I am not a cookie monster vocal guy either but the growling that Wintersun does is tasteful -- the guitars are what takes the spotlight with this band!

The Forest Seasons has allot of growl vocal. Especially Eternal Darkness (Autumn) with it's black metal atmosphere, but Loneliness (Winter) is amazing with Jari's greatest operatic vocals to date! It's a ballad masterpiece!

Yet another great Finnish band. If you didn't notice, that drummer (Kai Hahto) is currently playing drums in Nightwish. I know you're not a big fan of growling, but perhaps you should try few other songs from this band. As you experienced their great guitarwork, maybe little bit growling ain't so bad after all :) Try at least Sons of winter and stars (same live rehersal as this one). One song that hits me hard (with lyrics) is Loneliness... (ah... was 15 minutes late from that important info :))

Lol...glad you survived it :). Yes, they are epic...every one of their songs has this much of an emotional impact. Jari, the singer, is the driving force behind this band. Like Tuomas from Nightwish, he composes virtually all of their stuff, arranges it, and layers about 300 tracks of stuff on each cut :). These are also the most laid back guys you could ever meet...it's not that Jukka, the bassist, isn't happy to be there it's: a) NO ONE has easy stuff to play in a Wintersun song, and he's trying to make sure he doesn't screw up lol, and b) he's probably the most laid back out of all of them. The thing about Jari's harsh vocals is it always suits the song, and he will do a lot of clean vocals in various songs when called for. Jari has since given up guitar playing live, to concentrate on vocals, so the other guy, Teemu, does most of his parts. They added another guitarist named Asim a while back to cover the other guitar parts. He's a great player as well, but I have my man crush on Teemu lol. He's just an awesome guy, and you should check out a few vids-- a Malmsteen cover :kzread.info/dash/bejne/d6qc0JN9YranmsY.html, and this, which made me just want to quit the guitar forever lol: kzread.info/dash/bejne/k4OX16htdti5lLA.html. That right hand...sweet Jeeebus.

If you want to see the bassist really happy, watch the live rehearsal REMASTER of Sons of Winter and Stars :) It has a lot of growling vocals but also a lot of clean vocals as well. It's a less coherent song, but meant to be a kind of magnum opus for this band and a showpiece of what they are capable of. Highly recommended.

I read the bassist being more like very concentrated, than unhappy. He lloks pretty m uch the same in the song Sons of Winter and Stars (SoW&S) - but then in the end he raises his hands in the joy and trill he got. Though he did smirk there happy a few times. My guess is these songs are pretty demanding for the bass too. I mean I'm no expert, not even a musician, but I get that the guitars are demanding - the confirmation has come from the comments of the more experienced: most people are collencting their dropped jaw somewhere from the floor. And the drums certainly are demanding! :) I get the feeling this recording session is one of the first times they play the whole song perfectly (enough? :) ) for the recording, that's why the bassist is so concentrating, and goes celebrating after they get The SoW&S through.

Ryan - Excellent choice and another great reaction, you do get used to the growling vocals. I have been a metal fan for around 50 or so years and was not a fan of the harsh vocals but now I can usually understand them without any difficulty and have come to enjoy them. For more good guitar work (maybe not quite on this level) try Kamelot 'Elizabeth', 'Forever' or 'Momento Mori' (others as well) most react to 'The Haunting' w/Simone Simons or you might enjoy Avantasia - The Scarecrow (The Flying Opera) live HD. I am also certain you will get requests for Jinjer and Eluveitie. I agree with @Jari Puro ....."maybe little bit growling ain't so bad after all" And oh yeah Kai Hahto is a f---ing machine.

I was one of people who requested this band) I’m glad you’ve enjoyed!) I new you would like their music) and as long as you were ok with Floor a little bit growling I thought this one will also work)) This is also a band from Finland. By the way did you notice that they share the drummer with Nightwish. His name is Kai Hahto. He is awesome, real professional! Next song you should react to is Sons Of Winter And Stars (wery impressive to see), or Land of Snow and Sorrow. * (interesting) also find a video from a drum cam from Sons of Winter and Stars)))

Cool, This opened, tried to listen it few times before. They are very skilled. One of the bands along Amorphis that teached me, an old man (much older than you ;), to listen harsh vocals. Sons Of Winter and Stars guitar work is excellent, there also harsh vocals in the beginning... you just have to deal with it... and after a while you start liking it ;).

Wintersun and Amorphis are about as much growling as I can handle to still find it beautiful. But that's because they use growls very tastefully and I can still understand them. When I'm in the mood for it Amon Amarth works as well, as they basically proof that you can growl whithout sacrificing understandability.

Finland. Now all you even more hardcore Wintersun fans can correct me if I'm wrong but doesn't Jari (pronounced Yari) pull off these incredible vocals with diminished lung capacity? Don't recall the story behind that. But impressive even for a normal person :)

Kai kicking butt on the drums as usual. I liked some of the guitar work but I've never been a huge fan of the growls or the speed metal sound either like it changed into in the middle section. I can take growls if it's a little here and there mixed with clean vocals too, so this is tolerable for a little while. lol Ok, so do you want only famous bands or are KZread instrumental groups acceptable as reaction requests? I have 2 in mind that you may like for the guitar work, but I don't know how you'd feel about no vocals but shredding guitars.

They surely took their TIME finishing this song, LOL. Not so long as some NW songs though. I was expecting to see Ryan's face when the vocals started, wasn't disappointed. Many say that harsh/growling vocals are needed to create the atmosphere, especially in doom/death metal, but personally I don't like them either. P.S. Just to make sure, I like Wintersun, and their song "Loneliness" is an epic requiem for Jari's dead father.
