I mean other Card games have ether Poor ruling interactions (Yugioh and Pole Position) or have resources that make Infinite Loops next to impossible (Vanguard) whereas in Magic, rules are constantly updated to allow such interactions because in the end, if you can actually pull it off it's mostly deserved

@@SuperSayianWarrior Thing about Yu-Gi-Oh combos, they are more about cheating out a monster than creating an infinite resource. Like the two most iconic Yu-Gi-Oh turn ones/infinites (at least in my opinion) are exodia turbo and plant quasar turbo. Both of which basically (or in exodia turbo, literally) won the if you pulled it off. Turn one quasar is about on par with someone figuring out how to turn one emrakul, not technically unwinnable but scoop into game 2 is faster than the slow burn loss spending all resources on quasar (only to have to deal with shooting star if you successfully crack quasar) The problem is Yu-Gi-Oh has fewer ways to stop combos or interactions, and most of them are built into monsters you need on field to do (ironically Quasar is one of the strongest counter spells in the game, which is part of what makes him so Damn hard to break)

To be fair, it's literally like two steps, and it's static. Sac it for R, it comes back with persist, -1 and +1 cancel, so repeat. It gets more difficult to explain and demonstrate that it's actually infinite when it's more complicated, like a one card combo, such as Prossh (on cast, get 1 Kobold per mana spent) and Food Chain (exile a creature for 1 + it's CMC mana), or Chatterfang (B, sac X squirrels, target creature gets +1/-1; + make a token + a squirrel token replacement effect) and Pitiless Plunderer (when your creatures die, get a treasure). Exiling Prossh and a specific amount of Kobolds to recast Prossh takes a couple of iterations to demonstrate infinite Kobolds, mostly because of command tax. With Chatterfang, I didn't realize that you can give your own things +1/-1 to death to get the treasures, it still works. So it's still infinite treasures even if the only things on board are Chatterfang, Plunderer, two squirrels, and one treasure. Then of course, to a newbie Rings of Brighthearth/Basalt Monolith has a lot of steps. You tap Monolith for 3, pay 3 to untap it, pay an extra two to copy the untap with Rings, let one resolve, tap Monolith again, let the other resolve, repeat. Infinites do get complicated, and to be efficient you have to know your cards really well, know the game really well, or memorize the combo steps.

Your average magic player that isn't a total nut about the game is going to take longer because they may know the game but all of the layers in magic that go into how the game operates takes a ton of ability to process correctly. It's why I would prefer to play magic if it were to exist in its entirely on a stable online platform (arena isn't it) that did everything for you. However, there just isn't going to be anything that can get rid of playing with real cards face to face either. It's just that most people with combo decks are not going to be QUICK. If you're honest about how you play, I see no problem with a person making sure the table is on the same page as him/her.

Nope, the game is a draw. You are required to state the number of loops. If you say infinite, the game cannot resolve and thus ends in a draw. The opponent could have a redirect, like Reroute in his hands to change the target of the Flamewave Invoker, after all... (If you know he can redirect your googleplex loop, you can draw the game by stating the loop happens an infinite number of times)

Non-Magic player here and I must know: Has the "Hang on. I can win the game" line become a meme in the community? The delivery was perfect and so matter of fact. Just that moment he realised the domino line he built was ready to go off, brilliant.

It's all about how quickly they get pulled together and how much removal and counter spelling you need to deal with along the way. It's why green doesn't frustrate people as much even if the end result is practically the same.

According to the rules, declaring to use a loop an infinite amount of times means you just drawn the game. You MUST declare a finite number of times the loop runs, otherwise the other player never gets a chance to counter its effects.

A player taking optional actions "infinitely" doesn't cause a draw. It usually ends up in a judge being called, and if it persists, the player taking the actions must choose a different line-of-play, else they are removed from the game and lose.

IIRC you HAVE to name an actual number, you cant just say "i deal infinite damage". Its to make it so that infinite health combos can be killed by infinite damage combos EG "I gain 20 million health" "ok well i deal 21 million damage", otherwise you reach a game state where you claimed to gain infinite health, but actually do have a defined health total. On the damage side of things, if prof had some response that generated infinite health after the 5 trillion damage was declared, he could simply say "ok i gain 10 trillion health and am left with 5 trillion after damage."

Just for this we have a minute counter for turn. When someone tells me I do it infinite times and deal to you... I go - don't tell me what you can do, just do it - clock is ticking.
