    Are you a drummer you self? Because one reactor said that junna did lot rim hits in Through the Flames one.(TTAF) And all else that are drummers didn't mention that all, so was wondering if that guy(can't remember the reaction ch name) it had a Indian looking fella with him. 🇮🇳 He thinks he's funny, but he's just a clown. I've seen him play some instruments and he's okay, but not amazing. So thought maybe they were just jealous.

    Another thing these awesome Japanese Girl Drummers are ALL experts at is setting up and tuning their kits to match the song(s)/genre they are playing. As well as selection of the proper equipment for what they are playing. They have better ears and feel than many (other) professionals.

  • @riffgroove

    @riffgroove

    3 жыл бұрын

    That's not necessarily true. It's not that they're genetically gifted to be better drummers or musically superior in any way. They aren't. But there is a cultural mindset among the Japanese in general that says "If you're going to do something, be as good at it as possible." The Japanese as a race don't do anything "half-assed."

  • @Glen.Black.

    @Glen.Black.

    3 жыл бұрын

    @@riffgroove I didn't mention genetically gifted. I said they are experts in setting up and tuning, and in the selection of proper equipment and they have better ears and feel. All of these things can be, and probably are, a result of, like you said the Japanese cultural mindset. I agree with all that. Now as far as Yoyoka goes, however, I do believe she is gifted. She was directing band members how to play a song better when she was 4. Originally she did not read music and still barely does. She listens to a song twice then plays it (at age 10-11), a difficult song 4-5 times. These types of things are not a part of the cultural mindset, although she certainly possess that, in addition to, her natural ability to play the drums. Also, she makes almost every song she plays better than the original by adding the "Yoyoka Effect", another example of her natural talent.

    There are many great drummers out of Japan but I am not sure that there are any who are as happy and animated playing as Junno!! Her and Haruna(Lovebites) are a pair of dynamos I really enjoy but then again all of them are insanely talented: Marina - Aldious, Natsumi - Bridear, Mari - Mary's Blood, Nagisa - Trident, Haruka - Fate Gear, Suzuki - Scandal, Hirose - Band Maid, Tsunoda - Show Ya, Yuri - Gacharic Spin, Kanako - Hagane, Tamu - Nemophila, and so many others including some of the best Jazz drummers out there like Sato and Kawaguchi which might be the best technical ones playing today.

    Greetings Nick. I really enjoyed this video, your analysis and suggestions. JUNNA is amazing and an inspiration in many ways. The original DF "Through the Fire and Flames" had ZP Theart on vocals and in March 2011 DF brought in Marc Hudson. June 2014 saw the departure of Dave Mackintosh with Gee Anzalone taking over on the kit. "Ashes of the Dawn" was released in May 2017 so it has the 'new lineup' though was written by major song contributor Frédéric Leclercq - bass, guitars, backing vocals, who left the band at the end of 2019. They have a tentative replacement of Alicia Vigil on bass. I am quite curious about pedal spring tension. I have mine set as tight as they will go and kinda want to try more tension. My hands and feet are much too interconnected, still, with my left foot (I play right handed. Left-hand on snare, right on hi-hat & cymbals mostly except for fills) and inadvertently match my pedal work to my left-hand 'unconscious-ghost-notes'. Changing or stopping my left hand throws my feet out of whack. (?) I am working on changing that, but have no particular method to do so. Thanks again, I really appreciate your videos, and playing along on the live-streams, AND your LOVEBITES drum cover! Of course. That is who I 'play along' with mostly, to get my 'chops' up, improvising rather than 'duplicate' (beyond my current skill level).

    A lot lot more is happening here than meets the eye, Junna (of course) makes it look effortless and second nature, not only is her timing tight on a faster bpm track but she is moving her head side to side making faces and doing exaggerated fun arm and body movements and the occasional stick trick that is not in time with her drums (out of sink body?) . Most drummers can only do this on much slower songs, high energy high bpm semi complicated songs and drummers are glued to the kit, to most it seems like she is just having fun but in reality she is actually playing 2 instruments her drums and her body this shit is Hard as F and next level

  • @MrDarkweaver

    Hiya :) I know how to play the drums, but I am by no stretch of the imagination a drummer, but I also studied Kendo as a martial art for over 10 years. In Kendo one of the first principles you are taught is to practise until your sword becomes no sword. I didn't understand that properly for about 4 years, until I was doing kata one day, and suddenly instead of moving from position to position, I was flowing through them. I think that's what your talking about when you are talking about muscle memory and practise. If you do something enough times, with enough precision, after a period of time there is no conscious thought put into that particular thing, you can just do it without thinking, and by pure feel. Studies have shown that if you spend 700 hours practising anything you will become at the very least competent at it if not good, and if you spend 7,000 hours practising anything you will master it in terms of technical ability, so there is hope for me yet :) Really enjoyed both your reactions to Junna :)

    Yeah absolutely, I'd love to help. I've found, I had a similar issue having not played toe down drum beats in a while. I switched to heel-toe technique due to arthritis in my ankles but now that I'm back I've come up with a few great exercises to compensate. 1. try finding the fulcrum point on your bass pedal that takes the LEAST amount of force to push down, and practice inthat 1 spot over n over, working on the single strike. For some reason if you practice slow n build up your body remembers it like 1000x easier and the practice becomes far shorter. 2. another great exercise is stretching your feet and toes believe it or not, you might not be as loose as you need to be which would cause tension in your playing which obv would cause you to almost 'fight' the notes as your playing them instead of being loose n going with the flow. :"D
