How do you intro new dogs to your home? I have a sporting line boy who’s 8 months and hoping to get a bitch sometime next year. Anything to be aware of when managing two Stafford’s in a home? Would love to hear your thoughts on that topic In general! Cool channel

SBTs are so cool in so many ways. Did you get yours from dog-friendly lines? I hear so many different things regarding the breed and DA. THat's my only real concern along with health issues to look out for.

You won’t find any dog friendly line’s it’s a Staffordshire bull terrier 😂 but you will get friendly ones who are soft every now and then but defo not a friendly line

I suggest looking into breeds that aren’t naturally dog aggressive. Staffords (like many other terriers) were selected to kill. They were also used in dog fighting. Buying a ‘boring’ show line dog because you don’t desire the breed’s original traits makes no sense to me. DA in the stafford is perfectly manageable unless you want to have meet and greets with other dogs on the daily. My dogs are not reactive and are perfectly fine when introduced from a young age. Show line dogs are less likely to develop dog aggression than working line dogs, but since they’re genetically predisposed it is not a guarantee. And show line dogs usually come with an array of health issues.

@@sportingwithstaffords I hear what you're saying and I generally have not dived into bull-and-terrier breeds for these reasons. The SBTs seemed like they might be fairly exceptional but I have heard disagreements between breeders, trainers and others familiar as to whether or not SBTs are DA. For that matter there seem to be a number of other terriers that are less DA than previously thought but that could depend on lines too. And as you know, some breeds have sporting/working lines whereas others have practically none. I like working lines precisely because I trust the communities to do better by selection for structure and health than in the show world. Show dogs are filled with unhealthy exaggerations in appearance and greater numbers of genetic problems, temperament problems etc, that simply turn me off. These are dogs, not sculptures and should be respected as such. My previous dog was a working line kelpie. His outline was all DOG and he was healthy until he wasn't. He died last year at age 15. It was cancer and it was quick. Until then, I had small vet bills compared to a lot of my dog-owning friends. No joint tears, no adrenal issues, colitis tendencies though. He needed a special diet which was lousy but that was it. He had a COI of over 20% and that happens. in working lines as much as show. That said, working lines are not free of issues. They have less though. They're biological beings. Nothing is perfect. Also I get the reference to wanting a breed but not respecting it's original purpose making no sense. When it comes to DA specifically, I don't think anyone really desires that anymore outside of certain communities in certain countries that keep it legal. It's simply redirected into more acceptable areas today (hunting other prey, bite work, weight pull, tires, etc). There are groups where I am that go out and hunt rats in the night. Actual rat hunts. Terrier owners from Patterdales to Bedlingtons.

I love these dogs so much! This is kind of off topic but how much hate/misinformation do you run into daily because of your breed of dog? I have owned 2 Amstaff mixes and most people see them and get really scared of them or call them American pitbull terriers and I have to correct them and explain to them that just because my dogs look like pitbulls doesn’t mean they are one. I love all dogs including pitties and staffies and I’m wondering how you avoid the stigma? I usually say that all dogs of any breed can be aggressive, don’t single one out

Because it was -4 degrees C. That kennel is in our house too, and they choose to sleep in it together on colder days
