This is young Sharon I actually like her performance of this song at the 2008 1 off show with a full orchestra and choir... called BLACK SYMPHONY Performed in Rotterdam.. Check it out 22 fantastic songs.

I've known this band for 27 years(yes, I'm old) I've seen then 14 times, Sharon blows me away every single time, and she is gorgeous and a really nice lady!

I grew up in the Golden Age of rock and roll. Like the band she sings in, Sharon den Adel is one of the most under rated singers around. Within Temptation completely changed my mind about today's rock/metal bands. Promise is a bit of a hangover from their gothic metal days. Later albums defined symphonic metal for many and today, they are experimenting with new sounds and lyrics. Never a disappointing moment listening to this band...

Epic performance ♡

Within Temptation is a Dutch symphonic metal band formed in 1996 by lead singer Sharon Den Adel and guitarist Robert Westerholt. They are generally not quite as heavy as Nightwish or EPICA and they will use more styles and genres than either of those 2 as well. This song is from their second album, Mother Earth. Ice Queen also from this record is my favorite of theirs. They are still active today with 7 albums released so far, and 4 songs more singles released since 2020 , possibly to be included on a future 8th album.

Great reaction! It always makes me very happy when someone discovers Within Temptation! There is an even more amazing version of this song from their 2008 Black Symphony concert. Aw omg you were literally tearing up hearing this!!! 🥺💕 Sharon den Adel really does have one of the most gorgeous, angelic voices on the planet. She’s incredibly empathetic and has a wonderful gift for metaphor and it really shows through their lyrics, which she writes the majority of. And this performance is from the EARLY years-there is such an incredible journey ahead of you with their discography. I’d recommend diving into the Black Symphony concert, which features songs from their first three albums (this song was on the first one). Especially, The Truth Beneath the Rose and Somewhere.

Hi Pandora, so you have now experienced the trifecta of Symphonic Metal, Nightwish, Epica and Within Temptation are the top three Symphonic Metal bands in the world in my opinion, although Kamelot also kind of fit into this category and they are incredible, so maybe four top bands :). Within Temptation were formed around the same time as Nightwish in 1996, created by Sharon den Adel and her husband guitarist Robert Westerholt, Robert is the bald fella playing the black flying V guitar, another fantastic Symphonic Metal band, another rabbit hole to investigate, so much great music :)

Geeezum... this was about 20 yrs ago.. Beautiful Sharon was like 28 here... Sexy face then, sexy face now still !!!!!! And still delivering better than EVER !!!! Their videos are always insane detailed and illuminating..... The lyrics are always sending a message or telling a story or making you feel the empathy or giving you energy..... They have been diverse for the past 25 years. And like most, I am in love with Sharon and her voice.

I saw them three times in the early 2000s, great band! By now you should know that The Netherlands are basically the absolute paradise when it comes to female fronted metal bands ;-) Not sure if you already checked out The Gathering, basically the mother of all dutch female fronted bands. A less well known dutch band is Autumn - I discovered them as opening act on the first Within Temptation concert. Nienke de Jong was their singer until 2008 and I do believe she has a phenomenal voice. This is my whole time favorite song and the song why I love WT. I hear it by the first time back in 2001 I was a child back then and my cousin took me to their concert as my birthday gift xD I highly recomend the 2008 version of this song played in Black Symphony DVD as well.

Hi! I like WT! The best WT live perfornance is for me the "Black Symphony" live show they did some years ago. I would say it's their best live show, what for Nightwish is the "Wacken '13" conzert or for Epica the "Epica - Omega Alive" show. The first 2 WT songs i hear from them were "Mother earth" and "Ice Queen".

They started about the same time as Nightwish, back in 1996, and those were the 2 bands who really also started the whole symhonic metal genre. Other than Nightwish, Within Temptation have still their first singer, Sharon den Adel, until today. Sharon however is not classical trained but still has just an incredible voice. There are so many great songs. Personally i really would like to see somebody react to "Frozen" because of the dark story it tells. For that however the music video is also better than a live version. Else "And we run ft. XZibit" is really great, also video because of the great visuals, and normally i really hate rap, but this is the only song where a rapper is involved that i really love. Then "Paradise (what about us) ft. Tarja" also a great song with the first Nightwish singer Tarja. Video also tells a nice story playing in postapocaliptic world, but there is also a great live version.

Oh yes the Frozen music video is heartbreaking!

As you already know,im a biased Floor-a-holic,but Sharon has taken a solid grasp around me over the years as well. And the biggest funfact about Sharon is that she has never taken song lessons,she is completely self taught. You wont believe it the more you listen to them (i still dont understand how its possible lol) She does have 1 thing in common with Floor though,they are both Dutch. (Oh and i think Nightwish even asked her to audition/join them at one point after Tarja left,but Sharon declined the offer) 7:56 thats her "Hubby"/boyfriend Robert Westerholt,who is also the big brother of Delain keyboardist and founder Martijn Westerholt (Martijn used to be together in Within Temptation with Robert and Sharon as part of the original lineup,but he sadly had to temporary retire due to sickness/health issues)
