I tried the download but it keeps saying error when I open the file. I really miss the old movie maker.

Somehow I lost Movie Maker a few weeks ago. I've tried others but I find them all too complicated. Why, oh why did Microsoft remove Movie Maker? It was the best ever.

No, windows 10 video editor is not as easy or better than movie maker windows 7. It takes much longer to scan through a movie and edit out parts you don't want. In movie maker, you could slide through the movie without missing any of the contents. In video editor, if you slide through the movie in the preview pane, you're liable to miss entire sections. The only "improvement" in video maker windows 10 is being able to move clips in the timeline. It's very frustrating for those of us who just want to edit family videos or certain parts of movies to work with video editing software that is created for people who want to upload to androids, youtube, instagram, facebook, etc, for distribution. Some of us just want the basics that movie maker provided for people who just want to edit video in their private libraries. So far, nothing comes close to the simplicity of movie maker windows 7.

The feature I miss the most from Movie Maker (MM) is scene detection. When I extract video from a DV tape, MM breaks the video to different clips with date and time stamps. This saves me a lot of time splitting the video into different clips corresponding to different events and label them with correct the date/time. This is why I was so glad to get the original version from you. I haven't seen this feature in many software I've tried so far. Thanks again.

An excellent comparison but it left me with one big question. Is it possible to edit the same project in both programs so that one can get the best of both worlds? If no, can you open the semi finished say the VE file in MM and modify that as needed using the MM features that VE lacks and then go back to VE for further editing. A lot of hassle but that would produce a better product if it works.

The old movie maker is much better than this Win10 video editor although the text feature looking more modern. Is there a way to add more dynamic text display into old movie maker 2012? I still prefer to use old movie maker 2012.

Excellent & fair comparison review. Video Editor is the better option for someone new to making videos. I think MS have done a good job with video editor by resisting the temptation to put in too many features.

Thanks for talking slow and clear you outlined the difference between movie maker and movie editor well done . I am a frustrated film maker since movie maker vanished I spent ages mastering it then they discontinued it The transitions were superior and pro like the spin and the flip. Adobe rush by Microsoft was annoying fancy designing a black background for you to edit your movies in who are these idiots I mean things are stressful enough when navigating an editing suite if your a beginner ! But to use a black background skin is diabolical

W10VE seen to be more for slide show than for a video. I used to have Window Movie Maker on my laptop. At one point, it bugs to a video that I uninstall it when I realize it was the video format's fault than the software's. I feel so bad! WMM is very popular toward pooper (KZread Poop Creator). Glad there is a download link.

When trying to export large videos, video editor does NOTHING. It freezes. Microsoft should stick to Microsoft office and not venture into things that they do not know about. I HATE microsoft with a passion
