I completely forgot about marketing assets. I'm really happy it worked out somehow! In a couple months I should have an Arcade Mode that's more focused on the mechanics and replayability, less on the story. For people that don't like reading walls of text :D

@@Rarykos Little too early yet to tell if it's better. Part of what made the original so fun was its relative simplicity. The fact that units have morality (and by the looks of it, maybe strength?) stats to worry about might be a turn-off. However, I'd have to actually play it in order to form a constructive opinion on the matter. I'll wishlist on Steam and see if I'll have time to check it out later.

Should be able to zoom in on the squares and just see smaller squares fighting lol!

Black company is a solid reference

Huge respect for your support of those smaller games! Definitely looks interesting. Wonder why they didn't go "all in" with art, since it's really good. Smaller units and stuff could sell the game much better.

I would have to agree, having sprites or figures instead of squares for units would make this game a big visual appeal for me as well.

Seconded! I was really intrigued by the game but then I reached the battle screen and thought "that's it? squares?". Considering how charming and full of personality the rest of the art is it was a real let-down. I hope they'll go with proper units art because then I'll likely buy this game.

@@Synith19 Yeah, agree. I think this minimalistic style not only looks great, but also simplifies battlefield. It's easy to see what's going on. I think having complex style for units would actually be worse.

Simple art style will provide better exeperince in the loooong run.

As a Battle Brothers fan (600+ hours) the title drew me in but this title feels too abstract for me. I salute the devs for using some interesting and different mechanics though.

Language: anglo-saxon. What a lovely small detail fitting with the medieval theme

(Annals of the Black Company - by Glen Cook. Great books! Glad to see them in the game =P )

Games were well and truly ahead of their time; honestly you could update the 2D sprites / background art, remaster/rerecord sfx, ost and throw in some quality of life tweaks and those titles would hold up today , throw in a sandbox campaign ala immortal empires and ohmygoodnessgraciousgibbedepussyb0ss

The Golden Company (Złota Kompania) lasting longer than one scene? Impressive!

The black Company was a series written by Gleen Cook about a ban of mercenaries and its a fantastic series even with the side story books. That group in this game and their description is totally fitting and in my opinion a good shout out to them. XD also my fav book series.

I immediately recognized the layout. It's been a long time though.

I gotta say, I was getting flashbacks to the old Avalon Hill board game Caesar at Alesia--except with sausage. Very cool stuff.

For a second, I thought this was a re-upload. I watched another youtuber do this game a couple days ago. Still excited to see Mr Splattercar cover it

Did anyone notice that the banner during the battle is the banner for the grudgebringer infantry from Warhammer Shadows of the Horned Rat?

This is visually simplistic and I love it. Although at first based on the premise and the title I thought it would be like BattleBrothers which is also one of the game I enjoyed playing. I'll give this one a try.

Zlota kompanias flag is totally a shoutout to the grudgebringer infantry flag from shadow of the horned rat. Apparently someone was a fan.

Oh wow, i love this games presentation *and* its game mechanics! Usually its one or the other, looks good and plays generic or plays unique and looks like every other fantasy game. If youre reading this developer, well done this is great!

The winter was harsh, and we were short on tits. The fighting mechanics here feel fresh over the usual grid based "tactics" that I had my fill of decades ago. There is hope in the world of indie games.

Been following development loosely since the original itch prototype, neat to see it here, and how much it's grown since was actually playing the second itch prototype not long ago as research for game mechanics, cus I was wanting to make an army-scale battle kinda deal and this one really stuck in my head for the 2-odd years since I first found it

Wow I was just thinking about making a mercenary game as my first project

The game could add "art packs" that have additional campaign content + an art pack to stylize the units rather than the boxes that serve as the current placeholder. I'd buy them at a low price of $5. There could be 1-3 art packs and I think that would be a nice extension.

I don’t think they’re placeholders, rather replicating the battle maps for example in the BazBattles channel.

"3 days to next update" - wow, thats very brave (from dev standpoint) :D ... but so cool (from player perspective) - now I want all games to have this :D Also love most of the art style - only those top panels dont look to completely fit there and that parchment border/shadow/background could use some work too but overall its good start.
