Why didn't you talk about the final scene of the film? It's really important imo. The viewers who were spellbound by Truman's escape immediately return to their daily lives in complete apathy. I purposefully tied it into Platos allegory of the cave (which made it academic), and there were other deep philosophical points that you pretty much touched on in this video. Just because you don’t deal with this movie in a way the majority would does not mean everyone else should stop and cater to what is best for you. That’s not how reality works. If they’ve been able to do it this far without any major issues or complaints, it’s not up to you to dictate whether they should continue or not. Your comment is the perfect example to sum up the issue right now (did you even watch the video?). You have serious “main character” vibes, meaning “I don’t like this movie and don’t deal with it well because of X/Y/Z personal issue, therefor everyone else needs to respect that and always keep me in mind when it comes to such. I was watching the Truman show many years ago with my brother. he turned to me and asked don't you think Truman would have noticed a lot earlier, considering all the weird cover-ups that had to happen when things went wrong? A lot of strange things happen in our world. A lot of people would prefer to ignore them, as they intuitively know that pulling on any thread might leave that cloth in tatters. however, it seems many have a point where they can't pretend any longer, and we've seen that over the last two years

I watched the movie for the first time very recently. The final scene impacted me so much for the rest of that day. The fact that the entire audience who's watched him for years in a instance went to find something else to watch drew so many parallels to the modern day. I remember almost nobody "got" this movie when it came out, it was just way ahead of it's time, most people didn't understand it's message. Then a few years later we got Big Brother, people became obsessed watching people stuck in a house all day forced to interact with other people until they mentally cracked, which then evolved into reality TV which was super fake but had insane obsessive fans. Now we are all being surveyed, watched, censored and controlled even if we don't want to be. It's quite shocking how much we've gained technologically and lost in privacy in 20 years.

But MTV did the first reality tv show in the US (that im familiar with) in 1992 called The Real World! Likely same premise. That was years before The Truman Show. And i remember as it was coming out being told that this was the wave of the future in tv programming, and that this sort of thing had already been very popular in Europe for awhile!

The upsetting part is they don't even need to survey or control anyone. People seem to be so stupid and dense that there doesn't need to be an army of paid actors forcing you away from revealing any truths. I wouldn't begin to know the truths anyway, All I could ever say to anyone is just keep your eyes open and pay attention because it's very much about your own personal view of what's weird and you can't force people to think stuff.

In contrary to the film lots of what is taught and said is not completly wrong. There is often a true core to it what gets deceived and missused to manipulate and control people. Also there always exist people who truely want to think critical and want to motivate others to do so too. The problem with the human brain and mind is that once something is assumed to be true it is exrtemly hard (for many impossible) to chamge that impression/mindset/idea. It is not easy to distance yurself from your own feelings and ideas.

I watched the movie when I was a child and never watched it again because I didn't think much of it back then, but now after seeing your video more than 10 years later, I feel a strong connection to Truman's character and am aware of how we are all trapped in this miserable, manipulative world. We need to escape as well, this WEF "future" they are trying to sell us "as a good thing", will be the end of what makes us human. This can't be allowed to happen. Humanity deserves better, we aren't soulless robots with only the purpose to function. Thanks for this video Moon, I haven't been this emotional for a long time.

You phone spies on you, Google spies on you, Facebook spies on you, your Alexa spies on you, you GOVERNMENT spies on you, and the media feeds you things to make you lean and think a certain way. The only way to fix it is to go outside! I find that often what the media and the government is saying isn't what's actually happening when I go outside and talk to people. But what do I know? What i got from this movie that i only realized many years after watching is that we really are in a temporary "movie" or a play if thats what you want to call it. I've come to realize that as I've become more in tune with my own soul and identity. Every person in your life is there to play a part no matter how small. Our souls have chosen this temporary body to experience this physical life, if only for a chance to learn and grow in wisdom. The reason why we are here is for self-discovery, to give and show love, to realize we are one with everything, and at the end of it reunite our essence or energy with our real home..a place where all souls live..only to do it all over again when we are ready for another life.

Jim Carrey did so good in this movie, because he usually does the more comedic roles like in Dumb and Dumber or Ace Ventura, but in this movie he was very good at acting scared because of what he felt wasn't real and felt relieved when he could finally leave the set of the world he thought was real, it was amazing how an actor who is known for very goofy roles, to play a role that yes was funny at times, but was also serious pretty much showing the true harsh reality of child actors who their entire lives had to be stared in movies and TV shows instead of having a proper childhood and life which affects them into adulthood. Truman show is without a doubt one of the realest movies you can watch.

The Truman show is a metaphor for spiritual awakening or enlightenment, right down to his “ascension” up the staircase. The world he lives in is entirely dependent on him. Similarly, how we perceive our world is entirely dependent upon us. We live in our own Truman shows in our own minds. For the awakened. Events in the world aren’t something to be feared, they are a product of our collective fears. The only way to escape is seek truth within oneself. The external finite world will never bring you peace and lasting happiness but you can bring peace and happiness to the world. We should focus on our own awakening, which is not the same thing as being “woke”. Being aware of unjust institutions isn’t enough, you have to go deep and see that even our perceptions of these injustices are an illusion. Truman had to turn away from his entire perceivable world and trust his inner knowing in order to escape. Facing and pushing through the fears that kept him trapped there (dark night of the soul) and finally he was free. Christof doesn’t so much represent a tyrannical government but Trumans ego. He’s the fake god. He thinks he is in control but without Truman he is nothing. He wants to keep Truman subjugated for his own existence. He tries to convince Truman that everything he’s created for Truman is for Truman but really it only exists to preserve himself and his position as the ultimate force in the whole Truman enterprise. Letting go of the belief that there is a force greater than oneself such as our governments is one of the greatest hurdles to freedom. The government is our creation. We are responsible. There is nobody else.

It is only us, and each of us must face this same problem: our ego, our truth, looking past the society created by our fears, and breaking through to whatever is beyond - like Truman walking up the stairs. Even if it might be just another version (as in the final scene), we won't know until we break through.

I think the part where Kristof talks about how Truman himself is the driving force of the show is important as well. The "viewers" and us as the movie viewers both want Truman to do well, but the fictional viewers believe that him doing well is to continue his fictional existence while we as viewers of the movie believe that the best thing is for him to figure out what is going on and get out. This is showing how people on the inside of a manipulative system can truly believe that it is in the best interest of the person to remain in that manipulative system, while people on the outside completely and genuinely believe that they need to escape the manipulation.

This is the PERFECT example of hermit people who view society as a prison, and escapes from it, once and for all, those are the 2nd path people, and I BEG myself to be like them one day, when I’m through making my story.

I did NOT watch the movie when it came out! I was pretty done with Jim Carrey at that point, so anything he did just repelled me. Now that I have watched it recently, and look back, it looks quite prophetic! Somebody 'knew' and was trying to inform us of what was to come. And with all the incredible amount of change that happened in 20 years, to be so accurate on so many pivotal details seems eerie!
