Willys CJ3B Welder Jeep.... Miller Blue Or Lincoln Red...Help Me Decide
Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
In this video I have taken advantage of a fantastic, warm day to do some sandblasting on the CJ3B welder Jeep axles that I am going to use.
I cleaned up a Dana 70 rear axle and a Dana 44 front axle out of an FC150. The dana 44 will need to be narrowed for the CJ3B but that isn't too much trouble and will give me a large selection of gear ratios. Since I am putting a Cummins 4BT engine in this Jeep I am leaning towards a 3.73:1 gear ratio.
Next large question is will this be a Miller Blue Jeep or a Lincoln Red Jeep.
I am not getting anywhere talking with Miller so I may switch to a Lincoln SA200 Welder for this project. Let me know your thoughts in the comments.

Great to see you back at the welder Jeep. I have watched that build from the start. Red or blue it will still look great when you paint it. Every thing you touch turns to gold. Every thing that you work on turns out great.
Looking forward to seeing the axles come together!
Red is my vote. My CJ2A is painted Farmall tractor red, I like Red. It matches all of the old Farmalls in my barn.
Well the snowblower jeep is red! I’d say go for Miller blue! 100% want to see that Dana 44 cut down! 👍🏻👍🏻🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸

My thoughts exactly but I guess I will have to wait until I get the welder before I decide on the brand build and color
Hey brian personally I go gray. 👍 Good to see you working on different stuff 👍👍👍
Good to see you working on the welder keep; would love to see any work you do on that project. Thanks for the update

Trying to steal time for this jeep when I can. Getting axles ready for when the frame is finished.
I am biased I suppose, my 3b is blue. Love the welder jeep! I'd like to see the 44 narrowed as well. Thanks Brian.

I like Miller blue as well, but the company has been so hard to deal with I might have to change to a lincoln unit.
Definitely want to see the 44 shortened (sitting on a pair), Lincoln Red and Sparky is the name

Me too, just depends on what I can find for a welder to convert to a pto driven unit.
You always have cool stuff in your shop. I really love those old 6 lug rims, wish companies would've kept them longer before going to the 8 lug pattern. Hope you are able to find the Dana 30 you are looking for.

I like these old Budd wheels as well, they are a real pain to sandblast and paint but they look great when finished. Still hoping to find some 30's but things are getting scarce in my area these days.
I would paint it Miller blue, i like that shade. I just paid 2500 for a 1954 m1381a that was painted a dark wine color on the outside, and it's not pretty. The good thing, is that an older guy bought it many year's ago from the government, and never drove it on the road, just on his summer property in northern Michigan. I was also happy he left all the 24 volt stuff stock on the f134 hurricane engine, and didn't cut the wiring up. I need to put a couple tiny patches in, but it's pretty rust free for a northern vehicle. I had traded some stuff for a 53 cj5, and then this 54 came up on marketplace two hour's from me, and needs a lot less love. Sorry to go on about my find, but most of my family are gone, and i have wanted one of these for many year's, and could never find one close enough to me that wasn't junk. I think any color you choose will look good, but i can picture it blue. G-d bless.

Great find, always nice to find them with the 24 volt equipment still intact. Keep me posted of the progress

Sure will, especially since you know so much about these old rigs, and your video's have given me thing's to help me out, and i appreciate it. Your advice saved me from even looking at those omix ada parts, and other parts to stay away from. I have picked up some thing's that will help me with the build. G-d bless.
Thanks Brian, I dont have a Lincoln welder i have a Miller. However red is my favorite color so----

I like red, but was always planning on a Miller Jeep. They are so hard to deal with for information and help that I think I am just going to change things up and go with a lincoln setup. Just need to be sure I can find a good SA 200 or larger to install in the jeep.
Hello Brian paint them the color of what ever welder you will be using. I would like to see the modification of the dana 44.
Great to see you back mate,,regards Frank 😊

Lots of people agree on Red
Hi Brian, I've got a 65 CJ5 with a F head. I bought the Jeep a little over a month ago with a stuck engine. I've been soaking it going on week 6. Still stick. I'm located in Windham,CT. How would I get ahold of you to discuss a possible rebuild? Thanks
if you need a welder buy a machine and start welding, this sounds like a beg for a sponsor. machine brand shouldnt even be a consideration, find something that has features you need and use it. the most important part of a welder is the monkey holding the end.

I have been welding for over 30 years and was doing a Miller build because I always used their machines. They don't want to deal with me or give me any information so I am leaning towards going the Lincoln SA welder route.
