The Beautiful Music Format needs to return to the FM Dial especially in these stressful times we live in now. The Focus Groups and Radio Corporations are against Stress Busting Music.

Which is why I turn to listen to lofi music streams here on KZread. Lately I find Beautiful Music just as relaxing to listen to, but I first heard these orchestral versions of contemporary songs from an FM radio station which has switched to a vintage pop & rock format since 2016.

Philavideo thank you for this Beautiful music Station to listen to. I get go to each one I can find on your sites. YOU BE WELL!

Wow. This is great stuff. This was the time when there was at least one other radio station in Connecticut with the beautiful music/easy listening format. Magic 104 WIOF I believe was another? Every time I’d visit my grandparents’ house, they always had this on the radio on the kitchen table.

As far as I recall w i o f was country and western during the early 1970s.

In my experience, it is rare than a DJ on an easy listening station provides playlist details! Very interesting!

I just stumbled upon this, but am always amazed you received FM signals from so far away, (AM being another story). I mean, I can't recall ever hearing New York City or even central New Jersey FM broadcasts where I live just north of Philadelphia. I thought FM signals just couldn't travel that long a distance, especially back in the days of lower-wattage FM stations. (The music sounds so outdated for 1982 - I forget how Beautiful Music formats remained common in the early 1980s, but their days definitely were numbered.)

It's pretty cool when a distant FM station comes in. I've been having that happen a lot more with my Crosley radio lately. I'm in the southern part of the Detroit area, and I can regularly hear 90.3 from Cleveland with only mild static! Lovely station, too. Great classical music selection.

I never got an FM signal from far away, but I got WOWO-AM in South Bend, Indiana from northern New Jersey.

@@stevenmaginnis1965 I used to hear WOWO at night on my radio in southwestern Virginia in the late '80s and in the Philadelphia area in the early '90s when it was broadcasting AM stereo. They had a great high-energy AM oldies format at the time music from the late '60s and early '70s was starting to be included!

95.7 became top 40 station not too long after this .. Also, the picture is in Meriden, it's called Castle Craig.

‘84 it became top 40 KISSFM, Jeremy Savage, Kathy Fox “The Fox That Rocks” were two of its popular DJs. I remember finding this in the early 70s while spinning the dial looking for a station. I wondered who would listen to this stuff. Now that I’m old, it doesn’t sound all that bad.

that first track!! been looking for it FOREVER.. John fox - warsaw concerto.. wish I knew where i can find it! I had it on a set of bonneville reel to reel tapes however the tape broke and got mangled in that track...

We had this and we also had wwyz at 92.5. They had some strange ways of announcing their station when they first went on the air and then the following year they had Tony Marvin as their announcer and it was pretty interesting.

I get WKSS pretty nicely from my house, 46.2 miles away.

Good Lord. A radio format from the past. That Odd Couple theme is absolutely hilarious. Also, notice how the station ID was always rounded up to the next number in those days .. They would never say 95.7. It wasn't until the 90s when car radio started getting those digital readouts did we hear the stations start to say 95.7, 100.5, Etc. By the way, there were three easy-listening stations in the Hartford Market at that time . they were, WRCH 100.5, or Lite 100 as it was called, then you had WIOF magic 104 and of course this one... 96 WKSS or KISS FM.

Youe mention of WSHH reminds me. About 10 or 12 years ago. I was running a public radio station. We were unique, though, because we played a hybrid of this format. An older gentleman came to the station one day. He introduced himself as Andy (his last name escapes me now), but I had heard my father, a local radio veteran mention his name. He got his start in the 50s where I got mine in the 80s, a local AM station, WCBT in Roanoke Rapids, NC. We had great local radio in this small town well up into the 80s. Many locals, who got their start at one of our local stations made it big in Top 40 radio in big cities. Andy made it to the big market radio scene, but not in Top 40, but the also-flourisghing radio format, Beautiful Music/Easy Listening. These stations shared the top spots on ratings surveys. Andy worked at B/EZ stations on medium and large markets. He spent many years as an the mid-day or afternoon drive host on WSHH. He came to offer his help, so we had him do some voice work for our local public radio station with the B/EZ. He volunteered his time in retirement because he loved this kind of radio and a station in his hometown bwas paying homage to it. I always thought it was cool this a local retired veteran of B/EZ radio and spent years on-air at a successful, well-programmed and imaging of a station like WSHH.

I have aircheck from wwsw am 970, fm 94.5 from may 1st. 1960 ! I have one from I think wpnt it was recorded at 1 7|8 ips I don't have a tape player with that speed 1 7|8 ips just 3 3/4 , 7 1/2 and 15 ips

I used to listen to 2ch in Sydney who played the same type of music. Now they play pop music. Needless to say I stopped listening way back then.

Whose orchestra is playing 'Mona Lisa' at 6:32, please?

DZMB... that's 90.7 FM Love Radio (Manila). Was this their format before the noisy cacophony they are now?
