Taylor, you caught me off guard dropping another video this fast!!!!! How dare you??????😂🥰
Great idea for a video like this. It should help hikers to think before the trail head.
The MSR Lighting Ascent snow shoes are AWESOME for up in the whites. They are $$$, but totally worth it, IMO. - Thanks for the great video, as always.

I actually prefer the Evo Ascents to the Lightning Ascents due to the tendancy of the lightning's metal edges to catch on the other snowshoe and cause tripping, whereas with the evo's slanted plastic decking it just slides off if you step on your other snowshoe. Evo is also about 3oz lighter and a lot less expensive. Only thing I like better about Lightnings are the binding system. Having said that any MSR snow shoe is a better choice than those TUBBS aluminum tube snow shoes which have no lateral traction and little vertical traction, and are useless on steeper ascents where traction on snow is essential.

@@johncramer9564good points, John. I haven’t personally tried the EVOs, but I’m sure they are great. I think all the MSRs are a good choice.

Either the Lightning Ascents or the EVO Ascents would be an excellent choice. I’ve had good luck with the Lightning Ascents and enjoy the “televator” feature to reduce calf fatigue on climbs.
Fifth one. But i was notified while watch a hiking video for older, me, hikers. I am sooooo happy you are safe. This past weekend in the Whites, 03-09-2024 was terrible for hikers and skiers.
Another informative video. Enjoy Florida, we are two months. Retired and spending our kids inheritance.👍👍👍
Thanks for more great content!
Thank you for this video - it was helpful :)
Ive been following you for a few years now, and younare by far one of the smartest hikers who really thinks through the "what ifs". When i think of the last few news reports of rescued hikers off Washington and other sites, the reports stated, not well equipped for the hike and conditions. No one would say that about you. I wrote down some pf your gear and appreciate the work you do for the videos. Thanks for sharing another great video. 👏👏
I’m using Crescent Moon 9 snowshoes which are now renamed to Sawtooth 27, love them! Made out here in Colorado, I’ve had them over 20 years and I use them almost every weekend in the winter. Had them upgrade to the newest bindings the other winter, easy to use and never need adjusting once strapped in, even on longer 10+ mile hikes. Nice idea about the hand warmers!
I like how you roll Taylor, thoroughly prepared. And how appropriate you filmed this in Tailored Trails! 😀 Those emergency blankets are invaluable and work incredibly well. Great gear! ✌️
Absolutely brilliant work, once again you nailed it! Your content is brilliant!
Taylor, thank you very much for making this and all your other videos. They are very much appreciated!!!!
Spring is coming and I'm dreading the bugs. I'd like to see your take on how to deal with those nasty little things.
I’ve been using the Atlas Helium BC (Backcountry) shoes in the Whites this winter and have been mostly happy with them. My complaints are you need to be careful with the heel lifts, one popped out and broke the rail attachment. Also the binding straps are long and pretty manual, making them a little annoying to adjust and strap on to your pack. The crampons grip very well and have saved me on a few steep parts.
TY 💙
So cute 🤗😇
Got it on the hoods! lol. That looks like a pretty good outfit, with plenty of backup if needed. I use snow goggles when it gets super windy; eyes can actually freeze and it's not nice. I saw you have an emergency blanket in your first aid kit too, as well as the emergency bivy.
Love this video and will skip over to check out your retail :)
Happy pi day. Wordle in 3. How about you. I saw your Mt W hike and wish I had such elevation change here in PA. I love the rain jacket. I wear a brimmed hat because I have glasses. You did the hike perfectly. Hike on!
Very helpful video thank you. I don’t have experience with snowshoes & spikes do this was very informative. ❤😊
It is great you brought survival gear - just in case. Thanks for sharing.
MSR Evo Ascent has worked well for me in NH. There are lighter/more expensive options but they work.
Awesome gear list
Taylor...I enjoy your videos......As far as snowshoes goes...I used to wear the Tubs but the binding straps kept loosening up or the SS would completely come off. This happened once on the New path going down from South Doublehead..The SS took off down this steep section of trail. Trying to tighten up the straps did not work what with the cold and snow preventing the strap to be flexible to adjust. I now use MSR SS ..I have both the Evo Ascent and the Lightening Ascent...both do well.
How did you get your Melazanas? They won't send me one; so I am going to have to fly from Florida to Denver then drive through Leadville to their store on my way to Moab to rock climb.

I went to the shop because i have family that lives there. There's plenty of other companies that make very similar midlayers with the same materials if you don't want to go out of your way. Lightheart gear, burgeon outdoors, mountain hardware..
Awesome video! I'm glad you covered your emergency gear you took with you. So many people pack only for the hike they plan to take( if anything at all). For a content idea, how about doing vlogs on the high points of the states? Some are a 🍰!
Your winter hikes r alot harder than my winter hikes 😂
MSR Ascent Snowshoes
I recommend MSR Lightening Ascent snowshoes. 25% off at REI until 3/31.
5th!!!! 👍👏🏻🥳🥳🥳
How do you find the liner socks help out? I picked up a pair but haven't felt the need to wear them. I also realize maybe I'm missing out.
Watching,,, # fourth one here 😅
I think you’ll find snowshoes with heal lifts or climbing bails are better suited for the hiking you do. I also am in the market for new snowshoes and have been watching for a sale on something in the Tubbs flex line or Msr lightning assent ( there’s a pair of 25” women’s lightning assents at the ll bean factory store in Freeport for about half of retail ).
Are you following any thru hikers for 2024? If so can you give them a shoutout ❤🥾🚶♀️
I don't like hoop style snowshoes as they suck for side hilling. The MSR Lightning Ascents are popular for mountains as the whole edge acts as a crampon. I have the extension tails and had needed to use them a few times.
Another vote for MSR Lightning Assents
