I don't do WC anymore but would've love to learnt under you or Mark. I do kali, jkd and grappling. I will always have a love for WC, I have a school close by but is traditional, I truly think your teacher must understand other aspects of fighting

Martial Arts are not the same as fighting. Every martial art has aspects that go way beyond what is necessary in a ‘fight’. However, all remain challenging, enjoyable and require dedication, focus and spirit to excel. That alone is valuable for growth as an individual. The abundance of different Arts allows individuals to find a path that suits their nature. And then it is to look for a teacher who further helps their goal. All martial arts have ‘basics’ that work for simple situations.

@@ukwckfa Hello Mr Sinclair, It seems like that your application of Wing Chun is based on either real fighting experience or a lot of sparring where you had the chance to apply concepts/techniques etc. Also, it looks like that you adapted it accordingly while it still remained Wing Chun. As a matter of fact, I will start one of your classes in Maidstone soon. If you don’t mind me asking, when you said that a there are a lot of things that go beyond “fighting” in this art, wouldn’t it be confusing to students to learn it thinking that it would be useful in self defence? How do we distinguish between the art and self protection? Shouldn’t martial arts be about physical protection, combat etc? I apologise if I misunderstood your statement, and I certainly don’t mean it disrespectfully. I am a big fan of UKWCKFA 🙏🏾

@@gipsystrengthmedia9022 Thank you for your response. Most Martial Arts have skills and techniques that go beyound what is required in self defence. Another way of looking at it is that Martial Arts often 'develop specific skills to deal with the specific skills they develop'. An easy example would be developing a counter throw to a throw. It may be very unlikely that a particular throw would happen in the street, but in training they happen as skill levels improve. A lot of Martial Arts don't bite or headbutt, however, in Essex (and surely everywhere else) it seemed pretty common in the street! So holding someone too close to you (head to head) could be risky. Mike Tyson bit Evander Holyfields ear in a ring in front of millions of viewers! It is easy to know what works and what doesn't... the hard part remains developing the skills and experience to apply the things that do work.... Not all Martial Art styles or classes are combat oriented. Just find a style and teacher you can relate to and enjoy your own journey.
