Rich petty people squabbling over politics while an existential threat looms over the world entirely unchecked... boy I’m glad thats just fantasy. (stares into the camera for 4 minutes)

@Kinickylj no republicans and centrist dems are not taking this seriously. Their first thought is how to give money to donors. Look at the corperate robbery to I wish leftist had the political capital to refuse. But they cant because it would be painted as not help the general public. Cause anything is better than nothing but what we are getting is next to nothing. Hopefully we arent in such an economic downturn that we can afford the Winds of Winter.

"Last night he dreamt the Winterfell dream again...Only this time the dream had gone further than before. In the dark he heard the scrape of stone on stone. When he turned he saw that the vaults were opening, one after the other. As the dead kings came stumbling from their cold black graves, Jon had woken in pitch-dark, his heart hammering." My theory for what will kick off the upcoming Long Night is a massive volcanic eruption. This is just speculation on my part but if there was a volcano or volcanoes that's either beyond the Wall or even south of it laying dormant. If such volcanoes suddenly go off then the aftershock of the eruption would be what causes the Wall to come tumbling down, but what's more is the amount of ash spewing out of the volcanoes after a major eruption would be enough to block out the sun for quite some time. Edit: Another major outcome of volcanic ash blotting out the sun would be the onset of a volcanic winter where temperatures would drop drastically to unbearable levels which will make agriculture virtually impossible while also giving the Others the perfect conditions to start their invasion south.

I think it will be caused by an astronomical event, like a planet or planetoid (a "wandering star") coming near Planetos, enough that the tidal forces cause massive earthquakes, tsunamis, and super volcano eruptions. This happens in a cycle and civililzation has rebuilt itself countless times. Previous civilizations have achieved a lot more in terms of technology and magic.

I've long felt that the theory this will end in some sort of marriage, whether literal or symbolic. That will be how the balance is restored, if it goes that route. There's a lot of symbolism and quotes from Martin that this isn't going to be about some big bloody slugfest. Even LoTR's big battle at the gates of Mordor was just a feint to help the real battle going down at Mount Doom.

Absolutely loving this series LmL and Quinn , this is certainly one of the most interesting topics in GRRM's universe , although I think we will end up seeing more of this overall concept in ADoS. So many interesting concepts and possibilities with this one . The Wall coming down does seem inevitable with all the textual foreshadowing and just how else are most of these events going to be facilitated. The Wall has intense magical barrier protections that most magical entities can not cross , so surely it has to come down ; the how is the big question , I don't think dragons could do it hence GRRM's giving us that Silverwing story not being able to cross it , and I have my doubts the Horn of Winter / Joramun's Horn doing that either. The timing with the book's Night's King is murky as are most of GRRM's ancient events but residing at the Nightfort seemingly on the Wall , controlling the Night's Watch likely with some type of sorcery , to me suggests after the Wall was constructed. And we know Joramun used it and the Wall was not damaged or taken down , plus what would taking the Wall down have helped Brandon the Breaker & Joramun back then if thats what the horn does , so that leaves me a bit skeptical. And lets presume the books NK was pre-Wall what magical use would the HoW have for Joramun to use against the Night's King in general if the Wall was not there ? Personally i think the HoW is more tied the Winterfell Crypts and raising the Stark dead. With taking down the Wall it seems more likely this unprecedented massive level of blood sacrifice Euron is up to could possibly be the catalyst for that (intentionally or not). In terms of defeating the Others definitely will not be as simplistic as the show made it only needing to take out their leader , we do not even have a book equivalent of that role atm. I do really like what LmL mentioned with Jon being a wight as needed to venture north of The Wall to take out some talisman to weaken the Others via a journey only a wight could survive. And in general i think unlike the show it will likely be a two pronged approach of some type of metaphysical intervention in the Weirwood net seemingly from Bran and a physical aspect as well likely from Jon , with many signs pointing to some resolution coming from the IoF. And of course there is the possibility Jon is the PtwP to the Others as mentioned during the stream , the special bloodlines could play into that and of course Jon would seemingly be selfless enough to volunteer himself for such a role to save the realm. I also always found it curious believe it was Ygritte in the books who called Jon Snow's name "evil" which could give another wrinkle to this idea ; maybe the Freefolk kept an oral story of the books' NK or another leader of the Others and his name was Jon Snow , possibly an ilegimate or younger brother Stark which Jon is presented as (even if his true parentage will say otherwise). That could be an added connection with Jon having to take over the Others or will lead the Others' at some point. Definitely looking forward to see how all this plays out in the books.

Still a fan of the idea there's a dragon/s in the bottom of the crypts. Aside from dragonstone, winterfell is the only place in westeros hinted at being suitable for dragons.. and I feel like george wouldn't have included the story about eggs laid in the crypts for nothing either. There's also hints at there being an ice dragon built into the wall! Part of the magic of the wall is the dragon inside I believe. Either way, I certainly think we'll see another dragon before the end of the story.

One of the things the stands out to me about the tale of the Night's King is his wife. A woman "with skin as white as the moon and eyes like blue stars" and "her skin was cold as ice". He gives her his seed and soul and he declared himself king and her his queen. Sounds to me like a marriage pact, and since the timeline is a bit fuzzy i think this might've been what actually ended the long night. That's how wars usually end, right? Peace and a marriage to seal the deal. A Stark of the Night's Watch marrying an Other to end the long night. If Jon turns into an Other i think marrying Dany could mirror that nicely.

I expect POV chapters of characters from all over Westeros chronicling their fight against the others, I want it to get so desperate that entire regions have to evacuate civilians and have them hold up in certain castles (Casterly Rock, Riverrun, Storms End, and the Red Keep in Kings Landing). I also want history repeating itself sort of by having the undead army purposely starving the people hunkered down in the Eyrie (this would be Sansa's POV chapter chronicling the desperation of the people trapped) in fact it would be so bad that there's a chance that we may see people resort to cannibalism for survival.

There was a video game called Myth the Fallen Lords where a great evil called the Leveler would rise every thousand years when a great comet appeared in the sky and begins an age of darkness until a hero rises and brings in an age of light. The bit i love about the lore. A twisted and ironic attribute that the Leveler has is that it would return in the next age, stronger then before and possessing the body and soul of the hero who defeated it. Hence the hero that saves the world from darkness would be doomed to destroy it and all that they had fought hard to save. You guys put me in the mood to reply these games again. Thanks.

Crazy idea: suppose the earth were to stop spinning. That would hide the sun from a lot of people for a while. And if it lasted long enough it would scorch the other side of the world. I said it before: we have no record of the Long Night form anywhere sharing a longitude with Valryia. No such legend from the Ghis, nor Qarth. The last two are places Daenerys has spent a good deal of time in and should hear of these things. Valyria is said to be the land of the Long Summer, maybe they had a summer/day parallel to the Long Night.

I believe the Others could reach Kingslanding, it would be the perfect target for the Others that would make their army unstoppable with its millions of residents. It would also make a perfect trap for Jon/Dany to use the hidden wildfire cashes to burn a large portion of the undead army... and Trion knows of those cashes. Why do the Others need to take Winterfell? The Others don't have supply lines or a flank that they'd need to protect so they could just bypass the fortress... Winterfell is desigened to survive an attack by tbe Others and yet can't really threaten their army. What the Others need are bodies, and southern kingdoms are not well prepared to fight them eq Kingslanding and the Reach. Also I think the dead Starks will be risen from the cripts but will defend Winterfell. If they would serve the enemy, no Stark bodies would have ever be kept if this was the case they would have burned all bodies like the Free Folk do.

We know that as of the mutiny against Jon Snow, two Lord Commanders have now been Killed by their brothers and Jon has first men blood. I'll assume the magic of the wall breaking will begin the Long Night, if I'm right it goes a long way explaining the events that in the north, the attack at the Fist, (which killed the most loyal brothers, leaving only the scoundrels), Sam being saved by Coldhands. As well as Jon ascension to lord commander, by landslide, which was strange because he was being accused of desertion at the time. Could these events have the same two architects? It's a thought.

I’m totally with you on the long night episode LML I thought it was going to be hands down the greatest episode of TV ever made up until the last 5mins. When John starts running at the Night King and the NK turns around and raises the dead I told my GF “well they’ve lost. John needs to get on the dragon with Danny and get out of there”.... and when that didn’t happen I just kept saying “no no no..” lol but all the mistakes would’ve been forgiven if they would’ve just lost and had to fall back because then you could chalk it up like yeah they made mistakes that’s why they lost.... I just don’t understand narratively speaking how you can have a threat that everyone is saying the whole world needs to unite to stop and also have a castle said to be able to house the whole kingdom in Harrenhall and you don’t use it lol... mark my words ALL the kingdoms of men will gather and unite at Harrenhall at some point in the story they just have too lol

That’s a popular opinion but not one I share. I think parts of seasons 5-6 were bad and most of seasons 7-8 were bad but not all. None of the seasons are as good as the books for sure but I don’t see them as the same so I don’t really compare them. I go by how much enjoyment I got from watching the episodes and talking about them with friends. Hardhome and battle of the bastards are some of the best hours of television every created so to call the whole season “bad” would be letting my emotions cloud my judgement which is what I think most people do when it comes to this show. Fully understandable but I don’t agree.

You think the best episode on television would be a huge battle episode?? Then I guess you think The Avengers movies are the best movies ever too. Sorry but for an episode to be the best on TV, it needs an exceptional level of writing and Oscar-worthy acting, and of course it should be a changing point in the series. That’s why Breaking Bad’s Ozymandias is still the best TV episode, and a lot others too. I’ll give points to Battle of the Bastards for the outstanding cinematography and production, and because of being a satisfying moment. The Long Night was one of the worst things I’ve ever seen on TV.

Arian Serrano First off you can go fuck yourself coming at me like that and trying to straw man me and insult my intelligence because you don’t share an opinion you think I have. Second off I agree with you the long night episode is horrible and third I also agree with you that Breaking bad Ozymandias is probably the best episode of television ever made. I was describing the emotions I was feeling while watching the episode for the first time not how I feel about it in general or with hindsight. Also action scenes/movies have their place in cinema just as well as outstanding character actors and amazing dialogue and to write it off is stupid. A good fight scene takes just as much talent and skill to create as anything else in film.

  • @johnp.smithasimpleman7281

    @johnp.smithasimpleman7281

    3 жыл бұрын

@@KingOfWinter If we agree on most things then why tf are you insulting when I didn’t even insult you? The reason I said that is because I am fcking tired of people praising a movie/tv show because of spectacle and action. And saying “action have their place in cinema just as well as outstanding character actors and amazing dialogue and to write it off is stupid” With that logic movies like 300, Transformers, and The Avengers would be as good as The Godfather and Shawshank Redemption. Here’s the difference, a great team of writers and actors can do something amazing with a small budget(the Fly episode in Breaking Bad is an example), and if they have a bigger budget, even better, but a mediocre writer can only hide his flaws by impressing the audience with spectacle, so they rely HEAVILY on the production team. I loved the BotB, and I praise it highly for the cinematography and mindblowing production. But the writing of the episode and the overall season is mediocre. It perfectly could’ve been a fan fiction with massive budget. Yes action can be amazing, but it’s much better when the writing behind it is also amazing, otherwise it’s just action for the sake of action. Battle of Blackwater is IMO a much better episode, the dialogue scenes from Cersei and Tyrion was top notch.

I always thought that the name Winterfell was a misdirection. You are supposed to think that it's where winter stops or something. But what if there was an ancient ice dragon named Winter? The location where this terrible beast was killed might be called Winter Fell. Hence the place that the others want to get to, to do some magic with dragon remains or to resurrect it or wake it up or something like that.

  • @KarlSchultzGoogle

Even further, my theory extends to the crypts and Coldhands. If Coldhands is in fact Benjen Stark as was confirmed in the show (but only implied vaguely in the books) then perhaps the Starks have some sort of immunity to the mind control portion of the Others wight magic. This would mean that A) there is a clear and interesting resurrection path for Jon Snow, B) the reason the Stark kings have such specific burial right with their swords and bodies in the crypts is to defend Winterfell from an invasion from the others.

I know this video is over a year old, but I was hoping in the show that the Night King would fly Viserion and some of his generals to Kings Landing and build a second army of wights to hit Winterfell from the South while the rest of his generals came from the North. The other main characters (and the audience) see the army from the South approaching and for a brief moment, they think Cersei kept her word, but then they realize that isn't the case and that it's a whole new army of wights. Not only that, but the realization that Kings Landing has fallen and so have many other towns/cities along the way would hit, too. The absolute existential dread of that moment would have been legendary. I also didn't think the Night King would be stupid enough to expose himself to his enemies deep inside their territory, knowing his entire mission and existence could end with one lucky shot from the enemy, especially since he knows they know how to kill him....silly me. Anyway, I've always felt like an ice dragon would make its way into the book series somehow. I never knew about the picture of the shadowed three-headed dragon and the shadowed fourth dragon. That's pretty dope. My question is if an ice dragon is triple the size of a normal dragon, what is a normal dragon's average size? The Targaryen's dragons became smaller over time due to different restricted environments, but I'm wondering if Balerion and Vhagar are the standard based off Valyria's dragons since they came from there? None of the other Targaryen dragons lived long enough to reach their size, though a few came somewhat close. I'm thinking an ice dragon is massive and much larger than all three of Dany's juvenile dragons combined, especially if ice dragons have existed undisturbed to the point of being thought of as myths for the most part. I don't know. Fun to think about.
