I like that this incarnation of Link has basically no connection to the Hero of Time at all - he's literally just some kid who dresses up like the Hero of Time (against his will!) and happens to share the same true name. The Hero of Time was trying to save the world whereas this kid just wants his sister back and doesn't care about anything else.

Toon link is by favorite my favorite. From the very beginning, he's established as just a kid who just does not give a shit. The boy just came out here to save his sister, but got roped into some prophecy that he clearly cares nothing about. The scene where ganondorf explains about the triforce and link's face just looking like "Yeah, great and all, but I really don't care."

I wish BOTW Link had more expressions. Toon Link and Skyloft Link showed how expressive Link could be, and BOTW Link had some but was more a blank slate.

Wind waker is how to do a silent protagonist *right*, he doesn’t speak (mostly, lol) but you know *exactly* what he’s thinking because his animation is so expressive. Age of Calamity is how to do a silent protagonist very wrong, by shoving him so far out of the narrative he’s barely even *a* protagonist, let alone *the* protagonist. Imagine if hwaoc had given Link as much expressiveness as wind waker, letting his face speak for him instead of shooing him to the back of cutscenes and relying overly on voice acting.
