Within Temptation collaborated with Metal legend Howard Jones (Ex-Killswitch Engage) for the second single of their upcoming album 'Hydra'.
'Dangerous' is one of the album's heaviest tracks. Howard Jones' epic vocals are a perfect fit for Sharon's. "I always loved Howard's voice," she says. "He makes the song even heavier than it already is. That song is one of my favorite songs on the record and one of the fastest we've ever written. It has the most bass drums we've ever used, too, and a very fast riff which we doubled with synths. It's not a typical synthesizer, though -- it's distorted like a guitar, and it's very aggressive."

    I agree but there are too many others that collaboratively speaking should have the opportunity to click with Sharon artistically on all levels. I don't envy anyone in the position to acknowledge and present the opportunity from the current endless variants of combinational furious talent that potentially are a given like lock and key= rock with me. Then wishes be sought to see, ever closer akin a Temptation Within.

    His work with his new band, Devil You Know, is amazing. Their first album was pretty good but on their newest album, They Bleed Red, Howard's vocal performance rivaled that of As Daylight Dies.

    Steven Herrera Nothing, but you can hear the wear and tear he put on his voice on that one. As Daylight Dies is my all-time favorite work of his, but They Bleed Red came REALLY close vocally.

  • @jakobfel2

    @jakobfel2

    8 жыл бұрын

    Steven Herrera Oh, definitely. I've found his three albums feel like an interlacing, massive concept album in which he goes from being more or less indifferent to others' suffering, towards realizing how corrupt the world is (The End of Heartache), then realizing that he has a responsibility to fight that corruption, while struggling with an emptiness inside (As Daylight Dies), and finally he realizes that such an emptiness cannot be filled by any worldly desires and that he has to look beyond humanity for answers (KSE2). I interpret the story as him having a religious background, walking away from that while still believing in a God, then finally realizing that Christ was there the whole way (particularly evident in songs like Save Me). I might be wrong on that but the albums' lyrics almost depict a spiritual journey ending in salvation.

  • @jakobfel2

    @jakobfel2

    Steven Herrera Yeah, They Bleed Red seems to be a lot more focused on personal concepts, struggles, and faith rather than the heartbreak and such that he intertwined in older works.

    I don't care what people say. Within Temptation is one of the best bands we've got around. Not only are they consistent, they're consistent in a way that doesn't keep you bored with the same material over and over again. They've got symphonic metal, metal, grunt songs, hard rock, heavy metal and it's just such a wide variety of songs! Yeah, there are people saying that they're going too mainstream, but who cares? The music's still great! Have you HEARD the Paradise EP? That was perfect! You could still hear their symphonic elements even though it wasn't really symphonic. And when you've got Tarja on a song with Sharon - WOW. Just waiting for them to collab with Amy Lee and Simone Simons. I love you guys forEVER. #WT .

    There's a difference between experimenting with genres and ideas, and just making your music simpler and 'poppier'. Decent stuff still, but I hope they don't go the route of Evanescence. After Ben Moody left, that band has been forgettable. And I own every CD they've released. I'm not sure I will in the future be buying anymore though from them. Good tune though from WT. Even if Howard sounds somewhat odd harmonizing with Sharon.

  • @W1ckedAng3l

    @W1ckedAng3l

    10 жыл бұрын

    Sorry, I don't really agree with you. Just because they're experimenting with "poppier" sounds that doesn't mean that their overall sound is going to become "simpler" and stay that way. You don't know what the future holds and if they're going to keep these sounds or not. As for Evanescence, I feel like they did just fine after Moody left. I wasn't really a fan of Ben Moody. I do like Evanescence's older stuff, but I believe that The Open Door was a masterpiece. Ben Moody played no part in The Open Door since he was already gone. Evanescence's most recent album was very...meh though. I'll admit I didn't like that album, but that was after Evanescence lost Rocky Gray (their drummer) and another person or two.

  • @adalvarthepeaceful

    ***** Well for the first part i agree with you...WT is showing itself as a very experimental band...and i wouldn't consider them "poppier"...that would also imply they are gaining more exposure/going into mainstream attention, which, despite their growing and loving fanbase, isn't true. But the final point here is...it's not so much the genre or the experimentation that counts, its their execution...if they can pull of a high quality work like they have until now, i'm fine with it. In regards with Evanescence, truth be told, they never came off the sucess of their 1st album and Moody's departure...too many band changes, style changes and not all good...and they lost quality, a lot of it...which was a shame in the end.

    People don't understand that pop isn't an actual genre. Pop music is always changing. Rock used to be pop. Now it's not because other genres are more popular. It's as if "pop" stands for "popular" or something.

    Aeghamedic I know this comment is old, but whatever. Unfortunately your logic is flawed. It's entirely true that Pop originated as a shorthand for any popular music. But it has since grown its own stylistic feel. It now stands more for 'music with an easily consumable style that focuses on mass appeal'. This is similar to how Classical doesn't simply stand for 'classic music' anymore, but rather stands for 'music with a style akin to a specific set of classic musicians'. Both have their own stylistic cues that change over time. That's why your logic doesn't work is because no genre stays exactly the same. Rock from the days when it was called Pop is nothing like Rock today. Metal today isn't anything like Metal from the 80's, nor is Rap, or R&B, etc. Going by your logic, we've been calling every genre the wrong thing for a long time, because they've all long since changed into something completely different. The fact is, music changes. Every genre is nothing more than shorthand for the current sound encapsulated within; Pop is no different.

    Yes, but your definition for it was obviously based on the idea that Pop music is only what's popular at the moment. That's not the case. There are plenty of Alternative bands that are at the top of the charts. That stylistically doesn't make them Pop. They're still Alternative. Glam Metal wasn't Pop simply because it was immensely popular in the 80's, nor was Grunge in the 90's. As I said, you're not entirely wrong. But your logic is flawed. It implies that all music that isn't Pop has a static style that cannot evolve.

    After buying all real albums(except the first) I must say this. Within temptation has always been changing only with roots to the first album. In the unforgiving they however let go and made something comepletly different. With each album I think they turn into better and better musicians and I must say that this album is interesting. Not only do they continue on the road they opened up with unforgiving but they will also return deeper to the core with the return of grunts as well as working together with a whole range of artist with both similar and totally different sound.

    wow! I'd never think that WT would make me cry. this video remembers me Shane Murphy. He was my helicopter flight instructor in San Diego-CA. After I had my 1st solo flight with him on July 4th, he went to France to record a basejump movie with his friends and unfortunately passed away on 8/7/2012 in a basejump accident.
