Superb. It takes a lot of courage to face yourself so openly, and that, I feel, is the true beauty of music and art in general. The expression of one's own emotions can move mountains, and I thank you for sharing your experience of this masterful music with everyone. Your insight is also very refreshing, reactions can often be very surface level, but you're keeping it real, so to speak. Much love!

Shed some tears myself during this reaction and have in the past with this song. I feel this Finnish melancholy music does get me through the hard times and it's also important to get back in to it when the times are good just to help appreciate the good times (for me at least). Honest reaction mate... Appreciated. Sorry to hear loss of your father. Marko Hietala has song in his solo album Voice of My Father, which is also great song. Marko lost his father to alcohol and this song is kind of tribute to his father or to fathers from past. This song is also in finnish Isäni Ääni, but it is of course difficult to non finnish speakers.

All the briljant musical pieces from Wintersun fall into nothingness with the vocals in this song. His vocals are dripping from melancholy, hurt, anguish. This combined with the melody and meaning of the words makes it the best metal balled ive heard. Even the guitars sound sad. And although i really, reallylike most others Wintersun songs, for this is the Masterpiece.

I always listen to all four tracks then immediately play the Autumn track again just to shake me out of the melancholy that Winter induces. I was estranged from my family back in my teenage years and despite many attempts on my part, reconciliation never happened. that’s OK, it was a lifetime ago, but songs like this always make you wonder “what if”. Music is very powerfull tool to get your bad feelings out. If i need to cry and let some frustration out i listen something like this. Last night i was driving a car and listening Megadeth (random playlist) and "Promises" started, i was 100% sure that i´m going to weep in some parts and i can´t stop that with willpower. Only way would´ve been to skip that peace or turn off the stereo. Same thing for some other songs. If i listen Scorpions greatest song "Still loving you", i cry every time for loss of love with one special woman at my past. Just can´t help it. It just happens. This song has the same sad elements even in instrumental version. It has so much emotion.

"The Voice of my Father" by Marko Hietala is one that gets me every time. Also "The Truth Shall Set You Free" from the same album (Pyre of the Black Heart; probably one of the most metal album names ever). And it's so weird, because it gets me in a totally different way, like melancholic but at the same time it kinda fills your spirit, if that makes any sense. I don't really know how else to put it. It's not hopeful, exactly, and not quite uplifting. Empowering is close but just doesn't quite encompass it.

I have never been much of a fan about the "growling" way of singing. BUT been accustomed to it, with something like Wintersun and Trivium, mainly. And now can appreciate something like Mors Principium Est. One of the biggest things to turn me, was Wintersun. I still, mainly, need something like a singer that can sing growling AND clean (Wintersun, Amorphis, Trivium) or a song with good melody (Mors Principium Est). Still, I want to be able to understand the singing, without seeing the lyrics. So "Growler" would have to sing the way, that I understand by ear... That aside, one thing that instantly took a hold of me, regarding Wintersun. Was the complexity of the composing, drumming and the singing. After hearing the first Wintersun song (Sons Of Winter And Stars), I didn't like the harsh vocals. But loved the "clean" vocals. But it was like a stepping stone, for me, to get more accustomed to growling vocals. And to growling vocals that you can still HEAR AND UNDERSTAND. Which is very important for me. Now, Jari has an awesome voice. The first thing, that struct me, was his ability to bring forth EMOTION. I mean, here it made you cry... His vocals are usually so filled with emotion, that it's really not so common to find from someone's voice... Anyway, love them (Wintersun). They should make more music, faster ;) Jari is a perfectionist (maybe even too much one...) I compare him to Tuomas from Nightwish... As a composer and visionary. Maybe that is why all the Wintersun members are now on Nightwish? ;)

.............😥 Feel for you buddy, these are some hearfelt lyrics for many of us I guess. My dad left my mom and I when I was five years old, and after years of in and out of contact he cut off communication completely at the time me and my wife (girlfriend at that time) bought our first house more than 10 years ago. Never ever heard from him again since. So questions like 'why like this?' and 'who am I?' popped up regularly in my life. Guess we're all a bit 'damaged goods' if you really think about it. Thank you Thomas! We all shared the emotions of this masterpiece with you. "Although happiness and melancholy in a way are opposite ends of the spectrum, they are also kind of the same thing, like almost ying and yang, like you need one to have the other." Totally agree with you. Finns have been rated as the happiest nation of the world for many years, and it has been a mystery for people from other cultures to understand our happiness, because there is nothing particularly cheerful about our culture. What is special about your emphatetic way of listening to music is that through music you have understood the core of our melancholic happiness. This song, "Endlessness" by Nightwish and "Pale Morning Star" (official lyric video) by Insomnium, each one a masterpiece, beautifully express this union of sorrow and happiness, which we so embrace.

Also "Pale Morning Star" by Insomnium is great. So sad and incredibly beautiful with expressive harsh vocals. "Cathedrals of Mourning" by the Belzebubs, a cartoon heavy metal band, on the other hand is hilarious. It is decent metal but yet it takes the Mickey of metal conventions. This is really a powerful song! What a journey to go on. I think the biggest impact was that in some ways it felt more reserved or held back, instrumentally, certainly not vocally or lyrically. I think more so than the others this one was about the lyrics and their delivery first and foremost.

ive heard the song once before, but never payed attention to lyrics. those lyrics are gorgeous. i still have both parents and i was tearing up with you (and the rest of the comment section apparently). great song. thx for posting it 😁 hope youre doing well! ps: i can't recommend lorna shores new ep "...and i return to nothingness" enough. its not even a genre i listen to regularly and its the album of the year for me so far. the lead singer has the first two songs released as vocal playthroughs on his channel and i imagine the third song is coming soon. i think youll love them.

My mom died in May this year, and although I loved this song so much before, now it hits on a different level. Yeah, that feeling of what could have been said and questions that should have been asked, but you'll never know and never get the chance to say it is just terrible. And I couldn't even visit or talk to my mom during her last days and last time I saw her and spoke to her she was relatively ok and I couldn't even comprehend at that moment that it would be the last time. So those words in the song really hit differently now and I can also relate to how you feel, cause till you lose your parent it is just impossible to imagine how it is. Sorry to hear about your father. Anyway, absolutely amazing song, melody is just fantastic and Jari's vocal performance is incredible. I don't know which I like more, those insane screams or the power and melody of how he sings the chorus. As I said already in the 'Spring' comment, to me this is one of the best ballads out there. Great reaction as always, and it is so crazy that Wintersun shared your reaction! 🤘😄

Hey Aleksandar! Dude, I'm so sorry to hear about your Mother. That must've been so difficult to go through, especially on top of everything that's happening in the world. It really is a terrible pain to not be able to talk to those we have lost. I can imagine it was a real experience to come back and listen to this song again. Anyway, thank you for sharing this, mate. Well, usually I don't want to bother ppl with that but your experience related to this song sounded so similar to mine so I felt the need to share, cause what you said were my thoughts also and Jari put them into the song so well. Yeah, not much positivity out there in the world these days, sucks enough even without such family heartbreaks. Sending hug across the pond, cheers mate! 🙏🍻

Beautiful reaction, I felt it too at the end. I really want to see your reaction on "Way of the Fire" by Wintersun, since it has been my favorite song, and have been listening to it daily for the past 6 months, even tho it's still not the studio version (goddamit Jari!) hahaha~! It has also one of his best guitar solos in my opinion, and just a beautiful 'mid-tro' with synths. Damn, it's definitely Time II release that as a studio version.

Truly appreciate your efforts in this album review and your honesty and openness to show your emotions. I know it's rough to cry in a video, but it's really meaningful for some of us watching. Or for me, at least. I don't really get to cry very often because of my antidepressants; a small price to pay, but I still miss it. But by empathizing with someone onscreen who's reacting to something which without the meds *would* make me cry, I can get some of that catharsis that I'm missing from not being able to shed my own tears. And sometimes, if I'm really lucky, I'm able to cry alongside you. Those videos are truly special to me, because they give me something I cannot normally reach on my own. You don't realize how nice it is to be able to cry until you can't anymore. I just wanted to share this because after most reaction videos where the reactor cries, they say something like "I told myself I wasn't gonna cry", and I just want you to know that as hard as it is to let people see that vulnerable side of you, especially anonymous strangers on the Internet, it's invaluable to some of us. I'm very sorry for your loss, and wish I could say something to ease your Father's passing, but all I have is this: "There will come a time, I promise you, when the thought of your loved one will bring a smile to your face before it brings a tear to your eye. My prayer for you is that that time comes sooner rather than later." --Joe Biden, 2012, to the families of fallen soldiers on the deaths of his own wife and children.

Hello my friend, thank you for sharing this lovely comment, it really warms my heart. I'm sorry to hear that your medication can prevent that emotional reaction within yourself. Crying does help us deal and process with a lot in life so I can understand why you miss it. I'm glad that the video could help in some way via empathy. Interestingly, I don't normally cry often with music but it's happened quite a few times on this channel. I think the process of recording gives me a sense of connection with people watching so the songs and emotions can be a lot more intense. I'm grateful to live in a time where we can easily be open and vulnerable with like-minded people. Take care! 🙂🤘

I watched this many times, without writing something, but it feels right for me to do now. Every now and then I am coming back to your reaction (mostly on really tough days) because it's so pure. When I was 16 years old I lost my best friend due to an accident in a winter resort. Even 17 years later I am missing him so much every day. Coming to your reaction feels just right for me on devastating days. I don't know why it's like this, but it's like mourning with a good friend and I am grateful that you posted this. Thank you so much brother! Spreading emotions und kindness can help many of us and is needed more than ever today. I hope you are safe and well my friend. Take care! 💚

I'm honoured that you've come back to this video and found some form of comfort. I would never expect one of my videos to have that kind of significance so this makes my day to read. I agree, the world needs more kindness and honesty these days! Thanks again and take care! 🤗

First of all thank you for your reaction. I knew the song but I didn't know the story behind it and, well, after knowing the reason I must say that I also ended up with tears at the end of your reaction... I also lost my father a few years ago and many of the lyrics phrases made another sense to me. But that's what makes a song a masterpiece, and Wintersun pulled it off c:

I'm so happy for you to have reacted to Wintersun. Although I've really known them a few months only, while knowing all the time Kai's background, but never before was I ready for another metal band, just yet . Now that I've found it, it simply blows my mind. So heavy, but simultaneously pleasing, comforting. Invincible playing, awesome lyrics. What comes to this song and it's lyrics, I get the feeling I have to search for someone lost to grieve. The easiest way would naturally be my parents, and in some part they are, but there already are so many others I could and should have been closer with while they still were here. If I'm not wrong, you're Australian, right? If you really are, your accent sounds a bit different from the people in the Eastern coast, Sydney at least. I hope you don't mind me asking this.

I suffer from insomnia, and it has resulted in that my social life has for years been pretty much with people in US and Canada. Never sleep before 5-6 am, sometimes not at all.
