Wow this provides great historical context! We always think we're different from the past but watching this I realized we haven't changed behaviors socially at all! Maybe some technologies change but that's it! I wish video went back 200 years!

Yep. We all love thinking the times we grew up in as kids were great and everything is bad now, but really the times as kids were good only _because_ we were kids.

That all-time record low of 23 below would hold for just a few more years. I recall that it was 26 below in January 1982 and 27 below in January 1985.

Despite living near Baltimore which has had so much political corruption, it seems Chicago politics back in the 70s was on another level. That's what it seems when I watch these old newscasts.

Who would've been the weekend anchors on WNBC Channel 4's "NewsCenter4" as of 1979? I know the prior year, two of them - not anchoring together, of course - would have been Pia Lindstrom and Jack Cafferty. WNBC was an absolute mess at this point, trying out numerous anchor combos on weekdays and going nowhere (with Chuck Scarborough holding the fort in one way or another at 6, and definitely at 11).

One NBC O&O I know of that did NOT use this theme (by Michael Randall) was WNBC Channel 4 in New York. They had two different themes after ditching Fred Weinberg's "NBC TV-Radio Newspulse" before unveiling Edd Kalehoff's themes for "News 4 New York" that was unveiled in 1980.

Just listen to Jayne Byrne and the topic, you would never hear Lightfoot ever talk about such, only racism and that’s about all.
