My name is Ross, and I got in an accident on December 20th (stayed in the ICU for a while) and it caused damage to my brain and my motor skills. I can no longer walk without braces on my legs and assistance, and can no longer open my hands (all my muscles have contracted down and can only extend with someone prying them open). I'm 15, right at the age where i'm starting to get more independence, and I can't even brush my teeth on my own. But I know this will hopefully be recovered in about a year. Before this happened I rock climbed, mountain biked, hiked, went backpacking, and watched your videos. Your videos are the only thing keeping me going in physical therapy, I've told my OT and PT about your videos and how they make me want to get better so one day I can once again take my dog to the woods and go camping. I just wanted you to know how much of a difference you really do make, you deserve to be shown the appreciation. Thank you, I really do mean it.

I'm from the QC/ON area as well, so the way you talk, the places you go ...the stereotypical nice Canadian guy personality, all his home and feels entirely REAL. Unlike a lot of these other, bushman/bush living type of videos, where it feels staged or rehursed. I love watching your wins and ur fails! Cause we can all relate on some level. You're awesome.

Interesting observation. It is my belief that the clean language on these videos is one component that really appeals to us in an era when many good things seem to be slipping away. Clean living, self-reliance, a desire to experience nature--all are reflected in these experiences; not to mention a commitment to documenting everything on video, a task that can really be a pain when you don't feel like doing it.

hey Joe :-) Big hugs to you and scout. I just lost my 12 yr old mountain dog on dec.30th. I raised him from a puppy and took him up every logging road, and on every lake, around Nelson, BC. He chose to leave this earth in the back of the truck with me and my ex husband next to him, all touching, for the first time since the divorce. We were reminiscing about truck camping when it happened, 5 minutes before the vet was about to put him down. He gave us the gift of bringing the pack together one more time after 5 yrs apart, and the gift of not having to put him down. This video really struck a chord and brought me comfort. I fell asleep to it one night remembering my old pack together in the bush. Thank you and strength and peace to you in this difficult time. xo

I saw the video on the news of scout and didn't get to it. I'm now watching this. My good boy is 15 and he's blind, almost deaf,he lately has accidents in the house far more often, and he's thin and just had a couple seizures for the first time. I have a vet appt. soon but I know he's nearing the end. I have to watch him outside when I let him out so he doesn't wonder too far. But it's all worth the hassle because he's given us a long life of happiness and support with the kids and their personal time with him and my own personal time with him. These silly dogs bring so much joy. When his time comes I'll be sad but more than anything I'll be happy remembering the life he gave us.

I had to have my soulmate dog put to sleep Sept 29th 2018 and its been the hardest thing Ive ever dealt with. But something happened that has made me not grieve quite as hard. The very first night after losing him, I slid my legs under the covers in bed and was adjusting my head when suddenly he walked across my legs! 4 little feet, one at a time, 1 even slid down the side of my leg to the bed. I immediately froze when the first foot stepped on me, in shock that this was happening. Thank you Poopy for letting me know that you still exist, just not here in the flesh. Until we are together again...I love you.

I'm so happy that you took him on this last camping trip with you: he was so happy just to be there with the human he was assigned to guide. Admit it-you became a much better human being because of Scout. I know I did. Dutch shepherds are different and Tripper may never develop the intense focus that Scout had on you, as they are much more self and job focused in general. As in all relationships, you will both grow as you accept your strengths and shortcomings. Thanks for keeping this video up, as seeing Scout did my heart good. Stay safe and hug your wife, kids, and your amazing Tripper-all the rest is just bullshit.

Oh Mate, brilliant yet heartbreaking! You can sometimes miss just how perfect and priceless the simple moments can be. I suppose everybody wants to talk about their dog but I love that you have the nous to just be normal and not freak the poor guy out.... My guy was called Ben and he was a brother to me, we grew up together. When I was older, I had to spend time away (I was mostly away)...but two days before I'd get home, he would start a watch on the gate; when I would finally arrive, he would run around whining and keening soo bat-crazy that nobody could touch him for about 20 minutes! So much more...but I'll finish with this...he had a good death; he was a good old age and failing, he sat out in the sun and one of the cats came and made friendly, rubbing under his muzzle (my Mother told me), then he went and laid down on the front lawn in the sun...where they found him later, not even a kick mark on the grass, birds singing, breezes blowing.... 'nuff said. PAX Dude

Scout is a very cool dog and you are obviously a very caring dog owner. German Shepherds are amazing animals and some of the most loyal dogs ever. It's awesome that you planned this trip around keeping him as comfortable as possible and he's clearly having a great time. This video may have been meant to be about camping, but it shows more about the love between a dog and his best friend. Great job Joe and Scout. Bless you both.

Good Vid Joe, coming from a working dog background myself, it's always a good idea to get your next pup before you loose your old dogs. The older dogs bring the pup on and teach them loads and you'll always keep a bit of your old dogs within your new pups. #just a thought for you.

Hi, Joe. I'm watching this on March 8, 2019 and hadn't seen it before. So good to see you and Scout out together. He had such a strong personality and seemed to understand everything you said to him. Wonderful outing for him when he was feeling good enough to enjoy it. Your food looked yummy and so did Scout's! Smart move to get off the "frozen" lake when you did. So sorry about your loss. I saw the video that you did about his last days and wept with you and your other commenters. He was a "good boy" and had a great life with you and your family. I'm staying subscribed and looking forward to your next adventures. At times like this, it's okay to keep moving on. Take care, Joe. :0) Donna B.

Joe, a week before you posted your lymphoma diagnoses video I noticed enlarged lymph nodes on my dog. When your video dropped I had a horrible feeling that we shared the same fate. A couple weeks ago it was confirmed as lymphoma. My dog is a mix between a golden retriever and a German shepherd, and I've had him since sixth grade, and lymphoma sucks ass. He's 14 years old, and much like Scout, is perfectly healthy besides the cancer. I'm not really sure how this will help you in any way. I'm sure it must kind of suck to have all these comments reminding you of that elephant in the corner every time you drop a video. I guess I just wanted you to know that at least one other person is in it with you. Good luck.

Mixed it all up and force fed it to him down his throat. He hated it...but lived for 6+ healthy happy months. The ingredients contain a cocktail of anti-cancerous, phytonutrients that combat cancerous tumors/growth. Wish you and your pup well. Message me w any questions.

So true it's soul crushing. Even after my buddy was given only 4 months to live he never acted sick or weak. His only sign was when he tried to poop and hardly could. He had prostate cancer which squeezed his colon. He dropped from 120lbs to 60lbs in the 6 months he survived after diagnosis. He hiked and swam for hours daily, 3 or 4 hours swimming 2 days before he needed to be euthanized. That appointment was rescheduled weekly until the suffering started. My vet came to my house with her tech which was so much better for every living being involved. I denied that he was getting worse and insisted he was getting better, I think we all get that wishful thinking. It's been since 2017 August 3rd and just recently I've been able to talk about him without losing a grip. Keep your head up, my friend. I know how hard it is.

Scout would not want you to be sad and neither do we. Don't be so hard on yourself. When his time comes your life will never be the same. But it will get easier as each day passes. You have a beautiful happy baby to cheer you up. I'm not telling you not to mourn when the time comes. However, If it were me ? I would go out and get another German Shepard puppy immediately ! In honor of Scout. I think Scout would like that. What do you think Joe? You, Scout and your family will be in my prayers. Be strong like Scout. There is no wrong or right with the tin foil sides. There is no difference in using it. During the rolling process of tin foil, it will be overlaid to roll it. The side who gets in contact with the roll becomes shiny. The other side who is in contact with the other tin foil becomes dull. I work in the aluminium industry, so it's no doubt about that and 100 % proof. 😁👍

The shiny side is there from milling where the foil is directly heated on one side and stretched through rollers, removing the oxidization and essentially polishing the surface. You can make the dull side shiny simply by deoxidizing it using the friction from something like a pencil eraser. I've always used the shiny side because oxidized aluminum dust has been proven to be toxic to humans.
