Just a quick reminder that if you like the videos and want to support my work: www.patreon.com/alluringarctic ! You do get a few nice perks as well. Yep another Patreon pitch but if you want to hear a secret, that is how marketing apparently works. Each time I talk about or ask people to consider becoming patrons, a few people might actually do it! But if I just place a link in the description and don't mention it anywhere else, no-one signs up. Yeah, not really a surprise, but if you're regular viewer and wondering why I keep mentioning it, this is the reason 😉

Is your type of skiing called Telemark?
@johnsonpa25
Жыл бұрын
@@solowinterwolf Technically, no, it's not telemark. Telemark is an older technology that uses a 3-pin binding that is attached at the toe and always loose at the heel. Juho is using a more modern "backcountry" or "touring" setup that allows the heel to be loose when going uphill and then attaches the heel for downhill skiing, so it is more like traditional alpine skiing. Sohvi is a snowboarder, so she is using a "split board" that splits into two pieces for uphill travel and connects together to go downhill. HTH,

Mention away. Your delivery is so soft and sweet that I can't imagine anyone could object. And your openness and honesty about the process of obtaining funds is heartwarming. I wish you well.
Fast-forwarding through your years of videos, I'm so happy that you two lovebirds are together. Nothing tests a relationship like physical hardship, danger, and close quarters. You warm my 75 year old heart.
Glaciers, snow and solitude, a nice break from 100+ degree heat and giant forest fires and world wars.

I’m currently boarding a plane at Heathrow, bound for Helsinki… your channel is the reason! You’re both so awesome I will spend a month in Finland and hope to meet people as epic as your good selves. Also there’s a lovely looking 42ft steel hulled cutter I have my eye on in Turku which I will visit. Probably won’t buy this one but soon! I sailed to Antarctica for a month of ski touring in 2020 on a beautiful 60ft expedition yacht named Icebird, and I swore I’ll return one day on my own yacht. Thanks for everything 😊

Absolutely stunning scenery. Your are really brave - if I saw this correctly you did the last mountain alone. In any event you can really be proud of your girl friend as she must be quite tolerant dealing with all the challenging nature. In any event your are currently probably one of the best channels of sailing there is.
Once again I must thank you for sharing this wonderful journey with me. Your cinematography is absolutely amazing. You and Sohvi could easily make full length documentaries on the beautiful places you both have visited. Forever have the wind at your sail. :]
Your knowledge of the environment you have is fantastic. And your ability to film wildlife in their natural habitat is simply superb. You should be on TV.
One of the only true sailing channels on utube anymore. Great scenery, funny dialog and lots of interesting adventures without all the drama and b.s. other channels seem to have to have to keep people interested. And it's nice seeing two young folks enjoying life without constantly drinking alcohol to have fun.
What’s up? C'mon and give these guys a thumbs up! After all their efforts making and sharing videos, they are worth a 👍🏽 don't you agree?

Man Juho surpassed himself in this one. The mountains, the dingy ride, the sea otters. So mesmerizing! Even the pasta looked yum haha
Bully bird - Barrow's goldeneye I think Squeaky bird - Black oystercatcher Common enough shore birds all along PNW to Alaska Nice vid. Wilderness at its best. Thank you.
Thanks for another beautiful video! ❤ P.S. “Squeaky Bird” at 9:15 is “The black oystercatcher is a large shorebird, with a black head, neck and breast and dark brown body, a long (9 cm) bright red/orange bill and pink legs.” 🎉😂
Nice descriptive ornithological bird identification there, Juhno. Great video!!

Another beautiful film. They keep getting better and better. It seems that most sailing channels focus on mechanical problems, drama on the boat with crew, and many other problems. It is especially nice when you are showing us how you get in and experience the beauty of the places you visit. Imagine that in the history of the world, no human has ever set foot on, or skied down those mountains. Thank you.
Beautiful scenery. Now I understand what you are after. Thank for sharing!
Awesome....My Dream Vessel is Aluminum Hull ...I'm stuck in N.C., U.S.A......Medical Issues, but in a few months I'm setting Sail....I'm Canadian/American.....Sea Life is the only way to live....Sailing and Exploring Uninhabitable Places....❤ Love your Channel....
You two already have more pretty amazing memories than most people will ever have.
In the Spring of 1996, I kayaked the Muir inlet for a week. Since then, I have tried to imagine what those places would be like in the 'dark' of Winter. I thought these musings would never be answered but your video gave me great joy to see what the experience could be. Your visuals replaced my dreary imaginings with a brilliant, beautiful sense of what that part of the world was like in the Winter. Thank you.
Beautiful scenery as usual. You are both masters with the camera. I can’t help but notice you both are meant for each other in just about every way . She doesn’t mind being away from civilization with you and you just love nature as raw as nature can get. You seem to have enough food and warmth to keep you happy. She has her books. My only concern would be that you two are in the middle of nowhere most of the time and safety plays in this concern. If she would have accidentally tipped over in those little rapids . How do you fight hypothermia? Stay safe … Love your adventures.
Hi, Hope sailing is going well. ❤ to see your videos.

The lady fascinates me more and more. She's like the most intense version of the passive aggressive person while, I imagine? still being a real genuine decent human. Cool sub current to these vids for me. Love the good direct information and opinions and they it's not commercial. That's nice.

Sohvie is such a good sport with the many physical chores (such as rowing the dinghy). Both show some exciting skiing after a strenuous climb uphill. You are enjoying things to the fullest.
My life of adventures is winding down, and I live through your boating and skiing adventures mostly. I like the balance between excitement and safety that you both exercise.
Parts of this video are the most beautiful, so far.
Absolutely beautiful videography and presentation; And special thanks for the ways you let us share your sailing, boat handling, shipboard lives, climbing for your turns, and comfort and delight in a very special voyage. Grandpa went to sea at ten from Tallinn, Estonia, and sailed as a merchant seaman, all over the world, for twenty years, until 1903, when he bought a little farm in Oakland, California, not far from where you found your vessel Lumi. He never did "go to steam"... Grandma"s Lapp family herded Reindeer and trapped Salmon... Will you folks be sailing back to Finland via the Bering Strait and the Arctic Ocean ? Thank you for bringing great joy in following your adventure to thousands of people all over the globe....!
I love your videos! Thanks for posting them.
Squeaky bird with the orange circles around its eyes that match the orange beak is really cool. No need to search the galaxy for interesting alien oddities. We only need explore our own vast, amazing planet.
Wow, the shot 13:30 is stunning. Amazing video.
Liquid water seems like some kind of miracle of nature after watching your films.
It is truly wonderful to share your adventures. One of the very best youtube sailing channels for sure. Thanks you!
Another amazing video of your adventures. Thank you. I'm glad you're not including any Park Service interactions as in glacier bay you can't blow your nose without a ranger interrogating you. You are seeing it at its best. Winter
Love watching your videos! So different from most sailing videos on you tube! And really beautiful nature! Keep on sailing! Thnx!!!!!!!!

Your videos are getting Soooo good! We have followed you from the beginning and are loving your real adventures! Xx
Back in '77 there had apparently not been many large sailboats in Alaska just yet, some to be sure...but not so many we were not a novelty. Always had coffee on the stove and an invite for the dock-walkers. (Most often a little 'sweetener' in the cup) We wintered over in Ketchikan, I got a job as Mate on a Foss Tug over the winter and then took a 'leave of absence' in the early spring to head out again....well ahead of the thundering herd. Rowing out in the morning through skim ice to pull the prawn pot for breakfast is a very fond memory. You well know how much tastier they are that way. If you ever get down Portland Oregon, give me a shout. Be fun to hear your stories as well! Ex-Valkyrie.
the sky is incredible, and the skiing amazing..wow
Superb cinematography, great historical content and as always the reticent and somewhat uncomforable Sohvi. She ADDS to this. Thank you for this and exploration of roads less travelled.

"Em ain't rubber boots, those are Ketchikan tennis shoes. I sure loved seeing your video of the Bay in winter. I spend a good bit of time there in '77 and again in '80 aboard my Herreshoff schooner. One of the back country rangers took me to the place Muir built his cabin in front of the glacier, which has receded around the bend out of sight. There were only traces of the foundation rocks there by then, in the middle of an alder hell...It is quite likely 'lost' now. Mis-management of the noise of the boats that take the rangers out to the cruise ships has pretty much kept the humpbacks out of the Bay then, I've no idea if they ever delt with that. We didn't need permits to enter the bay with our boat then...and could stay as long as we liked. -Veteran '66-68
