Winter Trains ll BNSF's Montana Hi-Line Subdivision Belton to Bison
Well, here it is. The follow up to our well received Winter Trains video from a few years ago. This one is a bit different. For one it's much longer and also we stay entirely in western Montana on the BNSF Hi-Line subdivision. However, we still have snow, cold weather and trains. Lot's of trains as we spend a week trackside. Hope you enjoy. Please let me know what you think, please "Like" and "Subscribe and as always thanks for Watching!

I’ve been on this route several times .I couldn’t ever get tired of the Empire builder or the Zephyrs through the Rockies and Sierra’s. I’ve never been on the routes on the east coast, sure they really are just as great to experience. Ihave been on the City of New Orleans a few times.
i love this because the cameraman takes in everything there is to be seen, very brilliant
Wow, words can't express how we feel when we watch this fantastic video. The mountains and trees are beautiful. The snow is really beautiful too. You do an amazing job. Thank you for taking the time to put together all of this and thank you for sharing. Keep up the fantastic work.

Thank you. yes, that second westbound grainer was basically two trains. It was too long to fit into most sidings so every thing else had to stop to let it pass. Also, thanks for your subscription. 😊
Great video!! Seems to jump a lot. I spent a couple days in Essex MT in the summer of 2019, very beautiful area.

About a 12 minute segment seems to jump due to issues during the upload process. I decided to leave it that way for now until the "newness" is over then ill re-upload it. Thanks for watching. 😊

Thanks Valerie. Yes, I did notice that as well. I believe it to be a KZread issue on the upload. I have debated whether to upload it again. I probably will at some point. You can skip through the part that jumps. It's approximately 12 minutes long or so. The rest of the video seems fine. Thank for watching. Let me know if there are other issues with it as well. 😊

@@GreatNorthernTech Not really. The MSTS depiction is lacking in detail in a number of areas (a number of the trestles are missing or erroneously depicted as ordinary bridges) and has unrealistic 5% grades (as opposed to the 2% grades in real life). I actually have an easier time doing activities on modified versions of the route that have improved scenery and the tracks regraded to make it easier to take heavy trains up the hill from Java to Summit, though at the compromise of the signals being all Searchlight signals instead of Darth Vader signals.
These horns are the very best. We don't even know that here in europe.

@@GreatNorthernTech Thanks for sharing your videos! the more i watch the more i get inspired to get out to the NW for some railfanning. I live in Sioux Falls SD and the train action around here is very boring. Used to drive truck for a living. In a big rig ive been to the NW many times including driving along the Columbia river gorge. Hard to explore when youre in a tractor trailer.

@@jimesser477 😄 True. Big rig not the best to explore with.
Kevin, you and your wife take and produce great videos! I am going to get back into filming when I move up to Idaho next month; I’m curious about how far from the tracks do you usually set up your camera? Again, great stuff and please keep it coming!! Take care and stay safe.

Thank You Gary. That's also a great question. We try to maintain at least 20 feet from the end of the ties. I always found that's a great rule of thumb. Again thanks for watching! 😊😊
is it Marias Pass on this line, plus Whitefish, Glacier Park, and Shelby,,??
Great stuff! I'm planning on visiting Glacier National Park in June, and I'd like to know how to get information on the train symbols, ATCS, etc. Thanks!
@GreatNorthernTech
3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching! One way that I gathered quite a bit of info about the Marias Pass area and the Hi-Line in general is Google. Great info is available online from railfan organizations, video producers and even the railroad themselves. There are some older BNSF employee timetables available on line in PDF form that will will give you mileposts and listings of sidings, length as well as the scanner frequencies for each area that you are visiting. As for the ATCS I would Google that to find ATCS groups out there. You may have to join a group to get the software to read the ATCS on your computer. Hope this helps. 😊
