One of the first gospel songs I remember as a child I'm now 68..RIP WILMA LEE;STONEY..&CAROLE LEE
Love to hear Wilma Lee and Stoney sing. Love to hear you too Carol Lee Cooper.
She was one of the best old country singers from West Virginia
There are many renditions of this song. Wilma's is one of the best. Of course we can't forget Molly ODays version.
This was a wonderful singer..another great singer I was raised listening to
MY DEAR DECEASED MOTHER SANG AND TAUGHT ME THIS SONG AND OTHERS BY WILMA LEE AND STONY COOPER ABOUT 65 YEARS AGO. THEY ARE AMONG MY FAVORITES AND WILL ALWAYS CHERISH THE MEMORIES.
I was a fledging country singer and I had a wonderful opportunity to see and hear Stoney Cooper and Wilma Lee several times and all I can say is they were true country soul. Rip Stoney and Wilma
This song was played and sang in our home as a child. It touches my heart and makes me aware that the street people that are homeless they at one time were some mothers child, young and different then what we see. My prayer today is for all the homeless and helpless regardless of how they got there.

Love that voice....
Thank you for posting this.
Very old, but something about the tune that grabs you.
beautiful thanks
My grandpa many years ago had a 78 record of this " Tramp On The Street" by Maddiox Brothers and Rose, loved it and like to find a copy of if, but did find the song on KZread
I recall Molly)'O and she was very pretty a good singer.
So was I, when I was a little girl over 50 years ago our dad[we were 7 girls] bought us a stereo, that's what they were called in those days and this is one of the songs he bought for us to listen to.........thank you dad
Wilma sang with a lot of heart, it's really nice. I Love "The Carter Sisters with Mother Maybelle singing lead and Helen and Anita on the chorus, the harmonies are great on their version of "Tramp on the Street"
Driving across Eastern Oklahoma in my 1948 Studebaker the Tulsa station fading in and out, and the dust in my nose. God I loved that America.

"Ladies and gentlemen how about a nice round of applause for WILMA LEEEEEE AND STONEY COOPERRRRR!"( as I heard it announced on the Opry 50 years ago.
i had a blessed chance to see them in the klein memoral in bpt ct they were better live and in person i was only 12 never will forget it thanks mom and dad so may they all res in peace.
Wilma had a style, and sound of her own. Sorry I never had the chance to see her, and Stoney in person.
I think you're correct about Molly O'Day. All three versions are excellent. My sister's favorite was Molly--it's the first version we heard as children.
Released first in 1948 on a 78 RPM record and again in 1960 on her first LP album, "Sacred Songs".
I saw them in person with the Hank Snow show at the McIntyre arena in Timmins,ON. Canada in the early sixties.Cowboy Copas was there also with Stoney her husband and their daughter. Miss those days.
All great versions irish Big Tom McBride does a wonderful version. Thanks for posts i get to hear and see wonderful musicians .Thanks for posts
This song has been covered by many artists among them Maddox Brothers and Rose, Ramblin' Jack Elliott, Joan Baez just to name a few. I love all the versions as each artist adds her his own personal touch. Just a great tune!
Ay-yuh, that voice is from up the hollar.

Great song
Carl Story and his Rambling Mountaineers had a great version of this recorded December 1960. The Rambling Mountaineers were Bud and Willie Brewster and Claude Boone.

This is a godd version, but the album I have of this song by Wilma Lee, features more Steel Guitar, which really enhances the song. For another great version, check out the Maddox Brothers & Rose, exceptional.

Bobbie Wilson.. Carol Lee is a great backup singer.. But I must admit her mom does a super job on "Tramp"...
That's an accent and a half to a UK ear. Played it twice as it grows on you....thanks for something different. Which state is WV? West Virginny (as my friend calls it)?
I think Hank Williams recorded this also.
