I’m so glad I’m not the only one who just wants a way to pair up those tokens. Maybe someone will think of a clever co-op version someday.

Off the top of my head, I’d change that board to have a bonus listed on the left-half of every spot. The first player to claim a spot gets the bonus and covers it. The second player doesn’t get the bonus…or might even have a penalty. But that change might require changes to round goals… OR, how about a co-op duet mode where there’s a bonus every time you pair up a spot? I’m just throwing out broad strokes of ideas here. No idea on actual implementation.

Great video! For everyone who loves wingspan I wanted to mention an App called Wingsong. When you use the app you simply scan the card and amazingly you get to listen to the sound the bird makes. It's brilliant - someone has spent a serious amount of time creating Wingsong. (Just to mention that I am not connected with the app creators.)

Only recently got into boardgames, and your channel has been a great help to look over potential games to play. I've asked for this for Christmas and am really looking forward to it!

I am glad to know I am not the only person to think that the choice of shape for the duet mode is bad. By choosing shapes that are meant to be put together make people think you can do this but no you can't. IMO, they should have just use disks to cover the spaces.

Wow I’m so impressed with this game. I’ve never played wingspan but always wanted to, I mainly play 2 player, and I have limited game space. This feels designed for me!

The boards are double sided - one side the same as base game (with new art) and the other side the same as Oceania.

Thanks for this one... I am sure it ticks of all the boxes for me to get his one. Great that an expansion can als be played as a stand alone. Kudos to SG for that.

I didn't realise that this offered a new 2 player version of Wingspan. That makes me way more interested in getting this.

I'm with Maggie, I want the yin and yang tokens so badly to be able to combine in the process of playing the game. Why were they designed to interlock if they're never supposed to interlock?!

Bought this as I mostly play games with my husband, so getting the better two-player experience for our household is really exciting to me! Plus I feel like everyone else owns the base game, so I can bring this one if we ever have a huge group to play! I also picked up Feast For Odin today! My husband and I played about 5 rounds to teach ourselves how to play… looking forward to our first complete play through of it! ETA: I used an exclamation point for every sentence above… which is cracking me up, but is so appropriate as I’m legitimately pumped to have both of these games!!

Hoping to try Wingspan Asia in the near future 🎉 2 players is also our favourite player count

Awesome teach and presentation! I'm very excited about getting this expansion! Thinking about challenges to beat the Automa at a higher difficulty, I wanted to ask you if you have both reached a 100 score, either solo or multiplayer?

I really appreciate your review. My husband and I only play solo or two-player games, and enjoyed our plays of base Wingspan, which we were able to borrow from a not-quite-local library. The smaller form factor and player count of Asia has therefore made it very appealing to add to our small collection. Unfortunately, it seems it will have to be the base game for us. The added complications to the AI would not be a good fit for me at all.

Never even thought about being able to travel with this game as a 2 player game. This unlocks a lot more playing time 🥹

"If you're tired of being beaten by your spouse-" SOLD! My wife beats me all the time at this. I've beaten her once.

I've already got the base and European exp on Switch and enjoy how it handles all the fiddliness, so I'd decided against ever getting the physical copy of Wingspan, despite how lovely it would be to hold those cards. So I'm excited this is standalone might the perfect opportunity to have a compact physical version. Nice.

@@Trevin_Taylor the physical game isn’t fiddly to me, but I have played both and I will say I like playing the app better because the game moves SO fast from shaving off all those seconds spent physically manipulating the items. Plus the app maintains the art work, adds some nice sound effects, and calculates your score for you. I never felt the need to purchase the base game, but I was super excited to pick this up for me and my husband to play!

I wonder how Flock mode would work at 4 players. Obviously it isn't designed for this but it could cut the time for a 4 player game in half. I also really prefer this at 2 players but have several friends that always want to play Wingspan so I love the idea of simultaneous play.

Great video, thanks! I appreciate hearing the draw backs. I'm also bummed that the yin and yang tokens don't have opportunity to come together. I'd be very interested to hear a cultural perspective on that. From my Western understanding of the yin and yang, I'd thought they belong together, representing balance? In the cultural context, are they anything when they aren't together? I can see how the Duet mode would be clunky for solo. I am ģetting really excited, I think this will be a great way to play 2p and the base game is quite fun at that player count, Duet looks like it will add nicely! One thing I'm not sure of. Seems to me some preview videos show a dice tower coming with Asia, but not all. Does it just come with the dice board? Would have been nice if it at least came with with cardboard tray... Wingspan Asia does come with a flat cardboard tray for dice. The Nesting Box comes with another Bird Feeder Tower.

I also thought about the yingyang split from a cultural POV, as not only they don't meet, but they're missing a crucial part of each having a bit of the other, i.e. the white dot in the black and vice versa. I thought about evoking that by having to place the white in the black and vice versa, but it doesn't make sense with the very binary split mechanics. Having to combine the B/W to beat the Automarazzi in the Oceania coop mode sounds more doable.

On the environment friendly front, I believe the eggs included are now wooden rather than plastic as well? (or that may be coming in the latest printing of Wingspan base box).

Yes, the red eggs in Wingspan Asia are made from wood.

@@ylein6508 Yeah, but all future eggs will be wooden, so the transition had to be made somewhere. Personally with all the eggs already from expansions, I doubt you'd run out of plastic eggs! If concerned, get a pack of the speckled eggs to mix in :-)

Yes, you can incorporate the Asia cards and play by the standard core rules. Everything is fully interchangeable.

The end of round goals included in Asia only apply to the Asia expansion using the Duet board. So you can't really play "just the base game" because you wouldn't have end-of-round goals or the original goal scoring board, unless you also have the original Wingspan base game.

I got base game end of round goal tiles on eBay. I am giving Wingspan Asia to my daughter & family at Christmas and they don’t have any of the other Wingspan games.

If you're never going to play with more people I would! Wingspan Asia takes up so little shelf space. The only downside is no bird feeder for the dice.

How do I buy my copy? Agree best @ 2 players maybe 3 So prolly won't evrr play flock mode
