My Dad is 101 and is one of the last survivors who were actually on the Utah when it was attacked at Pearl Harbor. He has never been back to Hawaii, but I was able to visit there myself about 4 years ago and Facetimed him (with my sister's help) so he could see the memorial and ship as it is now. We had to walk across Ford Island as it's not really "open" to the public, although no one stopped us from walking there from the tourist bus which takes you to the USS Missouri.

My grandfather was a charter crewmember when commissioned and always spoke highly of. Mentioned it was much improved over the ship he was coming from, the USS Louisiana which he said was a dirty ship, his words.

RIP.....utah and the crew who are still with you.

RIP Melvyn Gandre from Utah. I have Melvin's last letter from the ship to his wife along with Xmas cards to his 2 children. Beautiful letter and heartbreaking.

Rip my Great Uncle Marvin Miller(18) who was drowned on the USS Utah and is officially MIA.
