With ASUS AX86U and AX82U WiFi 6 gaming routers, games come first

Ғылым және технология

The WiFi 6 age is here, and if you aren’t taking advantage of it already, you’re really missing out. Here’s a look at two of the newest and most advanced gaming-focused routers from ASUS, the AX86U and the AX82U. The 86U router features an impressive 1.8 GHz CPU and a full 1 Gig of RAM, along with features designed to help deliver peak wired and wireless performance. The 82U offers slightly different specs and adds some stylish RGB lighting controllable via the ASUS router app.
The WiFi 6 standard is faster, more energy efficient, and has a longer range - but where it really excels is in lowering the latency in crowded WiFi networks. So WiFi 6-enabled routers can make browsing the web on your phone or laptop faster and easier, and they can also significantly improve your experience when gaming, whether you’re on a PC or a console.

    Should i of got the 86u for like 20$ more instead of 82u? For like the cpu and ram? I stream netflix to fire stick and game on pc wired. But I pay for wifi speeds under 100. Should I of waited for 6e? Will 82u last me years?

    I'm not sure where you're looking but everywhere I've seen the price difference between the 82U and 86U is about $100 ($230 to $330). For $100 they have minor differences, the biggest of which the 86U has a dedicated 2.5Ghz port where the 82U does not... but to my knowledge, no ISPs offer anything above 1Ghz service, so that's more of a future-proof port on the 86U that may or may not ever be needed and we may be on WiFi 8 or 9 by the time 2.5Ghz port is needed, so you'd want a new router anyways.

    Is it Possible to have the router connected up wireless to the modem because I want to have my router in my room but my modem is in my living room. Any Helpful advice?

    You're going to want to hardwire this (or any) router to your modem (in the living room), you don't hook up your router wirelessly... if you really, Really want a hot point in your room, you'll want to run a mesh hotspot system.

    I have the 82U. If you have more than one console or PC and console hooked up even wired they will confuse it and it is impossible to get a Open Nat type. Even using the open Nat type from the app. I have a Xbox and PS4. PS4 will be open until I turn on the Xbox. Then it stays moderate no matter what you do. Good luck!

  • @wolfshanze5980

    @wolfshanze5980

    3 жыл бұрын

    Both these models are ethernet routers and wifi-6 hubs... neither has a built-in modem... so you will need an external modem... whether that's from your ISP (rented) or you purchased your own modem doesn't matter... but you will (of course) want the fastest internet speed from your ISP (hopefully 1gigabyte cable or fiber, not some slow DSL) that your modem will provide to these routers. If your current modem already is at 1-gig, these will do their job just fine.

    Wifi 6(ax) range is inferior to ac. Speed and latency is phenomenal though, albeit within that range.

  • @wolfshanze5980

    @wolfshanze5980

    3 жыл бұрын

    The 2.4GHz band is the range band and the 5Ghz band is the speed band... both are offered on WiFi 6, you can choose either band, so to say WiFi 6 range is inferior isn't correct at all, that's why these are dual-band routers, you can choose the range or the speed, depending on where you're using your wireless device from (there's also an auto-switcher, so you can either choose manually or let it pick the best band for you)... the range/speed argument is a moot point with a dual band router.
