Winter Camping in -5°C: Geodesic Hot Tent & Folding Woodstove
Ойын-сауық
Join me on a sub zero winter camping trip where temperatures drop below freezing at -5C. I setup the dome tent, and keep warm using a folding woodstove. I cook up multiple small meals on the woodstove throughout the night.

“Pro” tip for hot tent stoves, place an appropriately sized metal scouring pad into the top of the chimney instead of using a large spark arrestor. The airflow is as it should be, you’ll never get a single burn hole on your favourite hot tent and it’s much smaller and lighter.

Fabulous idea

Interesting. If the stove comes with an arrestor, I'm not sure what I would do.

Great idea, thank you. Do you burn in first, or doesn't it matter?

@@irvsstella You’re welcome. I didn’t burn mine in, I use roll up chimneys so all I do every time is make sure one of the rings is right below it for a good friction hold.
I absolutely love this channel, not only is the cinematography and sound beautifully done but you keep things really approachable and down to earth. There is none of the usual showmanship and trying to be extreme, it's just a relateable chilled out love of the great British outdoors :)

Thanks!
I really like the removable floor. It's so annoying to have to clean out a tent with a permanent floor.
Hi Mike! I'm 12 and we talked a while back. For the holidays I got Dave Canterbury's set of four Bushcraft books. And that got me thinking. Have you thought about writing a Bushcraft book? I think you're one of the best people for that. You are great at explaining things, and you're also good at demonstrating how to do things. Well, please consider this..... You did a great job with the video. Thanks!😀

Hello! Thanks for the kind feedback and great to see someone your age getting out there and learning Bushcraft. At the moment, videos are my priority, book writing can take up a significant amount of time and I wouldn’t want to stop making videos in order to write a book just yet. But I appreciate your kind feedback. Keep on learning!
Iv seen other people fill hot water bottle like u did. Try this . Lay bottle flat and tilt top up so u can pour the water in. With filler stil tilted up run a hand from bottom to filler to expel any air.stil keepin tilt on filler neck screw in the plug. And u should have a nice hot bottle with out any traped air which cant then expand as it warms up.

I fill mine up as usual and then expel the air by pushing the meat of the bottle against something with my body until the water is topped off while I cap it, both ways work though. Never leave air in the bottle, imagine seriously scalding yourself in the middle of nowhere!
I'm expecting Jaxx to camp with you Mike but still a great video to watch.
Awesome video and what looks like a great night in the outdoors. 👍🏻
This is perfect for a newbie like me. Thanks, TA Outdoors.
"Eck-in-aye-sha" is the pronounciation 😁 Really enjoyed this one, that food look great and the tent very cozy. Good company and a great way to relax before a busy week 👍
Thanks for the video Mike!
What a nice change of pace. Thanks!

Excellent tent! Added it to my wishlist!😊
I really liked this one bro ... peaceful
I’d really enjoy seeing more videos of you camping with shelters that you build
Our HIGH temps this week haven’t yet risen above -11C. I’d love to see -5 soon.
absolutly awsome Video . Send you lot´s of Love from Scotland
Great video.
Love the sound of the wood echoing as it cracks, satisfying 😌

Great camp, your cookup looked so delicious and that’s a real nice looking hottent. Totally Awesome as always. 👍🏻
Love the tent Mike. Great set up! That stove is a godsend I'm thinking 🤔 . Thanks for an enjoyable video. Cheers !
That stove pipe thing is SO cool.
Those are some really neat luxuries you have there. I love the chair and the table, but that lamp is really ingenious. One of the features of your uploads that I enjoy the most is when you start to cook.😊
Amazing stuff
Awesome tent
This is really what everyone wants for a camping trip، everything was perfect, I really enjoyed it 👌🔥🤘🍻💯
Nice setup! It is pronounced eck-in-ay-shuh. 😂

Haha thanks 😅
I have to say this seems like a sick tent. The little stuff like the optional floor (and with a spot for the stove) just really well thought out overall. Impressed by it for sure,
I do like that stove😊
I like the removable floor on that tent, easy cleaning later on.
Great vid mike love the old school camping vids. ATB mate hope the fam is well. Sam
I would ALWAYS choose to purchase the floor panel. Fire up the stove and the frosty ground starts to get wet.
Good thing I had a snow day so I can watch this
Always find your videos very relaxing and not over the top with promoting gear. More of an average guy just want to get away for a bit for a mond reset. Very inspiring. Looking forward to seeing how the workshop is coming along. Thanks
Good stuff. Well filmed and presented. As an "older" ex wild camper no one these days seems to explain how how to clean your utensils and cooking gear which i think can be one of the most important aspects. Your thoughts ?
That's a nice size tent.
Good afternoon from Syracuse NY USA brother
Lepo, lepo...
Thats great mike 👍 nice set up there with the little wood stove
Love it, thanks Mike. Miss seeing Jax. He's a good boi....
Just because I'm an herb nerd, and you might be interested: Echinacea is a native American wildflower, also called "coneflower". They have large purple (sometimes yellow) daisy-like flowers. Indeed, they are closely related to daisies and even closer to sunflowers. The flowers are a traditional treatment for colds and inflammation, and are thought to boost immunity. They can also used as a wash for burns. Coneflowers are prairie flowers with very long taproots, which are also used medicinally, but less often, usually for pain relief and oral complaints (like toothaches. I'm sure your tea was just the flowers.
love your videos! :)
SHOUT OUT FROM CACHE VALLEY UTAH ...ABSOLUTLY LOVE YOUR CONTENT! BEST OUTDOOR CHANNEL I EVER WATCHED OVER THE YEARS YOU AND YOUR GUESTS HAVE TOUGHT ME SO MANY THINGS I HAVE NEVER EVEN THOUGHT ABOUT . JUST WANTED TO SAY THANKS FOR YOUR DEDICATION AND LOVE TO TEACH OTHERS . CHEERS MY GUY AND STAY SAFE!!!!!
Wow man! Did you camp out just last night? Super! Thank you for sharing.
I enjoy your video, because they represent, me.. Cheers from Chanhassen, Minnesota, USA. Skillet
Very high-tech video, with the dome tent, chair, table, robot light... Looks like something from Star Wars. Excellent work.
This temperature is almost exactly what were're expected to get in Austin tonight: glad you pulled through it.
Same temperature here on Vancouver Island in the last week
Very nice greetings Aruba
Nice hot tent Mike, thanks for taking us camping. For 32mins,instead of a hot water bottle you could have taken jaks with you 😂

Woof! Jax. Woof...
So different to my world right now, heat and humidity in Eastern Australia. And I have NEVER had ground soft enough to push tent pegs in by hand 😂 Thanks for taking me along on your adventures.
When we were in the scouts, we camped in a regular tent with no heater when it was -32C (-25F)
Just camped in mine in snow storm other day! With my mini stove
Was about to mention how cozy I'm in bed here in the Caribbean. But, I just realized you won't even be jealous!
i was with my family on a skiing trip to sweden this last week, and there wasnt enough beds in the apartment so i slept in -15 degrees celsius the whole week, and i lkoved it.
" Pro tip " get a brown paper bag with some kindling firefighter and some coal set an alarm for 2 am sleep... when alarm goes off just chuck bag in the stove go back to sleep will still be warmish in the morning.
Ech in a sher its pronouce mike for ur T bag 😊i feel warm watching got my stove going too 😂
Welcome to The Joy of Cooking...In a Tent. Today we're whipping up a couple of cracking, wintry tapas dishes, why not try it at home, or even better in the woods! Excellent content. Not to be a wine snob but it is my job, get down majestic and get something better than yellow tail, you deserve it!
😊good amina zed 😊happi nounours
We are going through a cold spell in New Hampshire ,USA it will be -5 F but up on the Mount Washington it will be -47 F this week end it is over a mile high you can walk to the top and skii down Tuckermans Reviene! 1300 foot vertical drop skied it since I was three years old it goes down and in a little bit too !!! But you must dress appropriately !!!! Love your videos thanks for sharing !!!
Super.
اشكرك على المحتوى المميز ❤
That was a really nice tent. Good to see you again. YT seems to be hiding people these days.
Nice vid, great gear. Ever consider laying large, dry rocks atop the stove to collect heat and radiate into the night? Thanks for another fun outing! Hope that you feel better soon.
I’ll just watch you from my heated home until spring. 😂
fun stuff
Ive seen some similar tents to this before. I like the size. Pleanty of head space in there.
Really surprised to see you blow up your pillow. I thiought you'd sorted out your pillow years ago. I love that tent!
Always love an old school camping video. It would be cool to see you doing more collabs with smaller youtubers!
I wish they made a log that would fit this stove or another bigger stove and it would last for 6-8 hours! Provide enough heat to keep the temp in the tent at well above freezing. It is good to sleep in the cool temps rather than hot. Then one could sleep straight through the night. If only! I have thought about a tiny wood burner in my Promaster “bedroom” conversion, but I will go with a diesel heater or something like that. Great video mate. Say hello to your dear old Dad from us here in USA! Thanks Michael for sharing and hope to see more of these and your woodland! Love and Peace!✌🏼
BIG difference between UK & N.America, Ukraine etc, is the fire wood, they use what we would call soft wood, fir tree's or spruce, fast burning wood when dry, where as in the UK it is hard wood, you burnt Ash on your stove, Ash will burn all night if damped down, hold its heat for ever more. Nice to view English spoken for a change, Will we get to see a camp started from scratch, living off the land?
Nice
I was NOT expecting to see you take a knife to your tent!
Mike. Talking about the cold weather I saw something on Kent Survivals channel and thought of your dad. It's the wearable sleeping bag in the 'solo snowy night in a weird Ali express tent'. I think your dad would be happy in it when fishing. 😄 As for catching some virus, I've just had the flu and I hated it. 😠 just the after affects to get rid of. See you next video. 😀👍
For some reason you fell off my KZread radar. Glad to see you back and great vid. Love the cooking 😄

Welcome back!
Sir you are a a brilliant
I think it would be a good challenge to do an adventure with a tarp and clear plastic in a super shelter. I did that once at 29-34 deg F and it is an adventure...😊
That’s luxurious Glamping for you Mike 😂 the axe looks great. Good tip with the hot water bottle, I may use that😂
I love the hot tent camps Mike and this new tent is something else mate. Massive inside, reminds me of the sub zero tents in the U.S. that they use on ice lakes for fishing. Nice little Tapas meals on this one too pal, i could eat that German sausage every day, great in pasta and chilli. Loving the stove too mate, Im in the process of buying Matt's Onetigris stove off him as i want and need something light weight. Thanks pal, top video as always.
Drinking an Aussie red wine... We make some of the best reds in the world, but we only import the cheap ones and keep the best for ourselves!!! 😂😂
When taking down a tent I usually leave the windows and doors open, at least partly. Tent doesn't trap anywhere near as much air and it becomes significantly easier to roll up.
Really cool watch love that dome tent looked a cozy night where's jaxx the dog
You can actually add the hot water directly into your Nalgene bottle to save having to bring an extra hot water bottle.
