The Avro Lancaster is a British Second World War heavy bomber. It was designed and manufactured by Avro as a contemporary of the Handley Page Halifax, both bombers having been developed to the same specification, as well as the Short Stirling, all three aircraft being four-engined heavy bombers adopted by the Royal Air Force (RAF) during the same wartime era.
In 1943 the Lancaster was part of a raid over the ruhr area with the aim of suppressing the region's industrial output. A lot of civilian were terrorized both by the nazis and the bombing. So were part of my family who died during the bombing of Duisburg. The Lancaster project is some kind of process of coming to terms with the past. It was important to defeat the nazi terror regime but as in all wars the civilian losses were pure tragedy.
My good friend Erick Miotke put these thoughts into his fantastic composition which supports the animation in an impressive way.
Music: "warmachine contradiction" from Erick Miotke
Here's what he says to his composition: "the track for tom's lancaster model and film is to be understood as a nod to the heroic pilots of these warmachines, just as to the civilians who experienced the hell unleashed on them in the german city targets. it is a contradiction expressed in the two different parts in the track. heaven and hell. with a painful but peaceful ending."
The fantastic kit from Border Model (Molds were developed by Wingnut Wings) in 1/32 is distributed by Modelbau Koenig. www.modellbau-koenig.de
A special thanks goes to Thomas Hartwig and Christian Schiller for their support during the assembling process.

Man...if there were oscars for modelling videos, this would win best film and best director....a truly unique take of a build. If Border Models don't use this and you as promotion then they ain't worth the effort you put in....

Stunning stop action production. Well done. I’m building a Lancaster in memory of my dad who flew 32 missions as an m/u gunner with 101 Sqn over the March-September 1944 period. I’m showing my grandkids what their great grandfather did in WW2.
Simply stunning, the combination of a beautiful build, amazing video and superb music. I think I have watched it three times already. Looking forward to the diorama

I've been waiting for this Lancaster video for awhile now. It's outstanding, Tom. Please extend my congratulations and gratitude to the music composer as well. The whole package makes the years fall away to 1942 and turns what you've done into an experience not easily forgotten. Cheers.

This is the most incredible video you have ever made and I have ever seen. The detail in this scale is rarely captured but you made it real. One detail I'll bet your viewers missed is the Lancaster is the only bomber in WW2 to have a " loo", British for bath room. You actually caught it as the scale is big enough to put it in. I put this video up on my big screen TV, and it was incredible. Now if only I could build like this. That kit is almost a 6 month build easy. While many model builder videos talk over their building, this style is great " Just show me the model" :-) Congratulations and Thanks.
Without a doubt, the best modelling video I have ever seen . Simply superb. 👍

It's a shame that the interior of the plane can't be exposed to show that great detail. What a beautiful build!!!!
You've got a nice set of skills
I’m not sure which is more impressive, your build and finish or the of quality of your video production. Your filming and editing are just so damned clean! I can’t even fathom how long it must take to perform these stop-motion builds but the end results are just as worthy of museum display as the subjects. Thank you for continuing to offer some of the best viewing anywhere.

When watching your videos, Im always fascinated by the fact that you are so determined to make a great video using so many images. I can imagine it slows the build down heavily, and you gotta think out what looks good for the sake of it looking logical! You have a great combination of many talents, which come together in these videos! great man!!
