Thanks for the review and relaying your friend's thought. I recently got rid of Wingspan with the first two expansions but may pick this up for the 2-player option.

Great helpful review. Thank you! I love base Wingspan a lot (play only against AIs on Steam). I like the idea of this 2 player version. First time telling you, though long time viewer, I love your saxophone serenades at the end of your reviews.

I really love playing wingspan with my wife. I’m excited about this expansion since I had heard about it but didn’t really investigate it. Sounds like a good fit to me. I think the issue with the modern board game scene is that there are so many good games that the more you acquire the less you actually get to play. I really enjoy learning my small collection and getting better at them and slowly adding a new one once in a while.

I agree with you but that’s a good problem to have :)

When played with 2p as expantion with the base game. Can you play with the duet board (and goal tiles) together with the base game as you know it ( with also the goals tiles for the base game) together? So you end up with 2 goal end boards on the table. The duet board and the green(or) blue score board (base game)

It’s meant to be played as a stand-alone 2p game but you can mix in bird cards from the base game. The whole reason for the board that makes it different are not only the bonuses but the goals that go with them. By adding the base game goals you could just ignore the board which would take away from what this 2p version does in my opinion

I felt this will make the game way too complex with too much to track in the game, but I suppose it will work. After all the best thing for wingspan is that it is short and concise, such that it just touches the point to stop by not adding too much or having too little. But doubling up the round objectives may contradict this point

Thanks for the review mate - given the price differential, is there any compelling reason to consider the base game over this when only playing 2p?

This looks great, but once using it as an expansion, can you play the duet mode with all the cards, rather than going through and separating the Asia cards?

Yes you could play with the duel board with all the cards. You just have to keep the goal tiles for Asia separated because they only have to do with the duel board

Hey man! Quick question and sorry for being late to the party. If you only ever plan to play with one other person, would you still recommend only getting Asia for the dedicated mode or has your opinion shifted? I still see debates about that and people who say that base game + oceania would be the better package but I always thought that dedicated 2p-modes work better for... well, 2 players. Plus the cost would be siginificantly lower.

I think if you only play 2 start with Asia and if you end up playing enough that you want more birds then maybe pickup the Oceania expansion

Lets say if i play the flock mode, then if i want to switch back to the duet mode, do i need to separate cards again? If so is there an easy way?

You shouldn’t have to change anything with the cards
