Winter Garden Tour 2024 - A walkthrough of the Caudex Garden during the cold months…

Walk through my dads Caudex Garden with us while the plants are dormant and you can really see all the specimens without their leaves. He also shares some great information about the plants during the cold months. Enjoy!

Such a gorgeous collection, so beautifully staged with pots to match! What a dream. I'd be hanging out in that garden all the time as well, who needs to vacation elsewhere lol.

Ooooooh yeah, you just got another subscriber! 👀👀👀 I saved this video to watch at the end of my day right before I go to sleep, hoping it would live up to its title/thumbnail and did it how! What a treat! I can't wait to go through your older vids to see what these incredible babies look like at other times of the year! I could watch and listen to you talk about these guys for hours! Really looking forward to seeing and learning more about your whole plant collection but these guys in particular!

Did anyone catch the misidentification of the plant around 5 minutes on the Gasteria wall? We realized after making and rewatching this video together that my dad had a senior moment and identified the plant as an epiphylium, but it is actually a Rapsalis paradoxa. Oops! I guess that’s what happens when you catch a buzz before filming hah!

I didn't think twice about it, because rhipsalis are epiphytic cactus!

I often think back about the first succulent that caught my eye and got me into the hobby and how I stupidly lost it some 7 years ago, it was an Echinopsis 'Domino' which i thought was the cutest thing ever not having spines like the others. Eventually I went on reddit for advice as to why the plant that i had indoors was so etoliated, everyone basically told me that it needs sun because it's a cactus 'duhhh'. I live in the San Joaquin valley and I put my poor cactus outside in the sun in the middle of the scorching summer. Before i knew it, it turned completely white and pretty much got cooked going from my desk to being against a hot sunny wall. I think for me its sad because I've never really lost any other cactus other than that first one and if I didn't go online for help I'd probably still have him.

"Very, very old" Those huge caudiciforms are all illegally field collected plants decades old. ALL OF THEM. Where did you get them from? Not Lowes, that's for sure.

  • @PotsbyRobert

Hi there, of course they are not illegal and I do not associate or agree with any illegal plant activity whatsoever. I would never purchase a poached specimen and would never be a part of that. They were either grown from seed from a grower or collector that I bought from or were from a nursery. And also there are so many places to purchase rare plants if you know where to go in the plant community besides Lowe’s...it’s more about the connections you have to be able to find what you’re looking for. I hope this answers any concern you have with this subject. Furthermore, please consider that there is a way to respectfully ask a question without making such a negative impression. We would appreciate it if any further comments are made with respect as we hope to only keep a positive and polite plant community here. Thank you and have a nice day. 💚
