I grew up about an hour from Iowa City, always a Hawkeye fan
I'm from Wisconsin and was at this game. It was a blast to finally be back at a sporting event and to participate in this tradition again. They started this tradition in 1998 by randomly playing this song against Purdue, and the fans loved it, so they began playing it for every game at the end of the 3rd quarter. In 2003, they stopped playing the song for 1 week due to construction of the stadium and the higher ups thought it would do damage to the stadium since you can feel the stadium move when the song is played. This pissed the fans off, so the following week they started the tradition back up again when an engineer told them no damage would be done by the jumping of the fans. Oh and btw, this doesn't even show the other tradition that the student section has with their "ES FY" chant. All Wisconsin fans know this chant, and lets just say it's not PG.

Wisconsin was voted the best college town in all of America by Sports Illustrated and Associated Press. Camp Randall Stadium has been hosting football in rudimentary form since 1895, and as a fully functioning stadium since 1917. The oldest and fifth largest stadium in the Big 10 Conference, Camp Randall is the 41st largest stadium in the world, with a seating capacity of 80,32. We have way more other unique traditions and songs that are only in Wisco that other top colleges don't come close. Our marching band is so fantastic and famous that you can bet a scholarship from that. They regularly appear in the Rose Bowl parade in Pasadena even when the Badgers aren't in the Rose Bowl Game and play at half-time for the legendary Green Bay Packers. And no one has the infamous 5th Quarter as well as Jump Around, which measures as a small earthquake on the Richter scale, between the 3rd and 4th quarters. Varsity. On Wisconsin. Roll Out the Barrel. If You Want to Be a Badger..., etc. So many classics that beat every other college town. The wave done 5 different ways. The "fuck you" "eat shit" between the upper and lower classmen sections. It's also consistently ranked by SI as the top or top 10 party school in the nation, yet it is almost a "Public Ivy" and also consistently a top 25 public university. Supposedly the infamous quote about ranking party schools was from an older 1960s Playboy article (my dad had; he went to college in the late '60s and then moved out to Newport Beach/Orange County and attended UC-Davis but previously he attended and of course partied at University of Wisconsin-Whitewater which is in the middle of nowhere and only a 35 min drive over to Madison.) Partying starts on Wednesday or Thursday night and continues on through the weekend. Many students drive up to Madison from Whitewater to party longer, harder, and more...and forget about attending any Monday classes! 🤮🍺 Wisconsin not being included by Playboy as they did yearly ranking of top party schools, which SI has somewhat taken on, as far as the University of Wisconsin-Madison. The Playboy quote with an asterisk at the bottom of the article: "Of couse we didn't include Wisconsin in this list because it would be unfair to rank professionals with amateurs." 🍻 😆 It's nuts up there. "This pissed the fans off..." Oh ho ho, you understate this more than you may know. I was a UW student back then and admin hadn't said anything prior to the game that there was concerns about the work in the upper deck surviving the rumbling so we didn't know it was coming and it was already beloved by then. When the 4th quarter started without the song, practically every student from sections K to P sat down and refused to stand for the rest of the game, with frequent "Fu** the sound guy!" chants breaking out. Sure, it was childish and petulant, but at least it was coordinated, which is pretty darned good for thousands of college kids in various states of inebriation. It was front page news for at least 3 of the 5 days that coming week in both campus newspapers, from the explanation on Monday to the announcement on Friday that we'd get it back. The roar in the stadium on Saturday when we heard that first trumpet blast was probably one of the biggest non-football cheers at Camp Randall for a damned long time.

Look, I'm in Florida. I've got nothing to do with Wisconsin. But this is the BEST SHIT IN COLLEGE FOOTBALL!!!
I went to a UW vs. UW game in Seattle (University of Wisconsin vs University of Washington) many years ago. After the game, the Wisconsin Band had these tuba players that waltzed around the stadium serenading the fans. Well...the problem was....after the game....EVERYONE LEFT. The stadium was almost empty, except, possibly some Wisconsin fans. But those tuba players...kept playing on. The next day the local newspaper sports commentator had words about the Wisconsin "crowd". Words to the effect: "Who WERE these people?" (Wisconsin and Washington hadn't played a game against each other in decades, so Wisconsin, and their fans, and their tubas, were a bit shocking to the more reserved Washington crowd).
My high school football team would always go to State and play at Badger's Stadium. Without even a full crowd, it still gives you chills to be on the field and looking up into the giant pantheon of history and physicality. ... It also seems to be designed or positioned in a way that creates one hell of a wind XD

MADISON, Wis. (AP) - University of Wisconsin police say 45 people were ejected and 32 people were arrested during the football game between the Badgers and Eastern Michigan on Saturday night. ______________________________ According to official NCAA records, most of the largest crowds to see a college football game have taken place at Michigan Stadium. Here are the top 5: Notre Dame at Michigan, Sept. 7, 2013 -- 115,109 Notre Dame at Michigan, Sept. 10, 2011 -- 114,804 Ohio State at Michigan, Nov. 26, 2011 -- 114,132 Michigan State at Michigan, Oct. 20, 2012 -- 113,833 Nebraska at Michigan, Nov. 19, 2011 -- 113,718

That Jump Around actually registered as an earthquake!

Before the renovations at Camp Randall, the university told the PA booth to stop playing Jump Around because it was damaging the stadium. They also told the students not to do it. The guy in the booth checked his contract- he didn't actually work for the university. At the next game, he put in a long pause, and then started the music. Students went NUTS. The powers that be then hired engineers to figure out how to add extra support to the stadium.

They had to cancel the Jump Around tradition one time because the stadium was undergoing renovations at the time and they were afraid that a section of the stadium would collapse. The students were not happy about, so officials later had the stadium inspected to make sure it would be safe which they later ruled that the Jump Around tradition would be safe to perform.

This guy deleted this comment...because I was right.... Evan Galinsky replied: "Kevin Clements Not Randall stadium lmao I don't know the name of the other team's field but as a Wisconsinite, I can assure you just by looking at the stadium and what's surrounding it, its not Ran..." 8 minutes ago
How much stress do you think that puts in the building structure having literally everyone jumping up and down? The old Mile High Stadium in Denver would actually shake the tv cameras on the broadcast because people where jumping and being so loud.
