Winter River Trout Fishing the Taneycomo

Спорт

Below the tail waters of Table Rock Lake runs the Taneycomo river, full of rainbow and brown trout. We are winter fishing with fly fishing gear and spinning tackle for the cold water trout while staying at an Ozark cabin.

    Justin I’ve been enjoying watching you get into the trout game! I know I’ve sent you pics on IG bout the big browns we chase here farther east. Excited to see you learn the fly game! Can’t wait for you to fall down the rabbit hole with streamers! Hope you go to Galloups Streamer School sometime! Rent a boat and throw jerkbaits, streamers, spoons & flies toward the bank next time you go! Oh and can’t wait til you discover the White river!!!

    Also at 34:27 those are redds from spawning trout. My guess is if you see trout up shallow in groups or pairs, they are either prepping to spawn or are on redds. Unlike bass fishing, fishing for trout on redds is considered bad form & looked down upon in the trout world.

    That little islet at 17:47 is where I caught my PR Rainbow, and I'll never forget it. 26" caught in August of 2022 with a brown/green hopper, floating down, right off the bank, literally inches from the shore. I love my local Taneycomo!

    All those fish at your feet reminded me of when I went to Oklahoma for my first attempt at trout fishing. I was working hard with my fly rod and caught one. My phone had taken a swim so there was no picture. I came back up to where my wife and kids were swimming. My son had caught one with his bare hands while swimming! He was more than happy to rub it in, too.

    It's the White River technically but the stretch below Table Rock is called Lake Taneycomo because it is held back by the Powersite Regeneration dam 15 miles downstream and portions of Taneycomo are deep even when it's low flow at pool level. When it's cold, good flies are glo bugs, and San Juan worms since the temperature puts the fall spawners in egg crankin mode and you also should always have assorted colors of scud imitations and midges size 18 to 20 which it looks like you covered. Slot limit is 4 fish per day with only one over 20 inches, all others have to be under 12 inches, and only one fish can be a brown trout which would count toward your 20 inch fish since they cannot be harvested under 20 inches.

  • @davidanderson7802

    @davidanderson7802

    5 ай бұрын

    Correction: first 3 miles have the slot system (only keep rainbows under 12 or over 20) rest of river you can keep any size rainbow and no limit on how many 20+ inch bows you can keep, just the only 1 brown and it having to be 20+

    Nice to see you getting into the fly fishing. I'm from the Northwest so I've been doing this for years. Next you need to start fishing streamers and maybe move into a trout spey rod setup. Swinging flies on that river would really get you hooked. Wish I lived closer so I could show and teach you some other fly fishing techniques. The floating line and sinking leader to a fly, would have been great in that shallow water. Great videos really enjoy your channel.
