Windows 11 - Move Taskbar to Top, Left & Right Of the Screen
Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
Windows 11 does not have the option to lock or unlock the taskbar so you can't change the taskbar position, but you can move taskbar in Windows 11 using the registry editor. The registry editor will allow setting some "value data" for taskbar behavior.
How to move the taskbar in Windows 11?
1. Go to Start and search for "regedit"
2. Navigate to the following registry path
3. HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\StuckRects3
4. Change the settings.
Change the data in the 2nd row under FE value.
00 - Left
01- Top
02- Right
03- Bottom

Thanks for the help. Really don't like this new update, but I didn't really have a choice but to get it because one of my drivers got corrupted, so my only options to fix the computer were to either pay a few hundred dollars to get it repaired, or get the new windows update.

It's unbelievable that they removed that function. As if they have only webbrowsing and emailing grandma's in mind. I usually have 20 applications running, and having it on the left or right of the screen puts all the applications in an easy readable list. Also, the height of the screen is way more scarce than the width, which is another reason to have the taskbar on the side of the screen. I also always have small icons and labels enabled and grouping disabled. Hopefully i get it hacked back, otherwise i rollback to Windows 10 until 2025. Edit: Rolled back to Windows 10 already..

Same. The decision to disable moving the taskbar was idiotic. Clueless users don't mess with the taskbar anyway, they were never an issue. Those of us who prefer not to have the taskbar take up vertical screen space by hogging the bottom now can't move it to the side. Removing this feature makes no sense, especially since they haven't bothered to explain *why*. I bet users with ultrawide monitors are loving this change too, it looks even stupider on an ultrawide display.

I cant use the left taskbar now and its not easy to break years of habit as such. This is so basic, why stop ppl from having it. Thanks for your video.
@Engineer9736

It's not just about a habit that needs to be broken. Having it on the side of the screen reads way easier and the height of a screen is way more scarce than the width. So it's just way more practical to have it on the side of the screen.
I have always used my taskbar on the left. It's easier to see and much more ergonomic. Also, a way to hide the taskbar is needed. Thanks for your information.

I don't really believe they would officially release a windows version of which basic gui functions are not working. I think Microsoft lost all managers with common sense over the years.
Yeah! Bring back the ability to move the taskbar!
What a pain to just move the task bar. I've been using the task bar on the left side since I had Norton for Windows with windows 3.1 Why in the world did they remove that feature. We used to just right click on the task bar, unlock it, and move it anywhere we wanted. Thanks very much for walking me through the regedit for this. I never would have thought of even looking under StuckRects3 for that edit. Thanks again for the walk through.
i followed exactly the instructions on your video but for some reason it doesnt work. i've restarted the windows explorer tons of times and it's still the same. even the code in the settings resets to 03. it's so frustrating honestly because i've had the taskbar onto the left and right side of my screen (dual monitor user) and it sucks that microsoft didnt bother integrating this basic feature in their latest os.

It’s not working for me, even after doing this the taskbar stays at the bottom and when I go back to registry the value becomes 03 again what’s the fix
It just resets by itself, I restart windows explorer and the number I set goes back to 03

You are great. Very helpful, and I agree with your sentiments about MS removing useful features from updates, such as being able to move the task bar to the sides of the screen, and the handy Quick Launch feature which has to be "reinstalled" with every update if you want to continue using it. Developers are like dogs, they have to pee around the yard to alert everyone that they are there, and they need to continually change things to justify the continuation of their jobs.
Is there a reason this isnt working for me? I changed the value and pressed ok. When I restart explorer the taskbar is still at the bottom and when I go back to the reg it shows default value 03. Restarting seems to restore the default value for me.

What in the hell is wrong with Microsoft, removing this basic functionality and personal preference. There's so much wasted unused space having it at the top or bottom. Thank you for the video.
Thank you for taking the time to do these helpful videos and write feedback to Microsoft :)
Once I did it and it worked perfectly. Now I got a new Windows 11 update again and I wanted to dock the task bar on the top again but it just won't move! :(( When I restarted my computer, the number changed from 01 back to 03. Why shall I do?

thank you and it works, but unfortunalty I'm using multiple screen (3 screens ) most of the time, it works only on main screen not in other two screens. is there way it could be done for all 3 screens ?
Excellent video. Thanks. I've been holding off on W11 for this very reason. If they can get the icons to show up and work properly with the taskbar on the left, then I'll upgrade soon. Otherwise, probably not for a long time.
Thank you Sandeep. I thought I was crazy. Fact is, on a 16:9 screen this is a total waste of vertical real estate. Microsoft have become Apple Wannabes. And a permanent icon for MS Chat? F-Them. (I've been doing software instruction and tech writing since 1988.) Just one more arsehole maneuver this. It is so bad I may revert to Win10. Your succinct description helped a bunch. Oh my god! Thank you so much for this. I've suffered this for so long. What a bizarre decision to remove that feature. It's like someone at Microsoft decided that it looks more aesthetically pleasing at the bottom and so therefore everyone else would want it there. It's the absolute worst possible position for so many tasks that aren't web browsing etc.

I am trying to use Display Fusion with Windows 11 soon. Maybe it can add required features like that - but I have my doubts. I was using it with Windows 10, and it was pretty great. I require to have all Taskbars of all screens on their sides, with the perfect control of their visibility via manual toggle only (example: press Windows-Button to toggle targeted screen's Taskbar's visibility: On/Off). I doubt that this will be possible anytime soon, but I do recommend it very much!
