Wingover Fail | BGD Base2 | Happy Ending

This is how NOT to do wingovers :P
Bad timing and not pulling the brakes before the glider collapse ends with a nasty cravat. To block autorotation I moved my weight to the side that was still flying and kept a little pressure on the left brake. It took me a few moments to find stabilo line and pump it. My instructor said that I could also perform an asymmetric front collapse and probably the cravat would be fixed by itself. Luckily I was high enough to recover and the glider was flying pretty fine despite the cravat and me trying to fix it. In the very end "Big ears" did the job. I have to practice my wingovers a lot but I'm happy I had the chance to deal with it without using my reserve or even perform a full stall.
Thanks for watching, Fly Safe :)

You need to pull outside brake quite a bit during wing overs to prevent outside tip collapse. It’s a minor cravat and you need to pump your brakes harder to release. If that doesn’t work then you. Need to grab the stabilo and keep pulling, and what I mean is pull hand in hand with BOTH hand s and eventually it will come out. That maneuver is sometimes called baba ganoush.

Thanks for the comment buddy..actually it was the first time i had to deal with a real auto rotation situation.. a couple of SIV's before that helped me a lot to react as fast as possible 😁

Not apparently:) make sure you keep pressure on your both brakes as long as you climbing higher than your wing

Thanks for sharing. Nice job in managing your weight shift and keeping the same direction. Have you done SIV ? I'm surprised by the "asymmetric front collapse" talk. Here in France we learn the opposite: a short asymetric stall on the side of the cravat (also pulling the brake and the stabilo first). A front collapse is precisely how cravat happen, so I'm not sure how that would solve the issue. Cheers !

Thank you :) I've done a lot of siv's since then. Sure an asymmetric stall is the most effective way to solve the problem as you feel comfortable to perform it and you are far away from the ground. I'm not an expert but i think that any action that would "loose" the lines for a little bit it might be enough to untangle the cravat. Even a big ear. Its better to practice over water and always prefer an instructor's opinion than videos on youtube 😃 safe landings!

if one wing end is twisted, you usually may not solve this situation by using the break line. Then try using a single "big ear" instead (pull the outer A-line) and release it again. This will hopefully solve the issue. Don`t panic and keep an eye on your flight direction. You can even land normally with a twister like this.

Hi Caroline! Thanks for your kind words. Unfortunately i haven't made any long flight yet due to covid restrictions but i really like this wing :) it has a very smooth feeling on the brake lines and this make it pretty easy to handle. It is fast, it is playful and it has a surprisingly good glide even with my open harness. I'm looking forward to hit some real thermals in the spring to check its climb rate as well..

I'm not sure but I think you needed more outside brake once that deep, I find it slows the wing so I'm always pulling on it with my weight, also you can feel it getting soft as you go deeper so pull more.

problem was pulling the inside break too late. that results in not enough speed and the inside wings collapses. rather be too early than too late on the inside break.if one pulls the break after passing under the wing, the wing can collapse

that's a wing UNDER! Sorry; people but paragliders are TERRIBLE parachutes and are also inherently unstable. Been flying hang gliders since 1981, was among the first in the US to fly paragliders in the mid 90's.
