Winterizing our Lance RV in Under 15 Minutes!!

With temperatures approaching ZERO at night coming up, I decided to winterize our water system with antifreeze. Watch me as I do it for the very first time on our 2020 Lance 1985 in under 15 minutes! I had drained the water heater, tanks and low points after our prior camping trip plus we had kept the furnace running but will we find any frozen lines?

We have a 2019 Lance 2375 and a 2014 Toyota Tundra with Priories hitch. This is our 4th trailer not including the coleman pop-up. I had been blowing out the water system with air. Last year with the Lance I was behind schedule and didn't have time to make modifications to blow outhe system so I decided, against my better judgement to use the link stuff. I I purchased the more expensive fluid specifically designed for RVs in hopes of avoiding the after smell in the Spring. Boy was that a mistake! We dealt with the rotten smell and taste for most of the season. This year I found it was easy to put a female garden hose fitting on the clear tube used for the link stuff. I still used the antifreeze in the the drains. Now we won't have to deal with the smell again. We love our Lance and would be happy to compare notes if you are so inclined. We live in New Hampshire but purchased our Lance in Albuquerque after capsizing our Rockwood in Texas.

I went a little further on my winterization. I blew out the lines first with a compressor, drained the water tank and poured about 3 gallons in the tank to run up through the line to the pump. I also ran antifreeze through the tank rinse line and in our case, the shower miser line back to the tank. I probably used a total on 6 gallons of antifreeze but I'm fairly certain I'm good. I left my batteries in and put a battery tender on them.

You can leave your lithium batteries in the trailer, just don’t let the solar panel charge it in freezing temps. We live in RI and it’s cold, so we have a switch between batteries and panels we shut off. We Winter camp and charge them back up at a all year campground about once a month. You only lose about 25% in a month if you let it sit in yard. I hope this helps. Happy cold camping! Bob and Deb 👍🏻🇺🇸

Just a word about dryer sheets - my cousin is afraid of mice SHE HATES MICE . When she winterized her pontoon boat she would use several boxes of dryer sheets . Needless to say , she was very upset when I had to remove two active nests one Spring day - and yes the nests were made up of dryer sheets . On rare occasions I would get a mouse in my camper . Ladybugs & stink bugs were more common . I finally took care of both of these problems in my camper . I spent a whole day (less naps) finding & fixing entry points . So far for the last 3 years no mice , no bugs . 👍😄

Howdy! I believe your model Lance has dry traps in the kitchen and bathroom sink. I believe it is a standard p-trap in the shower. So wherever there is a p-trap you want to include the anti freeze in the trap and put the drain stopper back in to avoid splashing. Saw you by-passed, but not empty the water heater. But we should probably assume that. We have the 2021 Lance 1985 and blow out the lines because we haven't researched whether or not the pink stuff is OK to consume, or have on our bodies, even in tiny, tiny amounts. But if we find the risk to be tolerable with your method, we will switch since it will shave off a bit of time and set up.

One item I forgot on my trailer. Blowing out the water line on the black tank flush! 😬 hopefully it’s okay but I just remembered that the other day. Yes, it’s amazing that people pay to winterize their RV. It’s pretty simple on most rigs. We just made reservations for southern Utah come late March. Can’t wait to get out and enjoy the rig. One things that hit me again since I have been interested in this model is that though the batteries have nice hatches that they are vented for lead acid which is not good for Lithium in colder temps. Hopefully when you drained the water system you opened the hot & cold water valves under the camper and opened the sink spigots inside. This drains the water at the lowest point in the camper. Also, the water heater needs to be drained by removing the drain plug after it is bypassed. When I do this in my Lance there is no residual clear water left in the system. Perhaps you did this, but I just thought I would mention it.

Mice can get in the smallest of openings. Many times we have seen openings on trailers where the manufactures won’t completely seal openings where they run wires or pipes through the floor of a trailer. That small opening can be enough for them to get in. Expanding spray foam will assist in solving that problem.

we still aren't familiar with how to winterise our motorhome and do pay $100 each time to have it done.

Better to be safe and pay to have it done. I am sure would be able to do it yourself if you ever wanted to.

Maybe someone can explain something to me as i watch this channel. What does the name Delaney have anything to do what this channel? Lol Did I miss something which is quite possible. 😁

When we started our channel in 2017, we had a cocker spaniel named Delaney. She went everywhere with us so we named the channel, Travels with Delaney. Unfortunately we lost Delaney 6 months after starting our channel, to cancer. We have kept the name as a tribute to her.

Are you winterizing the Lance because you’re staying in the cabin.

We are going camping in the Lance this weekend. Just nervous with zero degree temperatures so we are being over cautious

Why did you have clear water if you blow out your lines?

I did not blow out the lines. Just drained the water heater and the low points.
