They all have to be in the public domain at this point. Copying them and putting a good binding on them would be pretty interesting. $3000 for a book is a stretch for most people, but if they could copy it and sell idk $80 bound copies of it... anyway this website is going to be bad for me. I'm already looking at that $900 polygamy book and my wallet is itching XD

My work as a bookbinder took to into some of the most impressive rare book collections around the UK. Private and public. Back at the end of 2019 I was fortunate enough to be working in the New College Library in Edinburgh. We were preparing for their collection to be moved off site for renovations. Deep in their archives were some of the oldest books I have ever had the privilege to work on. The oldest I found was 1415. They housed a lot of the King James literature, including an original Daemonologie... amongst other things. Most of which were in very good condition considering their age. Those books held a certain presence, as if they were waiting to be opened. I can only imagine the secrets they could tell.

My daughter and I just got into a discussion yesterday about my collection of books. I told her that when I die, do not get rid of them because ma y are collector's or first editions ( none like yours unfortunately) ,but she remarked that nobody would want them. I said how excited I would have been if my great grandmother etal. had left me such treasures. Thankfully, my other daughter overheard this, cam downstairs and announced she would not let anyone touch my books as she had the same desire although she does not read...she said their is a Japanese term for this...one who collects books ,but does not read them. My oldest is only late 1800s, but for me there is nothing sweeter than the age and the subject of your book collections. 😊

A miserable day to not have social media, and doubly miserable to be saving for a trip! As much as I've wanted to accrue a library of antique texts, finding a book dealer that I put any level of trust in without diving headlong into the nuances of the medium in the way I've done with numismatics is tedious beyond measure. I trust you though Doc, I expect if this project sticks around for any length of time you'll end up getting an uncomfortable amount of my earnings as I have a genuine problem controlling my thirst to expand my library. This is incredibly exciting and I hope it takes off for you so you have another means of funding Esoterica, it's almost poetic to fund Esoterica with esoteric books.

I love that you bring light to this old books, that may be not apprechiated otherwise in our fast paced modern world. I started collecting antique/old books a few years ago, my oldest volume yet is a copy of the Illiad from 1839, so nothing in comparison. I just love that one can hold such a piece of history in hand, wondering how many others have read in it before.

I'll explain why i want that book in my hands. The more an object is ancient, the more full of charm it is. Being able to keep it in your hands thinking to, that he survived many hands and distant eras, or that many minds have studied it, or even think of the emotions of those who possessed it before me, it gives me a thrill to the spine. Considering that, in the past the books were precious objects, they are to be dealt with with the same respect, there is a responsibility, in compliance with those who preceded us and those who will follow us. It's necessary to keep it and use it adequately. To then give it some of that energy for posterity, which will come into contact with this object, and which hopefully the same philosophy are equally. In short, the time gives an object, a particular energy, more ancient is, the more full of this energy. Moreover, the topic interests me very much, we never stop learning. Thanks

Congratulations, Dr. Sledge, fantastic news and a lovely selection! Such a pleasant experience go through the photos and appreciate the small details, especially when I rarely see books other than early 1900s American encyclopedias in my local “antique“ shops. And well worth spending the money on one of these beauties, rather than a lot of things in the price range I can think of (looking at you, mobile phones with 56 cameras). I know where my next purchase will be from. The marginalia makes this Theosophia so much more special - I’m dying to read it - the added history and context it gives to the copy is even more alluring than the age for me, although to quote you - the older the better… If I got my hands on it, I’d probably lose unreasonable amount of sleep worshiping, examining and studying it in parallel with a translated edition. It’s my favorite pastime to read two different (edition, translation, language) versions side by side, it's such a rich way to learn more about the book (and *teach yourself some Latin). I’m doing just that lately with Agrippa’s De vanitate (Latin vs English) - reading Prof. Nauert’s Crisis of the Renaissance Thought (after your recent, and excellent recommendation) re-sparked my obsession. Been entranced with the occult, esoterica, and particularly alchemy since a ’99 visit to Prague, and routinely spent my scholarship on any related book I could get my hands on in high-school. These days it seems, I’m fully experiencing my own Crisis of Thought, or how to free more time to dig into 16th-17th century manuscript scans. I'd probably become full on hermit or just die of pure bliss if I have a physical one in my hands. Thank you for sharing all that precious knowledge! p.s. You successfully had me reinstall that one app on my phone before the video was over, after not using it for years. This is my second comment ever on YT, and I’ve been around for more than 15 years. Never in my life have I entered a single giveaway, yet I am compelled by that little treasure. That automatically makes you a true alchemist. (Rubedo achieved)

I would love to win the book. Not for myself, but for my mother in law. Her passion is learning, teaching and writing about esoteric mysticism, like magic, tarot, witchcraft, occultism and horoscopes. I have a great personal interest in spirituality as well, but have dove more so into eastern practices, such as buddhism and advaita vedanta. Talking about western esoteric topics and spirituality in general has brought us closer together, which I'm grateful for. It would be amazing to gift her this book, that I know she will love, in order to show my gratitude for her wisdom and love. I Have no Instagram, nor much money to spare, so I'll just leave a post over here. Thanks for all your great videos and allowing me to learn more about esoteric mysticism!

I just want to let you know that your work ist very inspiring. Thanks to the Esoterica videos I started taking my interest in weird and old books more serious and to actively look through the antiques section of second hand book shops. Also these videos have inspired me to design my first real LARP character for Vampire: the Maquerade as an amateur student of the occult who got picked up by someone who knows "the real deal" and I'm stoked to have another reason to further explore and learn about esoteric literature in the tracks of this character who will definitely be sporting Esoterica merchandise (even though I have yet to decide which design exactly).

Thank you Dr Sledge for Esoterica, your work in the arcane in history, philosophy, and religion. I don't have an Instagram account so here is my comment. I love reading, particularly old books. They do have the power to take one back in time. Mysticism and the Occult are the most interesting subjects to me. I've studied Christian mysticism casually for many years on my own and have watched a lot on Crowley, read the Book of the Law, material on witchcraft and Wicca in general. I'm also interested in Jacob Boehme. The old, the antique, the ancient, the occult, and the esoteric has always been attractive, bewildering, startling, and beautiful to some degree. Esoterica is fascinating because of the work at unifying the imagination, the heart, the mind, and the will through the combination of the natural and the supernatural. It inspires creativity in poetry, music, and art even for those like myself who do not practice the occult arts, but enjoy learning about and sharing such knowledge with others. Blessings and peace to you and yours.

When I was 14, I began a journey that changed my life forever. I started collecting old books and teaching myself antique languages through eBay treasures. Each book was a portal to the past, sparking my imagination and deepening my love for history. Tragically, when I was 20, a burst pipe during a cold spell destroyed my entire collection while they were stored in boxes for a move. Now, as a high school World History teacher, I strive to ignite the same passion for history in my students. Showing them an old book like this one would be more than just a teaching aid-it would be a testament to the enduring power of knowledge and a personal dream come full circle. Winning this book would allow me to share a tangible piece of history with my students, helping them fall in love with the rich tapestry of our past just as I did.

This is amazing. Not sure when and if I'll be able to afford any of the books in the store, though. That Ars Notoria purchase from your library list was a hard enough monetary pill to swallow. Some day...

You might not do social media, but I do. Just posted this link on a friend's wall, with the simple caption, `Kid, meet candy store.'

Oh sнιτ, I'm sorry. This video hasn't gone public yet, has it? Uh... It was a small leak, only visible to friends of said friend, *not* the general public.

Would love to have a book that would- frankly- be the first and only book in what i hope will become a beautiful collection of esoteric knowledge!

ESOTERICA! I'm a massive fan. I dont have social media and I dont think I have ever submitted my name for any sort of giveaway.. until today. This book looks incredible. I'm a poor college student, but I spend any money I come into on books. Many of them in the category of the occult so I am sure I will be helping your new business for years to come!! The reasons I want to win this book are too many to name. It would undoubtedly be in good hands though, I can promise that! Congratulations on the launch!!!

Looks like a wonderful volume that would be a welcome addition to any collection… or start to a collection, as it would be in my case.

Just signed up for IG for this but not sure if my post there worked, i dont see it. So also posting here. Only found your channel a few months ago but have had a great time. My best friend( he has a history degree and is a published authour, i am merely a dilettante) and I often spend weekends traveling the south coast of NSW going to various charity shops and other Op Shops (not sure thats just Aussie slang) looking for old books. My treasured possesion that i found is all volumes, first edition of Churchill's: The World in Crisis 1911-1918. (Only cost me $60, which is great as I can't afford actual book store prices for these things) This book is almost 3 times its age, and as much as I'd love to have it on my bookshelf, I really want it as a surprise to my friend who would be over the moon (not to mention he has the resources to look after and preserve it a bit better than i do). I've had a bit of a year, and he's been there for me the whole time. Anyway, I really enjoy your channel, keep it up, man. Your ability to synthesise your dedication to faith and dedication to good history is staggering to me. You found a way to square that circle that i often feel is impossible. keep up the good work.

Dr. Sledge, as a 53 year old ‘rags to lil nicer rags’ Native American lady… I would love to acquire such treasure as that book of yours. The oldest book in my ‘collection’ (and I use ‘collection’ loosely) is a huge 1970 kjv Bible that I bought at a garage sale. Which, if I had to downsize all my junk… that 1970 huge bible would not be tossed out. I truly don’t deserve to be entered in your giveaway, considering I wouldn’t take time to translate all of it (only the most eye catching parts). Anyway, I like old stuff - that’s probably why I like watching your videos. I especially enjoyed the time you opened the old bottle of liquor. 🌸Oh to be such cultivated🌸 …but if I was to win anything… 👉 I’d want to win those little medal hands that keep your old books open 🫱📖🫲

I absolutely love your channel it has helped me greatly in my religious and a cult studies. I do not have an Instagram and so am commenting here for a shot at that book. I can promise you it would be cared for and respected as it should in my humble library. Thank you for the opportunity to obtain such a beautiful piece. And I will most definitely check out your book shop.

It's worth checking out The book Tree in San Diegoo. They sell original reprints of certain historical works. 18th and 19th century at least .

I would like to own the book as it is almost a living participant of history, touched by so many hands, and imparting its touch on everyone who have touched it before.

I don't have Instagram or other social media (if you don't count this KZread account), although I can see why You would have it, with having to promote Your channel, Esoterica. For me, books was my very first love (due to a not very fun childhood, it was truely wonderful, when I grasped that I could find friendship and company in books), and they have been with me since I started to read, some 45+ years ago. Even though I today find myself, having to seek information and knowledge both online, and in the reading app in my tablet, it's still as exciting and sometimes even breathtaking, to look in old books, that have survived the march of time. (I'll never forget the first time I saw "The Devils Bible" in Stockholm...). To have this 300 old year book on my shelf and in my hand, wouldn't be something I would use to 'show off' to people; I'd treasure it for both its inner work, and the craftmanship that it took to print and create it.
