pay attention, suspect(s) at large and everyone is expected to be on alert for them.' This is typical when a major crime is in progress, suspects are fleeing scene, or a fugitive/suspect has been spotted somewhere and is high priority, etc.

For me, the line that captures his career, the rise and the end, is when he says, " Picture paragraphs unloaded, wise words bein' quoted Peeped the weakness in the rap game and sewed it Bow down, pray to God, hopin' that he's listenin' Seein' niggas comin' for me through my diamonds when they glistenin' Now pay attention: bless me please, Father, I'm a ghost In these killing fields, Hail Mary, catch me if I go"........MAN!!! especially the part about he peeped the weakness in the rap game and sewed it....smh...

Truth, he was a lyrical genius. Hail Mary is a call to God, thugs, fans, the whole nine. It graphically and intensely paints a picture of what he was going through. In the end it took him out.

This song came out when I was 9 and I used to run out the room when I heard it. It used to scare me so bad especially because it wasn’t long after he passed that this was released. It still sounds haunting to this day.

Before this album came out, death row didn't know which song was gonna promote the album. They assumed it was gonna be Toss it up or to live and die in LA, but this was the song that made everyone buy the album.

I remember when I use to listen to Pac on my Walkman at work lol that was b4 CDs players. Everybody had a Walkman and a 2Pac cassette and if u didn't have u would record the whole tape from one of ur friends in ur double cassette boombox. We had to put paper in the holes of our cassettes to record it yes those were the great ole days.

Everything PAC said is understood to everyone in my age range because we lived that and experienced that. We was told in my era we would never hit 18 or 21 we was told that we was endangered species as Black teenagers. Go find some OG 70’s or 80’s born street or hood Brothas they will explain to you everything he said we all actually lived it.

Not sure where you guys are from homie. But 2 pac is considered GOD tier on the West Coast homie! I’m glad you guy got a chance to really hear his music. He’s one of the rare rappers that are universally recognized and praised. His music puts you in an entire mood. Can’t front back in the day, in my younger ways I would zone out to PAC just before I roll up and whoop somebodies a$$. Hail Mary or Ambition of a Ridah had a brotha on one. His intelligent, Black Panther ish side had me thinking another way as well. (Hear Souljahs Revenge) - an older song.
