Fun fact: Wintersun boss, Jari, started recording of the Time I album back in 2006. It wasn't released until 2012. It took so long because the digital recording hardware of the time wasn't up to the task of capturing Jari's 200-300 tracks per song.

That was great!! Good of you to finally done this. I would strongly recommend Sons of winter and stars and Land of snow and sorrow from this same rehearsal session for next reactions to Wintersun. After that the Forest seasons album in order starting from Awaken from the dark slumber (spring). That would make my year 🤘🏻😈🤘🏻

I was, like you, one of the people that put this band on the back burner to one day check out maybe. Now that I did, I'm watching all reactions to them on the channels I subbed to on KZread. I can't get enough of Wintersun!

You're the first reactor I've seen do this song that picked up on the fact that the second "solo" isn't actually a solo, but a duet. Now do Sons of Winter and Stars from the same session.

The fun thing is: there *IS* sweepy stuff in this solo and there *IS* tappy stuff in that solo... they just know how to actually use it tastefully and musically and that's what many can't to these days.

Outside of Wintersun, Jari was also part of Ensiferum for their first two albums. "Iron" is an awesome album! He ended up leaving due to scheduling conflicts with Wintersun but the bands are very friendly and work together still, which is always nice. You should definitely check out some ensiferum as well!

Second to Amorphis! Older stuff (really old) is close to black metal and then some more clean singing in the early 2000 and now last few albums have been somewhere between the two worlds. Current singer Tomi has imho best deep groul voice in metal. It just feels like coming from somewhere deeper while you still make out the words! New single just came out so maybe thats something to begin with?

When I’m in a hard rock mood, this band would be it.. the music without vocals, was amazing… I dealt with the short growl part to get to that edgy sound you described in the vocals.. with lyrics I can understand…I’ll have to check out more

I was never into harsh vocals until I heard Wintersun, and I think the difference for me is that, even when Jari is screaming and growling, his diction is so good you can still understand most of the lyrics. I haven't been able to find that in most other death metal bands I've checked out.

Sons of Winter and Stars, also killer as hell. You will love it also. Nice reaction.

Man, I got teary eyed watching your reaction and discovering this band! This is my favorite song from Wintersun, but lucky for you they don't have any bad songs so keep on reacting. People just feel something in these songs, and there is something in Time that rises it just above everything else in my book. Some have already suggested that maybe go through the Time I album live rehearsals first as you've just listened to 1 of 3 now, and then maybe for the debut album stuff and after that for the latest album The Forest Seasons. But like I said, they don't have any bad songs, just pick how you want to journey ahead! Keep up the good work

15:30 Kai has Jazz background which probably sounds in his playing.

Revisiting this reaction again because of the imminent Time II release. Man. If the songs are as good as this, it'll be beyond incredible. The crazy thing is that we've already heard the live performances of two of the songs in Time II and indeed they are at least as good as Time and there's two more songs which we haven't heard of yet.

Mr Mear, I`ve been waiting your reaction of this and there is still more to come. Loneliness is also a very good piece and Land of Snow and Sorrow. Please do them asap. BTW the guitar solo of this Time is one of the best solos I`ve ever heard and I can listen to it every day!

Your reaction was a mirror into my soul. So glad you eventually caught up with Wintersun. For me this track and performance is simply one of if not at times for me the greatest of all time ever. This band and all its members deserve so much more attention and respect.

I never really got into Nightwish. I have tried, but it is still not clicking. Wintersun is definitely more in my comfort zone. I need to check out more. Ryan, do another Wintersun reaction 😆

Great reaction. A must listen after this is Sons of Winter and Stars. You can hear the Finnish winter rage through the song with a brilliant, clear view of the stars. For something just as epic, you need to listen to Kingdom of Heaven (part 3) by Epica. It will blow you away as this one did.

I knew you'd like it 😊. If I should give you a little list, I would say the rest of the songs from the sonic pump studio session and then "Loneliness" and "the forest that weeps". the last mentioned is probably the one I listen to the most these days.

Enjoyed your reaction to this masterpiece. Like a couple of other commenters have said, you should check out Amorphis as well. Their vocalist, Tomi Joutsen, handles both harsh vocals and cleans very nicely. Maybe check out the official video for Death of a King if you prefer to start with an album track, or Towards and Against live in Oulu for a live performance.

If you liked Jari's guitar work in this (a guitar god in his own right) check out the other guitarist, Teemu Mantysaari playing the solo from Winter Madness, a Wintersun song from their debut album. There's a video of him doing it on a guitar lesson/course channel with split screen of cameras on his hands. Then come back and tell me that guy's human.

A true masterpiece!

At 15 minutes, you mention the two solos. It's pretty much a classical point-counter-point translated through metal guitar solos.

Very Viking feel to this song. Would totally work in How to Train Your Dragon with Toothless and Hiccup.

I love your reaction so much but I must say once again (I've been commenting to a LOT of WS reactions) that it's funny (not saying it's bad, just interesting) that most reactors today see Kai as the main star in the band (which is totally understandable, HE is a star and totally worth the praise and attention), but while the main man, Jari is undoubtedly the mastermind behind all this incredible music (while not ignoring his serious flaws). To me he is one of the best composers in recent history, but his style with growling vocals and heavy death metal music keeps getting him more mainstream recognition though Wintersun was once nominated for the best metal album of the year in Finland with "Time I", however it was of course Nightwish who took the award. My further recommendation to Wintersun is "Sons of Winter and Stars (Live rehearsal Remastered)", "Loneliness (Winter)" and "Eternal Darkness (Autumn)" though whatever song you can find, it ought to be superb, like "Winter Madness", "Death and the Healing", "Sleeping Stars" etc.. so you can't go wrong with any of the songs. By the way, if you love solos like in this song, "Winter Madness" has an absolutely beastly solo but my absolute favorite is in "The Way Of The Fire" (The song itself is not yet released, but it has been performed live many times) and it has actually two solos and the later one is just mindblowingly sublime and I have no idea how he came up with that. Overall the song itself is quintessential Wintersun and I can't wait to hear the studio version of it.

Yep, I imagine this comes from people, like myself, discovering Kai via Nightwish. So I found Wintersun, through Kai, through Nightwish lol. I do enjoy getting a new story about a new (to me) band, abd who is doing what!

Love your reaction especially on that Guitar duet repeating it a few times. That's what I would do when hearing such beauty first time. About guitaring: I think Gojira is an interesting side kick to listen to cause they use tapping and sweeping as a basis. Can't explain their style. It's melodious, and at the same time a wall of sound with hardly any soloing, The drummer is outstanding like the one in Wintersun, but very different. Without a good drummer no band I say.

Oh man... if you just discovered Wintersun, you missed out on soooo much. Jari is a great composer. If you want to hear another epic solo, I suggest listening to Eternal Darkness from The Forest Seasons album. I can't even describe how MAGNIFICENT it is.
