Thx Nico, really nice instructions. Especially what ordinary mistakes are made.
The way most important step for the duckjibe is that you should FINISH the sail switch BEFORE you reach full downwind stage. This is the opposite of the normal jibe, when you need to go through downwind to be successful with the sail switch. If you fail that, the result is at 4:19
Where are the days that Robby Naish showed REAL duck jibes, carving like crazy, with his nose almost in the water?!
Gotta love the high-end production quality + content of the vids. Ty!
I have duckjibed before but this really helped me summing all important things up and remembering
Nice tutorial , really helpful and the way the steps are presented makes it easy to memorize them.!
Love your videos, your explanations are really clear, and we clearly understand what you mean when you're trying to explain.
Well explained Nico! Nice one to try step by step. Thanks!
Absolutely spot on, Nico. I learned to duck gybe in an afternoon in 1986 in 23kts on flat water ('Canadian Hole', on the Sound, Cape Hatteras, North Carolina) on wave kit/5.0sq m.
thanks for the tutorial. looking forward to try and learn it this year after two years break!
Very Nice Channel to watch and learn. This morning practiced some tips on low wind planing at Strand Horst in the Netherlands. Keep up the good work!
Those lake conditions looked quite tricky random wavy conditions. It is easier on the sea near the beach with smooth water between small waves with onshore wind.. An alternative method of starting to learn the duck gybe ( for 70 Kg adult ) is when you have a 5m 2 or 6m2 sail and you have just enough power to be planing [ not going maxed out ] then sailing parallel to waves and once you have a good stance for going round the corner and back hand a bit further back than normal planing then just let go of the front of the boom, the mast will drop near the water, so make sure your clew hand on boom doesn't let the mast touch the water or you will cannonball. Reach with what was your mast hand round and grab the new side of boom as far forward as comfortable [ maybe half way between clew & harness lines ] then what was your clew hand lets go of old side of boom and hopefully reaches new side between harness lines and mast but more forward the better. You will be sailing along on new reach with your back hand holding in reverse of normal grip. If your front hand is forward of the harness lines you can probably let go of back of boom if things aren't going well so that sail can flap to neutral and hopefully you can keep surfing out of it. NB make sure you still have more than a metre depth of water so that if you do cannon ball that you won't hit the bottom with outstretched arm.
Thanks Nico. I love watching the Duck Jibe being done well, they look so effortless
Dear Nico, Thanks for all the videos, the instructions, and all the help. You cover extremely exciting topics with fantastic style and thoroughness. As an intermediate freerider, I learned a lot of useful things from you and I always look forward to the next video, whether it's an experience report or a tutorial. I would like to share some ideas about what I would like to listen to on your channel in the future. (If there has ever been a similar one, I apologize.) - What smartwatch do you use for racing and training? What are the most useful functions for you, and what is a freerider sure to find useful? Are there other technical tools that still help you? - Waist harness, Crossover Harness (e.g. Dakine XT), Seat harness. Differences in body position and harnessline length. Health reasons. - Where should we set the mast and footstraps? I feel like none of them are ever in the right place.
Great tutorial again Nico. Would love to see more of this kind of tutorials. Always looking forward to your new video's on both chanels.
Great tutorial! I'm looking forward to trying this move out!
Thank you so much for this tutorial. Very clear and I can't wait for wind conditions to throw myself into it (or better the sail of course)! Loads of crashes to come but definitely looking forward to it! Might need a tough nose protector though ;)
Thanks Nico for the time and effort you put into this video, treating us to a great tutorial !
I'm still learning but really loving it. Have a good day.
Great videos, Nico! Going windsurfing for the first time in 30 years tomorrow, your videos are a great refresher 👍🏻
Nice tutorial, I practised my duck jibes a week ago and they are pretty good now. Keep it up!
I got into windsurfing recently and your videos are very motivating and helpfull
Thanks a lot for the tutorial. It really does help and I’m already looking forward to trying it out next time on the water!!
really helpful, i got to try next weekend in Torbole
Very good explanation, step by step. Thank you Nico!
Nice tutorial. I find a smaller sail foot is easier than a shorter boom; better to use a large wave sail than a small freeride. It helps you maintain your posture as you say and helps prevent the dreaded leaning back to "duck" under the sail.
For me personally, on a wave board, i find it easier to stay in footstraps for the entire move and finish on a switch stance. That way you dont have to find the perfect moment as the sail, once grabbed on the other side, wont catapult you. Also you can add some extra style to it as while you lean inside the corner you can swipe the water with your hand :D
Nice!!! great tutorial Nico - you make the Duckjibe so simple
Awesome Nico. One of my favorite maneuvers. Your tutorials are still one of the best. I would love to see one about the Airjibe. I just don't get that board around enough. Anyhow, keep up the great work. Big fan of you! Cheers from Ireland
Gotta go to the water and train! Thanks for sharing your knowledge, definitely in the need of more tutorials! Keep up the great work and motivation 🤙🏻🙂
Again a very good Video. Thanks for the good explanation! Now i am looking forward to train this jibe again
its a realy good tutorial and realy easy to understand the key phases of the technic to do this move
Nice video, well explained, will try the coming weeks to master it smoothly
Why do you make it look so easy? I need consistent wind! Nice video and easy to follow. The best part is it's what I'm working on now! Thankyou Nico!
Thanks for a great tutorial! Glad to see another great video!
I really enjoy watching your videos, even though I am (until now) not a windsurfer (I have to admit i'm a kitesurfer/kitefoiler/wingfoiler). Every time I see one of your videos, it feels like I get a step closer to actually giving it a go. I really, really have to talk to some Windsurfers if they can lend me some of their old material to try it out. And hands down, Windsurfing looks freaking cool! The riding position screams "In-Control", awesome!
Great Video again!!! I started practicing the Duckjibe in March at high winds with my 4.3 and it went quite well. But in the normal light wind conditions at my home spot I struggled to throw my 8.6 around😅 but with those tips I'll try again😊
Nice turtorial . Your Windsurf Videos are so amazing 🤩 The Caps looks very nice, i need one!
Nice Video. Da weiß ich ja schon was ich im Urlaub trainiere 😍🔥 mach weiter so 🤙

I really enjoy your videos. You're doing such a good job.
This video came at the right time! My next session on the water will be duck jibing attempts! Thanks a ton Nico!
I doubted several times on the water whether I would do this move. Maybe just practice for a day. Thanks for the inspiration.
Great !!! Video !!! Will try it next I windsurf !!! Thanks
Another great tutorial😁
I neeeeed that cap!!😱😱😱 And of course as always, good video! :)
Yessss, I want one of these caps so badly. Unfortunately I was on holiday when the last video dropped and only got to see it 2 weeks later. By the time I had arrived back home the caps had already sold out. Tbh I dont care about the colour, though I do prefer the gray and black and gray and red ones. I'm sure this tutorial is going to come in handy for me one day, but currently I've gotta work on my flip jibes and using my harness. Thx for the amazing vids tho
Really helpful video! I will try it the upcoming days!
It seams very easy when you do it! When I’m do it I have a hard pull when I recover sail. I’ll try your tips next session!!
Really great explanations, thanks!

Nice video, nice work🤙
Perfect tutorial, would love to learn the duck gybe, still looking for good conditions though 😁 would love the cap
Top Video, nice Tutorial….. weiter so 🤙🔝
being modest i used to do perfect duck jibes...30 years ago. Then i totally forgot about them. This winter i remeber them and started to try it again, and for the last two weeks i had the intention to get them to my top level, but the wind is just to strong. i can do them in one reach but not in the opposite. Today is already 30 knots again....
