William Thatcher | Change The Stars (A Knight’s Tale)
Ойын-сауық
"A man can change his stars. And I won't spend the rest of my life as nothing."
One of my favourite films and childhood memory. I think the majority would see Heath Ledger simply as the Joker and they’d be right too! However, before I even watched The Dark Knight (amazing), I knew him before as Ulrich or William Thatcher and still love the film to this day. Everything he acted in was incredible every single time. I hope this pays tribute to one of the many great characters he portrayed.
This film is incredibly anachronistic but I and many perhaps love it for that. I think Braveheart is likely worse for historical accuracy. But this is a funny, good feeling type of movie that probably shouldn’t have worked but somehow does. Perhaps due to the amazing cast and friendships, I read that it was an absolute laugh making this film as we can see onscreen. I can actually see where Brian Helgeland was coming from in the use of modern music (as many videos on KZread described). Sacrificing historical accuracy for emotional accuracy to entertain us as the viewer more so than the period-accurate music would. But their music at the time would’ve been as big as “we will rock you” was for our generations so there is arguably a level of emotional accuracy. It’s a very unique film!

Now Ulrich Von Liechtenstein was in fact a real historical figure. Famous for being a successful jouster and poet, especially his autobiography ‘Frauenburch’, meaning “The Service of Ladies”. That is something I’d like to read one day as it is a likely exaggerated but wicked tale of his career and obsessive love life with a married noblewoman. There are some ridiculous things recorded in there haha. Link below tells of them.

I grew up poor as dirt in a trailer park. My dad is a loser and my mom lives in an alternate reality where nothing is wrong. I always believed I could change my stars. I'm the first man in my family to graduate high school, join the military, and graduate college. I changed my stars. If you want it bad enough you can, too.

As a fellow trailer park Tennant from WV that has become a knight and now a farmer. Don't punk out and take the easy way. Do the hard things because they are hard. I've been changing my stars since this movie came out.

This cast was such a gift. Paul Bethany and Heath Ledger were fairly unknown, and blew the lid off this movie.

"That's your name Will. Sir William Thatcher. Your father heard that!"
As an edit, I have to say it's beyond impressive. I've never seen anyone bring out the soul of a movie like that.
From someone who has changed his stars and is currently in the midst of it, thank you greatly.
One of my favorite actors and movie of all time we'll be forever missed
The movie has inspirational and emotional aspects, but I think the comedic humor and the 20th century music overshadow just how impactful this story can be to a viewer. I love the movie the way it is, but this video captures what the film didn't. I've come back to this video a few times, and had to comment. Incredible edit!

This movie has the rare status of being equal parts "chick-flick" and a "guy-flick" in the same movie. I''ve watched this movie many times, and as a guy, I have to admit, every time William comes home to his father, to hear him say "Has he followed his feet? Did he find his way home?", just to touch his son's face and embrace him, I'm balling like a baby.
You captured something that is rarely seen or heard, Thank you.

One of my all.time.favorites!
A well presented mini-movie, of one boys dream of becoming a Knight who eventually succeeded by disguising himself as one! Winning several thrilling tournament’s and later became known as Sir William Thatcher, therefor Changing the Stars! he was portrayed by the Charming and Versatile Heath Ledger who Sadly died before his time, it’s many years since I watched this rather up-beat movie about a ‘Knight’s Tale’ thank you Robbie for this excellent reminder!👌🤗🥰

Good morning 🌹, thought I would met you here. I hope you are well. I saw this film recently again and I'm excited every time watching it. You're absolutely right. Heath Ledger was a charming boy. A good day to you my dear.

Good morning to you, my Internet and myself crashed for a couple of days! Just catching up, I loved Heath Ledger movies, I may go back and look through them again now that Robbie has reminded me! after we did the ‘Culloden’ tour I did one round Edinburgh, it was just like going back through the stones, also I did a walking tour and had no idea what part of Glasgow this Steve Marsh started, so imagine my surprise after this marathon walk, I ended up back through the stones again, at the ‘Falkirk Wheel’ which Alan and I was one of the first to go on it just after it had been constructed, it was quite scary😳 the sky’s the limit! when you have an iPad!! take care, be seeing you 🤗🥰👋

Not so bad Robbie thank you, this is one of my favourite Heath Ledger movies, it’s hard to imagine such a vibrant young man no longer here when you see him full of life on screen, 28 yrs. is such a short life, I think the role of the Joker contributed to his demise from what I could gather from the media, so sad 😞 but like you say gone but not forgotten! take care, have a nice Easter Holiday, 🤗🥰👋
Best movie!

It's also one of my favourite films. I've seen it several times, just recently. I like the funny camaraderie around the story but I'm always struggeling with the princess when she asks him to lose the fight to prove his love. I liked Heath Ledger in all of his roles, there is something rascals about him. It's so sad that he died so young. Thank you for your tribute to him and for all your wonderful videos that always excite me. Happy Easter Robbie. 💚

Excellent choice in a film! You’re right there, I believe the camaraderie between the characters and cast were the ultimate factor in why it’s so good. I love that aspect. I think Jocelyn gets a bad rep to be honest. She was quite reasonable to not trust Adhemar and even Will to some extent. As for the plot line about “proving your love”, that was great reference by the director to the mythical courtly love of Lancelot and Guinevere. She says the same to Lancelot as Jocelyn does to Ulrich. Even thought the film is nowhere near historically accurate, the writing is very clever and well researched for these referenced plot lines I think. Thank you for the nice comment, Heath’s talent was very visible. Thank you for enjoying my videos and I hope you have a nice Easter too :)
Fuck me I’ve watched this movie a million times but this edit gets the essence of the entire movie in 5 minutes and made me cry. Well done sir.

This was an amazing movie.
watch it when I was younger without being able to understand most of the dialogue, forget most of the scene, but definitely remember A Knight's Tale
This is awesome 🤩
Beautiful!
Amazing video. I felt like I watched the whole movie again.
Thank you for this.
OH MY GOD Am I dreaming Is this real? Did you…..has one of…… Has one of my FAVORITE editors made a tribute to one of my ALL TIME FAVORITE CHILDHOOD FILMS! The film that introduced me to Paul Bettany Heath Ledger And James Purefoy The film that made me fall in love with Knights and Sword and Sandal films The film that introduced me to its Genre and yet was so ironically NOT a standard version of that Genre! I remember staying up and watching this film with my dad on late nights screaming with Bettany when he shouted “LICHTENSTEIN!” Standing and cheering and roaring like a maniac as if I was there in the stands! Many know Heath as the legendary Joker and I agree That is some of his best acting But I knew him first and foremost most as sir Ulrich- NAY As Sir William Thatcher The man that changed the stars……… This movie is a classic today and is not just that but a Cult classic as well and it will forever be one of my favorite films ever and I do totally agree with you on the sense of historical accuracy aside from a filming perspective emotion is the only thing that matters during a scene and the best way to show and interpret that to the audience is music even if the music is completely out of it’s time it doesn’t matter what matters is What did the audience feel? Thank you for this it was a much needed wave of happy and joy filled nostalgia and is yet another stellar edit!
