I really hope that can bring this feature back. I see no reason for them to remove such a simple feature.

i always used taskbar on the left, since we have 16/9 screen we have screen that is more wide than high, so if you want to waste some space, better to do it on the wide than on the high

@@mythsardan To prevent the crashes, the taskbar must first be changed back to a classic (Windows 10) one. After the change, icons can also be ungrouped. All these changes can only be done by registry editor. The start-up menu won't show up, but it can be solved by installing open-shell. However, some features unique to 11 will be lost. Also, the size of taskbar will be unable to change. For more information, read the article titled "How to Make Windows 11 Look and Feel Like Windows 10" on Tom's Hardware.
Wow... Thank you so much for this walk-through. I've been using it up top forever.
I've always had the taskbar on the top, glad to see that I am not alone. Thanks for the video!
Again, MS is acting more like Apple in taking away our interaction. I like my taskbar on the right side.

They are trying to be like MAC. The only drawback for them is that it will make it easier for us to go to Mac and not stay with PC.
wow such a helpful guide.. thanks mate! hopefully on the next patch this feature can be enabled simply by right clicking the taskbar as in win 10
Thank you kindly! I've run the Taskbar atop the screen for 20+ years now.
The video is very helpful, but that is a lot of steps for the general public that is not accustomed to using the Registry as most PC users are not. It is also a little scary when the disclaimer is also added of "it is not recommended" not to mention the word "risky"! Moving the taskbar to the top was the FIRST thing I tried to do when the update completed! That is how important it is to me for my usage. I like my taskbar at the top for several different reasons: Workflow, ease of mouse usage as I work (other programs have their taskbars at the top like the ribbon in MS Ofc programs, Internet...just to name a few) and posture as the taskbar can be a focal point on the screen for a user switching between multiple programs as they work.. Moving the taskbar can be an hourly thing for some of us as we change programs and workflow. This is one ability that needs to be returned and remain. Sometimes the simple things are the most helpful and required.

I went for it. I normally don't and i don't mess with registry stuff as i am a regular user. That disclaimer did scare me. But i am so absolutely annoyed with this most crap decision from microsoft to take my taskbar away from top that i went for it anyways. It was so much easier than i thought. I didn't have explorer in the task manager though so i just restarted my computer and it worked. It is tatally worth it. This move disrupted my workflow and i am still so mad that they did something this stupid.

@@Adriana-eo9dx In this case the old adage of "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" absolutely applies! :) Only in this case they broke it instead of fixing it. LOL
idk why they didnt include the ability to do so in the UI, as a user who places my taskbar on the top, this is just plain annoying and i hope they fix it in the final release

I'm reverting back
Thank you so much, I have been loking to move the taskbar to the top since the upgrade to windows 11
I sent feed back on task bar being at when I first looked at win 11.
Thanks for this. It sucks moving to the left is no longer supported (possible but buggy). That has currently been my preferred position recently since (a) it consumes less pixels than at the bottom when I changed to an ultrawide and (b) i have a stacked monitor setup. Putting it at the bottom means I somtimes miss clicking the taskbar on the top monitor because my mouse overshoots and moves to the bottom monitor.
Thank you so much! I can't stand taskbar in the bottom of the screen!
THANK-YOU SO VERY MUCH !
Wow... Thank you so much for this walk-through
Worked perfectly, thanks for the video.

Golden video! thanks... very stupid of MS to meddle with this adjustment.
Thank you for the video, just got a new laptop and just going through setting it up
Thank you very much! I have two screens and this change only happened on one of the screens. How can I make this change affect both of them? Thank you!!
THANK YOU SO MUCH! THIS HELPED ME A LOT
Hmm this did not work for me. No change at all. I tried each code to move to top (01), then left (00), then right (02) and the taskbar always remained at the bottom. Not sure what I did wrong but i also watched the video and followed the steps exactly.
Thanks a lot man I had dead pixels at the bottom of my laptop's screen...couldn't see a shit but shifting the task bar up is gonna help me a lot in making videos Once Again Thanks a lot!
Truly helpful. Any idea on how to get the task bar to move to the top with multiple screens?
Thanks a lot, mate. You've made W11 usable for me (L)

Perfect. Thanks!

Same here. I think Microsoft is now blocking us from using this "fix". It's a deal breaker for me. I'm returning my brand new laptop (which was supposed to have come with Windows 10 anyway). Very frustrating! I've been moving it since Windows 95. It worked in 98, NT, XP, Vista and 10. Why would they remove it!? And "drag and drop" being removed is even more ridiculous!

In recent updates. Microsoft has stopped supporting change of task bar view via registry. We are stuck with bottom task bar. However, there is utility/,exe which allows us to change this
Thanks so much it helped
Do you know if they're going to let you put it to the top left or right in the final release?
It doesn't work anymore. Whenever I restart the file manager, the 01 changes automatically to 03, and taskbar doesn't move :/ How to solve this?
Thank you. That's the only thing that works.
Does anyone know how to change the taskbar to the top on second monitor? This worked on my primary monitor

If you are using multiple monitors and want the taskbars on those screens to also be on top, you should change the same values to 01 for all registry keys in the HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\MMStuckRects3 folder. If you don't have multiple monitors, this folder won't exist.

I have done the exact same edit to the registry. Taskbar has moved to the top, but the preview thumbnails do not appear after all. When moving it down back, thumbnails are on. Do you know why?
thanks it work great !!!
Brudah what should I do to relocate my taskbar on right side plz tell
Thanks. I like my taskbar on the top.
One issue i notice that if you open more than one folder minimize it and try to open it back it does work.
Is there a way to do this only on one Screen? I have to Montiors above eachother and I'd like to put the task bar to the top on the upper montitor so i do not accidantly open prorgramms when inteacting with a window
OMG THANK YOU!!!!!
How does this registry edit help with multiple monitors, I did this and only my primary/main display has the tasbar on top and the other 2 monitors have it at the bottom. Any suggestions?
I have done the exact the same way you did, but I found a problem taskbar not showing thumbnail previews when hoevering pointer on the taskbar icons. As yours do show preview thumbnails in correct way, I have tried it azure VM but it has failed too. would you please check if your machine is still doing right showing thumbnails? I'm using windows 11, 21H2, 22000.527 build. Please check.
thanks bro love u
God bless you sir
thanks it helped my friend a lot. idk why he upgraded to windows 11 i still think windows 10 is better
The problem with this hack is that the onmouse rollover text pops up in front of the mouse, thus disabling the clicking. Plus, the miniatures of apps don't show on mouse rollover. Open instances of Explorer don't react at all to the mouse click. The taskbar sometimes requires to hit the Windows key to show up. MICROSOFT grade: D.

I know it's a bit late to reply, but I'll leave it here so people who come later know how to fix it, because manually editing the registry like that only changes the start menu location, other functions are still at the bottom, so I recommend using 3rd software like Stardock Start11, it also edits the registry but they edit it fully so some features are still available such as miniatures of apps or so
hello, thanks for the vid.. after i changed the taskbar to the top, whenever i hovered an icon with 2 or more tabs opened, the hover animation still shows on the top side, this is a new thing that i've just discovered by using an extended monitor which just above my laptop, that's why i know the hover animation still appeared on the top. I've searched on how to move the hover animation on the taskbar to the bottom but no clue, perhaps do you know how to change it to the bottom??

Thanks for the video. I followed all step but not working for me. The binary file is still having 03 after I click 'ok' and open again. Do I need to go through any other step?
Thanks much! I just installed windows 11, and it was not going to work on the bottom. Kudos!
I think they added a new patch recently, and no longer works, it does not save the value 03, any workaround? Thanks for the help!
I m user of top taskbar I am looking to move action centre and notifications as well, so its going to appears on top followed by click instead on the bottom. any idea how to do it?
what number should i type in if i want the bar to be on the left side of the screen??
thanks man nice.....
I am not sure if comments are the place to trouble shoot, but when i click on the windows explorer and reset task its keeps the bar on the bottom of the screen and resets the registry editor back to 03.
hi, any update on this, i have tried multiple times to change taskbar location as described, but doesnt work, and the restart button on the bottom, isnt their , like on your screen, HELP
How do you do this trick for the second monitor? thx
Hello, the recent update 01.05.2022 this function no longer works. Can you double check it please. Thank you.
I was able to move my task bar to the left. However, I might have deleted something along the way because i cannot see none of my icons now :( I tried to look for the regedit but off course I could not see the search button anywhere to type that word in. I remember saving the stuckrect3 on my C:\ document but i cannot find that to go back to the original setting so I can fix it. Pls help
Help, I have followed your instruction, 03 changed to 01, hit OK. went to explorer, restart, No change. When I go back to regedit it changes back to 03 automatically?
thank you
I connect my laptop (which already set taskbar to the top) to another monitor, and the taskbar remain at the bottom at my extended monitor, any though?
IDK why but when I do this, the taskbar moves to the top but the thumbnail hovering feature on the icons won't work anymore.
This worked for the primary screen but secondary screen toolbar hasn't changed. How do we apply the same change to secondary screen?
How can I move even the taskbar on my second monitor to top?
Ifni want it back to the bottom i just have to do the same i did before? Right?
thanks for the video, was just gonna skip win 11 when I heard taskbar was locked at bottom.
Didn't work for me. The system chaged back to 03 right after I resarted task manager, not sure if it's the problem that I have two monitors
thanks 💕

I have the same issue
this new version just wrecked my system... I moved it on top, it doesn't show the opened windows when the cursor is hovered upon the icons on the taskbar. The calendar should fall from the top, but now it opens on the bottom right and a part of the top has just vanished showing the icons cut in half. It's so messed up that now I want to make it at the bottom now, though I always prefer it at the top. I don't know what's good with this new version when the previous version was so awesome.
When i make the taskbar at top, i don't get application windows appears upon hovering over the app icon on taskbar.
my taskbar moved to the side somehow and it's not showing anything but the language options and it's unresponsive to right clicks or anything and i dont know how to move it back
