My pa was die spoorweg hostel bestuurder van Towsrivier ongeverr 1977.
Dankie Mnr Marais - ek het die storie baie geniet. My Ouma en Oupa het in Touwsriver gewoon (Steenvliet) en mammie en haar broers en susters het daar groot geword.

Does the line from JHB/CPT run past Touws Rivier? I've been there twice then. Once on my way from JHB to klaar in at Youngsfield and then for bush basics a couple of months later. That place made a man out of me. Lovely place called Tietkop. Lovely stories Mr. Marais!

We live in a very very old place, 🇬🇧 ... an old Midlands town on what is the Great Central Railway, a major through rail network between North Sheffield & South London ... as you know, worldwide, thanks to spiralling costs, mismanagement & road traffic lobbyists, rail logistics declined. South Africa & Towes River aren't infallible .. the GOOD news is, rail is coming back! Despite lockdown, people (including youngsters) are travelling and marveling over the majesty of rail travel again. Trans Karoo (shoshaloza), Blue Train, Rovos Rail in ZA 🇿🇦 and other groups similar to the US (Big Boy Preservation Group) and UK & Oceania (Oz & NZ), they're all very busy with preservation societies refurbishing & restoring old lines, stations, trains, locos, etc. The Great Central Railway, established. 1894, where I live, is an amazing piece of history. GCR is also today used in a commercial capacity, for tourism, dining, weddings and the film industry - that's a big one! It is also the longest double rail preserved line in the UK. Great Central Railway... People run apprenticeship & training courses, from fireman to driver, conductor, fitter, turner, to dining and waitor services, even signaller & linesman... it's all there, legit, including wheel tappers! In ZA, the time is coming for restoration of the old ways.. the Red Devil 25NC is already a fine working example! Vasbyt Touws Rivier, your time to shine is coming! More importantly, with the advent of ever stricter emissions targets in Europe and rest of world, governments are throwing themselves behind rail network development and investment. Electrification is a major driver toward commercial zero carbon footprint. We're finally seeing the greenlight for electrification on major trunk routes where previous diesel has reigned for over 60 years! Diesel is going bye-bye and electricity and hydrogen fuel cells are coming. Of course, you may think that STEAM is a gone, but not so. It is coming back, but in a legacy & historic capacity. People want STEAM, and its here to stay!

Kan ek die mn vergeet. Saam gewerk as drywers.
Goeie besigheids idees, hoop alles werk uit vir jou.
Biskruit, ons ook gemaak en die helfte van een brug opgeplaas op Ermelo.En sommer ook die Polisie waker gemaak weg gehol dat die stof so staan.

My oorle Pa het Koringberg se grot so laat intuimel. Tydens Hitler se oorlog het sy verbeelding hom aangehelp met vuurpyl bou.
Wat het van al die stoom lokomotiewe geword wat op 'n stadium op Touwsrivier gestaan het ?

Diesel het dit doodgemaak en meeste is opgesmelt om jou kar mee te bou.

Ek het jou stories baie geniet Ek was n drywers assistent op die elektriese eenhede Het na vyf jaar bedank net toe ek Olifants Fontein moes gaan vir my drywers eksamen Gewerk tussen Kaapstad en Touws Rivier Op al die treine gewerk waarvan jy gepraat het In daardie barracks oor geslaap Ook afgelos van TR na BFWES Die tablet by tye mis gevang en partykeer agter my kop geslaan Sal daardie tye nooit vergeet nie Sterkte met jou drome Mag dit waar word !!!
