@@venomgeekmedia9886 I'm surprised I have not seen an Eaglemoss model of this kick-a** ship produced...a model of this ship with the motion/conversation into the Thaylaron firing configuration would be awesome to build and desplay!! Even a dual model kit for each configurations would sell well.. Guess we will have to wait..🤔

I didn't realize the Eldar of the 41st millenium were taking potshots from the shadows in the Dominion War, hehe.

The Romulans needed to join the Dominion War anyway. If the Federation and Klingons had lost the war, both governments would have sought refuge within the Romulan Empire, followed hotly by the Dominion victors. Thus, the Romulans would have been invaded anyway, with no pier power to turn to for alliance. They had to join the fight.

Standard dickery by ol' Eldrad's standards.

The Federation were absolute fools not to defend and mine the wormhole much earlier. They found a tunnel that led to a malevolently hostile empire that was extremely powerful and which had genetically engineered warriors and let them bring in massive fleets, millions of troops and a huge amount of resources. And what’s more they knew they would be coming for over a year!

As a certain Vulcan would put it, “Fascinating.”

I'm a big fan of Nemesis and the Dominion battleship and it's fascinating to see the influence the battleship had over the design of the Scimitar. Great video!

What's extra amazing is Venom pieced all this together IN SPITE of What's been on screen

Not really sure how much firing while cloaked is a breakthrough when the Klingons could do that a century before.

I always imagined the Scimitar being a Tal Shiar "off the books" project to finish what Enabran Tain started. i.e. sneak into the Gamma Quadrant with it's superior cloak and stealth technologies, locate the Founder's homeworld, and destroy the founders with a thalaron pulse. The reason that Tain's mission failed was due to Founder infilitration, which was hard to avoid when secretely building a fleet of starships. But you might be able to secretely build one supership... And if the Scimitar did encounter trouble it was so well armed and armored and it's cloak so perfect that could either evade or win any battle it faces. Even if getting into the Gamma quadrant wasn't a possibility the Scimitar would have been a great weapon to end the war quickly if it devolved into a stalemate, which looked likely there for a while.

The thalaron array did not malfunction, it was directly attacked. Big difference.

simple the thalaron array was destroyed when cmdr data fired his phaser into its main primary generator when it was near full power causing the ship which it powered to be destroyed.

This is great!! It's like Star Trek nuances with Mark Felton!

One of the reasons the Remans had superior night vision is because they lived on the dark side of their home planet the Planet Remus and the reason for that is because one side of said planet always faced the Romulan sun which had 'Extreme temperatures on that side of the Reman Homeworld' as mentioned by Lt. Commander Data of the Starship Enterprise E.

Correction:The Scimitar's thaleron generator wasn't destroyed do to a malfunction it was because of Lt. Commander Data of the Enterprise E who sacrificed himself to save his shipmates by taking his phaser and firing into the thaleron generator on the Scimitar's bridge at point blank range effectively destroying the Scimitar but at a great loss of a great Starfleet officer and a good friend of the crew of the U.S.S. Enterprise.

I'm surprised the Romulan military didn't take more intertest in the Jem'Hadar's personal cloaking tech during the Dominion War. You'd think something like that would fall right in line with their base strategy. Given their love for cloaked infiltration and combat tactics in space.

If I’m not mistaken the Jem’hadar shroud was biological, not technological. For example, the newly grown Jem’hadar found by the crew of DS9 before the war was able to shroud without any equipment.

This is my favorite ST Lore channel on KZread; it's absolutely criminal you don't have more subscribers -_- Seeing a bunch of Eldar troops was trippy as heck though until I noticed your uploader note haha

@@venomgeekmedia9886 Yeah, 40K doesn't really do Subtle or Nuance, everything has to be bonkers over the top... though now I do have to chuckle at the thought of a Klingon warrior, seeing a Romulan Aspect Warrior, carving Jem'Hadar apart with a chainsword, then the Klingon looking at his Batleth and feeling kinda cheated

Great video! Really good job of explaining how the Scimitar came into being and filling in some of the blanks of the Romulan experience during the Dominion War!

If I'm not mistaken Data sacrificed himself to cause the containment field to fail after getting Picard teleported off the doomed sip,

The only Romulan ship in STO I will not swap appearance components onto. Leave the Reman scimitar pure in it's design as it's a classic.

Cloak aside a simple gravometric detection system would pick this up before it got anywhere near weapon range

Vreenak was killed as a result of a bomb placed on his ship by Garak as it left station DS9 so it would LOOK like a Dominion assassination. This had the effect of drawing the Romulans into the war.

Lol! But you are right Smith I was going to say the same thing, of course mentioning Captain Sisko's involvement too. I love these videos Venom Geek Media, they are amazingly well done!! Really fascinating. Where do you get all the minutia from for the stories? I love the case studies and the excellent breakdowns of the battles too.

Excellent vid; Scimitar gets a lot of unnecessary flak from the community but it seems perfectly reasonable to me. Dominion introduced a new class of dreadnought type ship, so naturally other powers would have to catch up with their own just like real life.

While the Scimitar was made to be easily superior to anything Starfleet had at the time, the Scimitar's battle with the Enterprise really didn't see it cripple the Federation flagship. Even after ramming the Scimitar, the Enterprise still had enough power move at impulse, if only slowly. As such, the Enterprise wasn't crippled. And given that it had used up all its photon torpedoes, but there is no mention on its quantum torpedoes, the Enterprise wasn't necessarily without weapons at that point, either... though given that the Enterprise had drained through what power it could send to its phasers by that point and done minimal damage to the Scimitar and its shields... even after the cloak was broke or disabled, the quantum torpedoes may not have helped much. Thus the ram and attempt at self-destruct Now, much of this has more to do with the fact that Shinzon was handicapped by the fact that he needed Picard alive. Thus why so many of his shots were aimed to try and cripple the Enterprise and wear down its shields. If he went all in... in much the way he did with the two Romulan warbirds, he would have risked destroying the Enterprise completely and as such, Shinzon would have succumbed to the genetic disease that Picard had before being able to secure power in the long term. Thus he had to hold back, at least until he could get Picard and thus handicapped his own ship, while Picard, trying to save Earth was under no such limitation.

The Scimitar hoplessly crippled Enterprise without it's shields being penetrated. Had the Scimitar's commander been simply ordered to hunt down and destroy any and all Federation vessels intruding into Romulan space, he'd have destroyed Enterprise easily.

@@TheBigExclusive no he didn't manton quantum torpedoes. ( phasers and photon torpedoes) was the line as far as ee saw enterprise only fired 9 quantum torpedoes. But the system may have benn damaged. ?

Last time I was this early, a dinosaur ate my homework...... Another awesome episode!!!!!!! As for that "malfunction" that destroyed the Scimitar--you mean the positronic android malfunction? lol The Romulans would call Data with a phaser a "malfuncton", tho, wouldn't they?

The Dominion did not kill the Romulan ambassador, Garrak did. He didn't tell Sisko the whole plan and planted a bomb on the Ambassadors shuttle. The Romulan's assumed the Dominion had done it because of the data rod you showed the Romulan holding in this video. It was a fake recording of a meeting Weyoun supposedly had with Damar about invading the Romulan Empire. There by betraying their non- aggression treaty. The Romulan's bought it because its exactly what they would have done roles reversed. Oh and the Scimitar's Thaleron Reactor did not malfunction Data shot it with a phaser after saving Picard, kinda a big deal for the story of the ship. :)

It wasn’t an illness that the federation had a cure for, it was because he was cloned and had been aged prematurely to catch up with Picards age. He needed genetic material from Picard to stop the accelerated ageing and stabilise his DNA.

I know you used the Dark Eldar images to illustrate your point but imagine the Romulans with actual Eldar/Dark Eldar equipment and technology. I doubt anyone would be able to oppose them

Eaglemoss has a Scimitar model...it´s even XL..somewhat. Sadly they missed the chance to make it the same scale as the Enterprise E

My favorite ship in trek next to the B'rel and D'deridex.

The wings are not manned. It's a small crew but it allows for massive cargo use and duration.

Didn't even get the basic facts right...the ship was destroyed by Data when he sacrificed himself saving Picard it didn't malfunction at all.

Why all the 40K Eldar, umm Eldari, space elves as illustrations in the vid? Why so much of it?

Late to the party, but I'll ask it anyway. To all who read this: what do you personally think of the Scimitar on a meta level? I don't mean how powerful or advance it was, but rather how fitting it was for its place and time. Also, what do you think of the accusations that Scimitar's tech and power being unreasonable to the point of it being silly?

the Scimitar is undeniably powerful. is it overpowered.... no. its big advantage is its cloak, and frankly that does seem a natural evolution of romulan tech. underneath its a romulan-dominion hybrid and bear in mind its size its probably about 3/4 the strength of a dominion battleship. so its onscreen performance i don't think is unreasonable.

@@venomgeekmedia9886 I personally agree for the most part about its conventional combat, save this: the perfect cloak in combat. I can buy into the idea of a perfect cloak during passive running, but not during battle. I know it does reveal itself momentarily, but I think Lore Reloaded had it right here: it shouldn't be a perfect cloak when its blasting out megatons worth of plasma. If I personally could rewrite the battle a bit, I would have the Scimitar's cloak having a limit whilst shooting. Maybe allow it to cloak/decloak with shields at full strength or having just a few seconds worth of cloak while firing before it fails and becomes visible. Something to prevent it from just pounding away while cloaked. I would have loved to have seen the Scimitar less what it was and more a giant bird of prey. Actually, it reminds me of Spacedock's hypothetical battle between the Scimitar and a Reaper from Mass Effect. Now that I think about it, I basically stole all of his ideas about the Scimitar.

@@deinekes9 I normally like Spacedock but that battle was dumb as hell, the Scimitar would destroy a reaper with its opening volley. It's so one sided that it's practically a spite match. Mass Effect is EXTREMELY weak for sci fi, their dreadnaughts spinal mass drivers (their most powerful weapon) is measured in the low kilitons for God's sake, A single photon torpedo is 125-150 times as powerful as a dreadnaughts main weapon, the Scimitar has 27 torpedo launchers.... A reaper is impressive in their own universe compared to the weak powers they compete with. A galaxy class could have done the same thing Sovereign did to the citadel fleet, probably worse because the galaxy wouldn't have to close to knife fighting range to start destroying ships, they have 250 torpedoes and every one of those fired is a dead ship, not even counting the phaser banks. If you highball the reapers to hell and back them maybe they're roughly equal to star trek except that mass effect shields do fuck all to stop energy weapons which is the primary weapons of ever single star trek power and pump out damage on par with that of their torpedoes.... Plus there's what, a few thousand reapers including the smaller destroyer types? So even if the entirety of the reaper fleet attacked a single Alpha Quadrant power they'd still be outnumbered by a technologically superior force using weapons 100+ times as powerful as the council races that their shields are incapable of stopping. It's not even close.

It's a warship not a truck, it should be as heavily armed as possible. The only thing he's compensating for is being outnumbered 10:1.
