Winter Camping In An Ice Hut With Wood Stove

Back on Valentines and Family Day, Rebecca and I bring Trek along with us for an overnight stay on a secluded lake in the Kawartha Highlands Park.
Although the fishing was no good, we enjoyed two beautiful winter days in the outdoors.
Hope you enjoy, be sure to like and subscribe!

How great! I haven't camped in my hub yet, but have been thinking about a wood stove for the low tech cooking/heating/entertainment option. I might be able to talk my girlfriend into it with a d-lux setup like this. Also, she calls putting Bailey's in her coffee "weekend creamer" haha.

Nice setup! What stove jack and wood stove are you using?

Hey thanks for watching! The stove jack I made myself using welders blanket and some velcro. The stove is a US Caribou knockoff, I would not recommend a stove like that, the flue is too small with improper airflow, so it requires well seasoned wood. I've switched it for an Esker/Knico which burns alot better and longer. Hope that helps you out, and enjoy the upcoming season.

Is the fishing the Kawartha Highlands usually better? Thinking about getting into backcountry fishing this summer and thought this is a pretty good place for a noob camper

Hey, thanks for watching Robert! I've done day trips in boats and kayaks on the West side of the park, near mississauga/catchacoma/gold/cold lakes etc. And do well with the bass. I'm slowly learning how to catch trout, so that's always hit or complete miss with me. Once you get away from the lakes with motorboats, I would say this is a great park for backcountry fishing. I hope you have a great season. Cheers, Ryan.

Cool camping videos. Hope you have a carbon monoxide detector. Cheap insurance for safe camping.

Thanks for watching man, and the positive feedback... I do bring a household CO alarm, but I may look for something better, the PPM setting is a bit high still for the alarm, I'd live, but I think I'd still get sick. Thanks again!
